Look what I got today!

I have been very excited to get Powermaster Optimus Prime as he was one of my favorites as a child. Now having him I can say he was worth the wait as he is an awesome figure.


Bot mode is fantastic, with good stability and amazing articulation. Just hope you don't want him to stand up straight. Due to the thickness of his lower legs this is as close as you can pull off.

They added some tabs under his hands, this allows his rifles to be held much stably in comparison to Ultra Magnus.

Truck mode is great, better in my opinion to Ultra Magnus. If you're familiar with how UM transformed then you won't have any trouble figuring out OP.



Prime's helmet creates a nice little seat for Apex. Yes, Apex, not Hi-Q as I think some were hoping.


Truck mode is as hollow as they come, that's for sure.

Finally there is Apex, tiniest little guy you will ever find. His head mode is spot on for what I imagine Orion Pax to look like.

Overall just a great figure. So happy for him. Got so much of what I loved from the original figure/character right.

Oh right... base mode. Forgot all about that as it is literally a forgettable mode. Here are a few pics I took. The instructions refer to this, merged with Fort Max and Blaster's base mode, as Cybertron City, but the instructions are very unclear about how they physically connect.

 

He looks really cool!

Also, is there by any chance you'd share where you got him from?

 

I think I heard Dorkside Toys got him in stock a day or two ago.

Regardless, I need this. SO BADLY. Please get TR Wave 1 in stock soon, BBTS.

The tabs for the guns alone have me interested. Would it be possible to snap a close up of the helmetted head?

I actually didn't notice when I first saw this guy that he's just a retool of Combiner Wars Ultra Magnus... also does anyone else think it's weird that Ultra Magnus came first this time instead of the other way around like it normally is?

Anyway... It looks like a good update for the character. They turned what was essentially a cool looking brick into something with much better articulation. However they really should of made a new mold instead of just reusing Ultra Magnus. Even though he has more articulation that the original figure I think he actually LOST some play value. This toy only has ONE robot mode configuration where as the original had three.

The first being a more G1 looking Optimus Prime robot with just the cab. Though maybe if they retooled the Minimus Amibus figure that came with Ultra Magnus we could of gotten something that resembles this. Except then we probably wouldn't have Hi-Q. If Hi-Q can turn into a robot head instead of an engine block I don't see why Optimus Prime can't turn into a car instead his truck cab. As long as the robot mode still resembled him without his armor, I'd be fine with it. Plus we'd still get a truck, in the form of his power master armor.

The second being what was really the first super mode using the trailer which is what we have represented here.

And the third being his combined form with Apex Bomber though if they release that as a separate figure later we might still get get that one.

 

Do you have an MP Star Saber you could compare him with?

 

Can you keep the little guy in head mode when you transform Optimus?


edit: In other words, will the head store fine if not removed for alt mode.

Just like most of the rest of TR, I want to like this, but I don't.

 

Can you take a pic with the chest armor popped off? If it's like Magnus it shouldn't be pinned in.
