Sunstreaker was never my fav in bot mode. I loved the countach with a massive engine sticking out..but his bot mode never did much. Neither does this. After not getting many "G1" type releases, This one still makes me want a better Sunstreaker.
The yellow its molded in? Yea...reminds me of that cheap, milky yellow plastic from Prid Bumblebee or BH Bumblebee that I didnt like. The black paint details cant help but look like there is overspray on all these milky yellow surfaces. He has a cool metallic ab section? thats about all I can really say thats pretty to the eye in bot mode. The "Ear paint" is a bright (Wish he were painted in that..) yellow that just screams right...while the yellow plastic says WRONG. To make him look more "G1" your supposed to put on his hand/weapon like a backpack..but it makes him very back heavy...which leads me too..
This mold seems already TIRED. this thing is really loose and mushy in the legs. The crotch T bar thing is just sloppy. He not a very pretty sunstreaker. and mine is pretty floppy fresh out da box. Ill add future and itll be better..but it wont save that milky ass yellow plastic. Its seems brittle too. Not exactly what im used to with the CW plastic so far.
He is probably the 3rd best in this wave.
Car mode is decent. milky ass yellow plastic abound...Adding the backpack gives it a "back to the G1" feel, and makes it look better, and make the yellow more tolerable.

By now you know the mold and TFmation and articulation. No surprises here. The New headsculpt is really nice, and HAS painted eyes, but good luck seeing them.

Sunstreaker tries hard, and for fans they may love it. but im left with a shrug and a "coulda been a bit different and better" feeling. Still for a Sunstreaker on the shelf..its not horrid by any means. but its by far the best CW has had to offer.

Well...the silver on the hand-foot-supercharger looks nice? That's something. Otherwise, yeah, he doesn't look all that great. Breakdown wears this mold better.

 

He wears it surprisingly well considering they didn't bother to retool the chest.

Which irks me because Wheeljack's getting a chest retool and his chest looks WAY more like Sunstreaker's.

 

Sunstreaker looks great in vehicle mode but poor in robot mode. Its obvious its just his head on a unrelated character. In that regard, I think of these four as being retail Botcon toys. This is something they would have done if Hasbro hadn't done it first.

For whatever reason, these four only get new heads and no other remolding. Presumably to save their remolding budget for Wheeljack.

 

I still hate this mold, but at least the different colors on his arms make him look better than Breakdown did.

 

Chest needed a redo. Looks like he has Lightbars! would work for a Countach-Lp500S/Super Tuning Policecar Type repaint.

Also don't like the red flash round the rear wheel. Yes I can see it's homaging the miscoloured sticker on the original but the car would look better without it.

 

Bleh. Universe Sunstreaker is superior.

This one is repurposing fodder; he could easily be Laster or Pocket.

Nope...not feeling this as Sunstreaker...and...luckily I have the Universe 2.0 Sunstreaker...so...I have no need to grab this...though I suppose a repurpose as ^^ Pocket to have a nother Gobot in my collection might be cause to reconsider...or...even better I could repurpose as G2 Gobots Bumblebee...with a new head of course...

 

As much as you say the yellow looks bad it sure does photograph nicely.

 

upon looking at it closer today, I think its more the black paint in bot mode that makes it look shitty. Theres just a nasty line thats not very crisp. If the black lines were tighter Id prolly feel better about the color.look at prowl in bot mode and look at the tight black lines..then look at this and I cant help but think it looks worse. In combined mode the yellow rocks though.

You know... After looking at it closer.. I see something I didn't see last night when I was tired and taking pics in a darker room. Today I notice the yellow plastic is gorgeous. It's actually a sparkle mix that looks like a yellow metal flake.

The biggest problem for me is the black in bot mode. I had to work on the car and massage it more so it pegged together. Out of the package this one was a mess, and first impression was pretty bad. My son thinks this one is gorgeous in both modes, so I'm going to go with his opinion and say I'm way wrong on this one. Last night the plastic looked like generations bee... Which I can't stand. Today it looks totally different, and really looks nice in the light.

I think im actually going to take a few pics of these car modes out in the sunlight.

 

What a difference light makes. Sunstreaker looks very good in alt mode.

you can see where the almost translucent yellow is making the black "bleed" through on the arm in alt mode. My biggest gripe.

 

You're right, the sunlight really does make him look great!

And I guess it's mostly my lack of funds and inability to find a Universe Sunstreaker, but I think this one is more than good enough. At least for me. The head and vehicle mode are great, and being able to combine is a nice bonus. I get the feeling I'd think differently if I were older when Universe came around and were actually able to collect that line, but as for how things are now, I'm good with it. Just need these guys to actually, you know, show up in my area.

 

Wow that looks horrible. I love this wave, I'm literally so disinterested by how lazy it is I'm not picking up anything in it!

I never was a fan of Sunstreaker, so this mold is useless to me. I'll just give him to Galvatronus.

 

Ugh. That yellow plastic looks horrible. Light goes right though it.

Below average original mold. Nice new head sculpt. Horrible deco. Worst toy of the two repaint waves.

 

That bio though. I was already gonna buy him, but the bio is just too good  

 

Honestly, I really like the yellow on him. When you pointed out that it looks like the ugly yellow on a variety of Bumblebees... I can't say I disagree. But for some reason it looks a lot better to me on this guy.

The fact that light bleeds through is a shame, though.  

 

That's some thing that'll with most bright yellow plastic. The only other options are to go for a darker yellow, but that starts looking orange or green-ish in some lighting or to paint it yellow and there goes the budget.

 

I keep hoping and hoping for a Masterpiece Sunstreaker here. Please let it happen Takara.
