So May Mayhem Groove is out now with no important differences between Hasbro's and Takara's figures.

Hasbro does not appear to have cut any paint apps or anything to lower the budget, as the figure is virtually identical to his Takara counterpart.

Groove has an excellent bike mode and robot mode, but obviously the main appeal is how he finishes off Defensor with a more appropriate looking right leg.

QC on mine is fine with limbs all being reasonably tight, but smooth and the only problem I had was some sloppy "bonus paint.

not bad..I may get one..but Scale is a bigger issue to me, as opposed to being a G1 purist. If I get groove..It probably wont ever be displayed on a combiner.
I actually prefer the smaller groove to make the chest armor. I like that.
Decent looking figure for sure though.

The 15% extra effort that Takara initially put into this guy over the CW figures really shows.

Glad he wasn't watered down for the Hasbro release.

considering that the Hasbro and Takara one are practically identical...

I'm glad I waited to get Groove(And UW Defensor as well). Defensor is simply incomplete without him as a limb.

As a figure, he's based off of the Aerialbots, which are hands down my favorite limb molds. I said it before but in general, I have an issue with the limbs. They tend to be a bit too chunky as legs or arms, and while it's okay on some combiners(Defensor), it's pretty ugly on others(Superion and Menasor). The Aerialbots for me sit in a happy medium. They aren't super slim, but they aren't super chunky either. That's the big reason that Groove fits the bill for me other than the fact that he's an OG team member. He's based off the mold and transformation scheme I already favor from this toy line.

The paint apps on him are simple, but gorgeous. He absolutely fits the bill of a modern police bike and doesn't look too off, colorwise, than the police bikes I see in my city.

In the end, for me, Rook doesn't even compare. I honestly don't like him as a limb, and he has the added disadvantage of not being an original G1 team member. I'm very glad Hasbro brought this guy out. Groove is an absolutely amazing figure. Hell, once he comes out at BBTS I'll snag up another one just so I can play with it separate from Defensor. The figure is just too awesome not to do that.

He looks like a fine standalone figure, but he really doesn't seem like he fits in with Defensor.

It makes sense when you look at the ovearching theme of the G1 set.

2 pursuit vehicles. 1 air rescue helicopter. 2 emergency responders. It's the kind of stuff you'd see at a site of an emergency or what not. Police arrive to bring order to the chaos, and the responders arrive to provide aid. The helicopter is there to ferry critical patients to the hospital where time is of the essence and when roads are simply too slow for it.

That's how I've always interpreted it growing up.

I like the gold paint on little Groove's face and chest better than the mustardy colors on this guy...

Excuse my ignorance, but is this guy going to be regular retail in the US, or some kind of exclusive (a la Wildrider and Slingshot)?

It seems people are saying that it's May 15th or 17th. Last year the two previous releases were released on the 22nd so it seems around that date must be the target release.

I can't wait either. Groove is definitely a figure I want two of.

Something about him seems ever so slightly 'off' compared to the CW molds. I think, bizarrely, it's the clear plastic. Makes Groove appear more 'high-end' compared to the others, the whole illusion of being made of more materials than just plain plastic.

According to my email, I ordered last year's exclusives from Amazon on May 14; they had an estimated delivery date of May 22 (I think their official release date); and they shipped on May 15.

Hopefully when he's release to retail we won't pay out of our asses from scalpers. That's what I'm cautious about.

Funny thing you mentioned that, according to "Protectobot Groove's" packaging, he is part of Sky Reign.

CW deluxe Groove is sold out on Robotkingdom, unless you want to go the eBay route and spend upwards of $80. Or wait another week or so, and buy from other online retailers.
