Everyone was thrilled when they saw Brawl would be a new mold! People were excited, giddy, overjoyed...

...and then we found out about the waist.

    Oi.

    Robot

The arms are great, feeling thick yet short, perfect for Brawl. The headsculpt is great. The legs are great. The, er... feet are...

Okay, let's talk the waist. The waist, as is, sucks. It looks mistransformed or that there was a production error. It feels like it is missing a final step to truly get it to lock properly. As it is now, it just sits there, waiting for you to grab him and turn him into an accordion.

But don't worry... I figured out how to fix him. Keep reading.

    Vehicle

While he looks great and tabs nice and tight (at times too tight... where I had to work the tabs to get them to slot in correctly the first time) Brawl suffers from a problem all Brawls suffer... he feels small. When Swindle, who should be the smallest of the group, is bigger in vehicle mode than you, that isn't good. There is no good solution, as you can't make brawl much bigger, but it is weird.

That said, it is a great mode, though the color is much more muted than the pure green we see on the package, leading me to believe the pic is of the G2 repaint that is coming.

    Weapon

Same as Swindle, his weapon in integrated and looks and feels great. Not much else to say.

    Final Result

A great new mold with one big flaw in the waist. But don't worry... here is how you fix that in two steps!

    Suggestions to Improve Your Figure

The new transformation! Part of this is based on another reviewers 'Use the Combiner Peg to hide the waist' idea. Click the peg out a few clicks so it is at an angle. This locks the waist forward. Now, look at the back. Normally the turret locks into the back via two pegs. Don't do that. Instead, press the bottom down. You see that peg that is normally used to attach his foot-hand-gun to him in vehicle mode? That can slot into a cut on his waist for the waist swivel, locking his waist from the back. You lose the waist swivel in robot mode but now Brawl's waist is more or less secure.

Thanks for the tip on fixing the waist and all. It does help him look more stable. Will have to do that once I get him.

You lose the waist swivel but it just feels natural The hinge on mine, at least, for the peg is really stiff so it holds well.

So basically this mold is bad? Will Hasbro do a fix for it down the line?

A turret that does not swivel and a poorly engineered torso? Ugh. And I looked forward for this guy.

The waist is kind of a disappointment, but at the same time, he's gonna be spending 75% of his time as a leg. Much like the lack of elbows on Scrapper and Long Haul, I'm sure I'll get over this pretty quickly

Same here.. Well said. I give passes to alot of CW figures just because they are kinda quad changers. Yep, it looks who got, bad design.. Whatever..
    Combaticons.
    I'll buy all these.

Brawl still LOOKS great in both mode as a display guy.. Prolly a shitty toy though

Having in hand and doing the transformation as I described (The Chaos Method... Trademark) really makes him look and feel better. Hell, looking him over... it feels like he was SUPPOSE to be transformed that way. The angle of the true waist to the combiner port is the same, so they fit completely snug against each other, the cut in the hip... it just feels utterly right.

Wait, what's this about a waist issue? When did that come to light?

The waist issue (which you can't see in my photos) is that his waist is basically two pieces of plastic on a few hinges... that don't tab together. So he has a floppy waist that looks really small and mistransformed. By, strangely enough, mistransforming him using the Chaos Method (Patent Pending), you get a much sturdier waist and fill it in.

I hate to break it to you but even with the waist fixed by Hasbro he would look like that. The offical transformation as him with a huge chest, mini waist, and not much else

Interesting about the waist, considering it sounds very similar to the waist issue on the Breacher mold, which was also repainted into Brawl.

Coming from the basement of The Kup is none other than Brawl!

He was a Christmas present but since I have like 16 things I decided to break him out of the box.

Brawl is a nice update from his g1 toy but there's that one problem that everyone is talking about: The waist. Yes it is kind of thin but it's not really noticeable in person. Also everyone is saying that his waist flops around like crap but on mine it tabs in nicely so those people shaking poor Brawl must of been using all of their force. Tank mode is very nice and it tabs in nicely. The foot/hand can plug on to the top to represent how he kind of was like in the show.

    Rate: 8 out 10

Ok enough talk here's the pics:

Mine tabs okay but the problem is if you push forward on him he will detransform/detab. I find the alternate transformation makes him much sturdier and adds bulk to the stomach.

The figure isn't broken or in need of a fix, the figure just has a bit of a silly torso/groin area.

    Exactly

Mine tabs in pretty tight too, but I've noticed if you push on it hard the tab will come apart.
I'm not as much of a fan of the alt transformation, but I have to admit that it looks pretty good.

Yeah, I wish you didn't have to do that but it works well. At least it finds a use for the port.

On another note, I decided the combaticons all needed more weapons and did some more switching aorund. Discovered first off that Brawl looks great with one of Movie Topspin's mini guns... it looks like was meant to go with him.

Second, I discovered that the barrel of his main gun, while in vehicle mode, can move up and down. it has two small bumps, one on each side, that can lock in so that you can move it up and down without dettaching the whole set-up
