Quick impressions: My only prior experience with Aligned Continuity Grimlock is the RID 2k15 Cyberverse Legion mold, which is already excellent for its size. This new version adds ball-jointed elbows, swivel knees, a swivel neck, and a ratcheting jaw for his beast mode. The armor is fun, especially the way it works with the beast mode adds a whole other level of fun beyond the other Autobots in this size class. Also, this is a great figure to get in multiples. Since his combined weapon isn't unwieldy, you can double or triple up armor and the combined weapon on a single figure, and the results look great! 4 out of 5 on his own 6 out of 5 if you get multiples
His transformation is very similar to the Warrior class toy, just very slightly simplified for the smaller size. The ball joints actually give him really good articulation. Unlike the other two of these I have (Optimus and Sideswipe), Grimlock can use all his armor parts in alt mode, and looks both hilarious and awesome while doing so. This is by far my favorite of all of this size class. Oh, I guess the minicon is pretty cool, too (although his name is so generic I though it must surely be a typo that got missed all through production and QA).
Oh no, that actually looks really cool in the most ridiculous possible way with three sets of armor. Urgh.
If you get four sets, (or assemble the 3rd set into another head) you can flip his beast mode head over his robot head, for a triple dino head. RAWR!!!
Finally found this at retail. Honestly, it completely trumps the deluxe. This little figure is pretty darn awesome, and is one of very few NuRiD figures I feel are worth the bother.
Here's some I took, been meaning to post but been pretty busy. I hope they show up I've been having issues getting Dropbox photos to load properly.
What is with his hands? It's like they tried to split the difference between a complete hole and an open hand and just made a weird bastard of the two.
I really like that the armour gives him the kibble and helmet of AOE Grimlock. It's a clever design choice.
