Got mine yesterday, I'm honestly super impressed. Wished we could get the rest of the seekers from this mold...slight hip feet and chest remold. That said everything else looks soooo good I can't even subtract a star for the feet this time. There is some real complexity with this Transformer.... And it is odd that with all the spinning and double hinging that aa better solution wasn't found for the feet, but...this is still my favorite mold in years, and these colors are spectacular!
Two minor nitpicks with this mold, though. Can't understand why her head is made in clear plastic. Eyes are painted in opaque paint anyway, could be as well molded in black. Unless this is cost cutting and her head is made from the same mold with clear parts for Nightbird's and Blackarachnia's heads. It may be. Not a great fan of how her null rays are attached to forearms. Would be better if she was using standard posts.
Yes, the translucent head cast is a cost-cutting decision. They wanted the translucent chest cockpit, so to cut down on the amount of new parts/molds needed, all the new parts are cast in the same translucent teal plastic. I'd hazard a guess and say that the arm guns are translucent plastic under that silver paint, as well. And the arm guns attach the way they do because otherwise they'd have to remold the forearms as well.
Yes, they're made of the same clear plastic as her head, and Nightbird's head. And I'm almost sure that Blackarachnia's head as well. Probably all white clear plastic parts on all three fembots are coming from the same sprue. So, cost-cutting.
that explains why I find the plastic on the greys to be similar color and the paints on two of them to be the same shade
The rest of the parts aren't gang-molded, so that's not the reason why the grey plastics would be the same. And paint colour certainly isn't bound by those restrictions either. In those cases, it's just a coincidental aesthetic decision.
I just received this toy in alongside Nightbird. While I'm not as fond of Slipstream's toy as Nightbird, it is by no means a slight to this Animated homage. Slipstream's paint job alone make her worth the price of admission, and makes me regret passing on Legends Windblade for the Hasbro version. All the joints are much tighter than on my Windblade, and makes posing a bit easier. The heels are still annoying however. The head sculpt is not nearly as bad as I feared initially, and actually looks pretty good. The smirk still does not fit the character, however but is a sharp sculpt and not "derpy" at all. I recommend her, but I hope someday she gets a figure without the faux kibble.
I really love the Windblade figure, so there was no doubt in my mind that I would enjoy Slipstream just the same. The colors mesh really together, they really make this figure pop. The only thing I'm disappointed with is for some reason it appears the left turbine on mine doesn't look like it has a complete mold, one of the blades on the turbine is shorter than the rest. And no, it's not broken.
I wish she had came with Windblade's sword. I know she doesn't use one in Animated, but it covers the gap in the altmode enough that it doesn't bother me. Combiner Hunters Windblade is my Windblade right now, so I'll have to grab Thrilling 30 Windblade's sword to give to Slipstream next time I'm home. The smile is weird and I was wondering about the back of her head. She's a LOT tighter than my floppy Hasbro Windblades (My girlfriend's Takara Windblade is great though). The nullrays and chest look fantastic. I'm torn between whether I like this one or FunPub's figure more. I think FunPub's headsculpt evokes Slipstream's personality better and like the looks of her altmode more. However, robot mode on looks more consistent with my other Generations figures, as well as more show accurate (Face excluded). Well, she's a nice looking figure, and despite which one I like more, I now have two figures of one of my favorite characters.
Slipstream is my first experience with this mold and it makes me glad I didn't get Windblade. The colors are great but the toy just feels flimsy all around. Jet mode is pretty terrible too. Also really dislike how small deluxe class molds got just before Combiner Wars. Was planning to skip her altogether but it didn't cost a cent more to the shiiping cost to add her to my HLJ shipment, so I ended up getting her. IMO, weakest of the three 'Con fembots.
Alright, this figure definitely benefits from a stand or some shapeshift backheels, I went with the stand. Added some Future Floor on some of the joints, to make them tighter. Also, added blue lipstick, put my own paint on the eyes to make them full, and painted the back of the head black, and now I like her much more. Sorry for the bad pic.
To make her look a little more different from Windblade and to make her more seeker like, I keep the purple parts on the wings straight up to mimic seeker intakes.
I've no experience with Slipstream. Never got any version of the mold. I was interested in her since she was announced and got my POL today. I'm pretty tepid on this. She's not bad, but she's not that great to me either. Perhaps it's because of all the other figures I got as well, I may warm up over time, but right now, she's not some disappointment nor do I want to get rid of her, I'm just not thrilled like I was with Nightbird or some of the others.
I too wish they had redesigned the wing panels. It would have improved the look and given her a place to store her null ray guns.
