There's nothing wrong with Universe's headsculpt, just his neck articulation.

That and due to the way he was designed Ironhide is constantly looking down. The sad expression and the bus face doesn't help either.

I think this head is better mostly for looking more like a normal head, but I can see where you're coming from.

I really like this mold but I'm just not feeling it here.

Would've looked worlds better in bot mode if they painted his hands.

Any pics with some other, older classics/generations figures?

Just got this wave deluxe and i really like ironhide even if its not the best representation, i enjoy this mold better than the universe version i hate transforming that version.

Gotta admit, as much as I like this figure, as Ironhide he isn't all too outstanding. Someone said it previously, but he is much more like Ironhide's younger brother.

Being said, if you stand him next to his Universe counterpart, he immediately gains a ton of appeal.

I don't hate him. I just don't like him as Ahrnhahd.

I was on my home from work the other day, and thought CW Ironhide makes a good stand-in/classics version of PRID Ironhide IMO.

The bot mode kinda reminds me of the WFC/FOC version.

Yes, they could have done it. Replace the APC backpack shell with something more van like, new legs to remove the extra wheels, maybe new feet to be less sloped, maybe new hands, and of course the new head. And it would have worked pretty well too.

HOWEVER. Doing all that would have taken up a lot of the tooling budget. Now, I know all of us wanted new weapons (including hand/foot guns) at the least for this wave, but it is very clear they only budgeted new heads, and for whatever reason (probably Titan Wars), the next few waves aren't getting a lot of new tooling either (though more than this one). All that new tooling to turn Rook into Ironhide would have meant no new tooling for Swindle/Hound, or making Ironhide share their body. Or it would mean no new mold Brawl and instead we get a Brawl that's a retool of Rook like a lot of us were originally guessing.

We all may constantly second guess or call out Hasbro on their budget decisions and limitations (or "limitations" in some minds), but it is clear that they have a set budget and you have to accept that that means there are going to be "lazy" retools no matter how much you hate it. New tooling in one place means no new tooling somewhere else. That's just how it goes.

I'll stick with my Universe Ironhide. While I'm glad that everyone gets another chance to own the character, it looks and feels nothing like Ironhide to me. Maybe his nephew, but not him.

I was pretty anti-repaints for these guys, but once I saw them in the store, I had to pick up Ironhide and Mirage (As well as Sunstreaker for my girlfriend). I was pretty bummed about Ironhide not being a fan, but I really liked the colors in and headsculpt. To me, he looks like Ironhide, not red Offroad like I first thought. Really liking the silver hand/leg/guns on these guys, and didn't realize Ironhide/Offroad (First Aid as well?) has that peg to attach it in the truck bed this way. Fills that hole for Ironhide nicely.

Articulation still isn't great for an individual bot, but I've come to terms with that. My girlfriend and I are just missing Prowl and Battle Core Optimus to form Optimus Maximus now, so I guess we'll get them when we find them. Was hoping to at least skip Prowl (Definitely not a fan of that mold as Prowl and I have THREE versions of it already).

I just picked this guy up and he's fantastic.

Need some help though! If anyone has the black cannons that came with Prime Kup, can you slap those onto this figure?

I think that would be great!

They will fit on the figure, I put them on my son's Orr-Road, but my son is in Texas now and has Off-Road with him.

How do they sit? Like, do they extend beyond the hands or do they stay pretty flush?

Given that someone posted a picture already in this thread doing just that, you can see for yourself:

Since I also do it (and posted such in this thread), if you need more pictures (or clearer) or a different angle, let me know and I'll take some pictures as well.

I love them on Ironhide, they fit great, look sharp, and fit nicely into the truck bed in alt mode.
