im kinda surprised I didn't get a shout out in the video since I was the one who discovered the misassembly, but its cool that someone made a video, helps explain it better
Might as well post it here too. I'm starting to think they purposely sacrificed a slightly disjointed alt mode to get this chest to work.
I just opened my Blackarachnia to find that a huge chunk of her spider head is missing two major defects in 3 LG figures (only Nightbird is fine) - what the hell, Takara?
I don't get what this pic is trying to say. The fixed version clearly looks better, and the chest can slide up better.
I think it's that the ball joint parts fit in the abdominal area. It kind of looks intended, but I like the fix better. It makes her... perkier, and eliminates the neck gap.
Yup when it's not fixed it takes a considerable amount of force just to push the bra up. When fixed it slides up freely up & down.
I received a replacement spider head from TFSource. Since I was going to have to disassemble her to install the new head anyway, I figured I'd do the left/right side switch fix by optimusfan at the same time. I used the tiniest (5/64") flathead screwdriver I had in the house (not sure smaller ones even exist). 2 hours later, the plastic surrounding the pins is completely ruined, I managed to stab myself with the screwdriver a dozen times, I also scratched the paint on one of the spider legs, and THE GODDAMN PINS ARE STILL NOT OUT. I am sorry optimusfan, it's not your fault that my figure is as good as destroyed now, but how the blazes could you call this fix "quick and easy?" Maybe quick and easy for a radicon with 10 years of experience disassembling figures
I did the fix and my figure (twice because I forgot to turn the abdomen peg around the first time assembling it ) the whole toy came right apart with no issues. It took about 40 mins the first go around being cautious and 15 mins the second time once I knew my way around the inner workings to disassemble and get it all back together The only real scary/worring part in the whole process is getting that small spider legs off. For the spider legs, you want to start out with a small/thin flat head just to get some wiggle room between the parts and move up in size/thickness as the gap widends...the less prying you do the better, let the width of the heads do most of the work. Once you get enough play you can just grab the two parts and twist and pull to get them the rest of the way out by hand.
I painted the ball joint sockets black, but left the chest clear. What a difference! Also, I still prefer the parts-swap from an Animated figure. The gold and black just looks so much better than the Takara orange:
2 days later, I finally managed to do the swap. I didn't dare hammer on the large pins too much because the plastic around them was already pretty ruined, so the torso is now much looser than it was. She can still hold a pose and she looks better - no question about it - but the whole operation took me 4+ hours and resulted in a damaged (though to be fair, damage is not really visible), loose figure. This is not something a person with no prior experience with figure assembly (such as myself) should attempt.
I do not believe this figure is misassembled. I think the designer flipped the torso intentionally, sacrificing the neck to improve the waist. The "fix" for this figure makes the waist looks horrible and I think the designer noticed this and flipped the torso on purpose
Watch your Blackarachnia's elbows, people. Just pulled mine down from the shelf and noticed that, at some point over these past few months since her release, both of the elbow ball sockets have cracked. At least one other person on Twitter has said that the same has happened to his, so it doesn't seem to be an isolated incident either, unfortunately. I half suspect the paint on the inside of the cups is to blame. The plastic there is fairly thin and the extra tension added was probably enough to slowly break stuff down. Which would also explain why just adding shock oil (which I did) wasn't enough as that only eases up the friction, but not the tension.
oh damn, thanks for the info. I guess this will be another one of those waspinator molds where you can look but touch things. oh well.
dang that sucks, well, mine was release and only has a crack in the elbow i had to repair the arm on, so i think it's ok, besides the cracks can be fixed easily with some kragle,
