This post inspired me to keep my Scattershot which I inevitably got along with Onslaught (note: I have no attachments whatsoever to the Technobots). The best part about it is you can snap the cannon back onto the front of the plane and it'll mostly hold (although thanks to the weight distribution it will also drop quite readily).

As an addendum to using a straw as a post wrapping the straw with tape can help add friction to the makeshift post so the rubber band isn't entirely necessary. I had to cut a plastic straw to get it to fit in the hole to begin with and then I held one end in the port while wrapping tape around the other end. It works great until you get a more permanent post in place.

If this thing actually had brown and not dark red and a toy or cartoon accurate Computron head, and his gun was brown, this guy would have been a slam dunk...

The wings feel very thin and bend way too easy...

The post on the back of Scattershot's gun fits into the front of the jet mode gun barrel!

Well that's not quite true; the piece that fits in there is the "shield" portion which you attach the rifle to.

Yes, good point, I didn't phrase that well. sorry. I never take the gun apart: it was one item on the original Silverbolt, I don't see a reason to separate it now.

    Pictures (not great)

I custom painted this guy. Yep, all he needed was a little color contrast beyond the stock red and magenta. Remarkable.

I disassembled him, cleaned him up with soap and alcohol and used Tamiya Red Brown/NATO Brown acrylic paint. Easy, but time consuming to make sure each coat dried properly.

That paint job is AWESOME. I wish I could do that, but I don't have space or resources to do customs like that.

I'm liking Scattorshot and even Betatron much more than I though I would. He's a decent spare torso to mix and match my Autobots with. I never had any special attachment to the Technobots, as they came out after I stopped collecting TFs back in the 80s in earnest. Still, I really hope Hasbro releases a deluxe wave or Technobot repaints/remolds either as the very last wave of CW, or during Titan Wars.

Prowl didn't wanna combine with Scattershot since Scattorshot dominates the gestalt mind, according to the bio on the box, instead of merely being one part of it. Prowl's a control freak like that. :)

Betatron: I'm not combining with you, table-flipper! Go away!
Prowl: I'll remember this when your boards come up for your promotion, SCATTERSHOT.
Betatron: Go frag yourself, ya tin-plated buckethead!

    More details later.

I'm now satisfied that I've got a reason for Scattershot's existence: he's meant to be Scattershot.

As planned the colours on CW Scattershot reasonably match those on Technobot Scattershot

    Compare

    Scattershot (1987) - Autobot Technobot Leader - www.tfu.info

    with

    Scattershot - Transformers Toys - TFW2005

    [IMG][IMG]

(The picture has been somewhat muddied by the colours on the production version being nowhere close to what was planned)

    [IMG][IMG]

However when Scattershot turns into torso mode it all goes wrong! His lower arms end up as the combined robot's lower legs and these aren't the right colour for Computron

    Computron (1987) - Autobot Super Warrior - www.tfu.info

    http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/trans...6-combiner-wars-gen-scattershot-betatron.html

    [IMG][IMG]

Which brings us on to the Computron boxset:

The Scattershot there has the right colour upper legs to form Computron's torso.

    Computron (1987) - Autobot Super Warrior - www.tfu.info

Full Look at Combiner Wars Computron! - Transformer World 2005 - TFW2005.COM

    [IMG][IMG]

This translates to the wrong colour lower arms for Boxset Scattershot (yet to be seen in robot mode) !

    [IMG][IMG]

    So:

If you want a Scattershot that's coloured like the original Scattershot, the closest you'll get is the Voyager but the combiner torso will be rubbish.

If you want a Scatershot that will form a torso closer to the original Computron, but isn't that close to how Scattershot is coloured, buy the boxset.

The only way to get both is to colour the forearms red and then paint the undersides white and I'm not sure how well that will work!

Just noticed that the lower abdomen on my CW Scattershot (where the Combiner head folds out) has the same cracking issue which is common with the Silverbolt mold.

It's strange because I haven't owned him for very long. He's never been transformed either.

I actually like Scattershot a lot more than I thought that I would. I guess he's grown on me. I'm in no hurry to get Sky Lynx.

Maybe it's the fact that he's a repaint / remold, of what, IMHO, is the best CW torso (Silverbolt). Maybe it's because he gives me a place to put my Alpha Bravo.

I just don't think Scattershot/ Betatron gets enough love. He's a temporary "ad-hoc" combiner until I get Sky Lynx and the Technobot boxed set, but I'll enjoy him for the time being.

I've just ordered him from kapowtoys.co.uk for £10. I wouldn't have gotten him normally but for £10 I can't say no despite having pre-ordered Takara's Technobots.
