I can't believe that we haven't got a feedback thread about Streetwise already.

Streetwise is the only Protectobot that I ever got as a kid. He converted from a black and white police car to a robot with a non-standard head, because G1 Streetwise didn't use his head to plug into Hot Spot to form Defensor.

Combiner Wars has universalized this principal of a dedicated combiner peg, and each limb bot is better off for it. In robot mode, CW Streetwise's combiner peg is partially hidden by a black chest cover that is actually a fake car hood. It's a nice attempt at recreating G1 Streetwise's hood chest, but it doesn't quite work. Still, it looks okay. His head is a more detailed version of his G1 head, and that's probably the part of him that looks most like his G1 self. The rest of him is white and red with all-black wheels and black highlights on his shins.

He's got elbows, shoulders, knees, thigh-swivels, and hip joints -- pretty much standard points of articulation for modern-day figures. He also has a turning waist, which is needed for his transformation and if you want to use him as an arm for Defensor, but more on that later. His arms have upper-bicep rotation, which is weirdly-placed, but works. One of Streetwise's flaws is that he has no feet per se, just stumps at the end of his legs. His mold mates Dead End and Brake-neck (Wildrider) at least have attempts at feet.

However, other than the same conversion and joints, that's all Streetwise has in common with the two Stunticons besides turning into a sports coupe with the engine in the front under the hood. Most of the rest of him is a complete re-shell. The Stunticons turn into Ferraris, but Streetwise (and his future mold mates Prowl and Smokescreen) will turn into a stylized Nissan Z.

The car is a sleek police interceptor with an aerodynamic lightbar. Blue highlights on the hood and sides or the car are also revealed here, which the original toy did not have. They probably added the blue to separate him from Prowl, who is all black and white. There is also a grey section on the leading edge of the hood that looks like bumper reinforcement and fog lights. Still, the car looks nice and distinctive. It rolls decently but is very low to the ground. Sadly, Streetwise's wheels are the snap-on latches that we all hate instead of metal pins.

The figure comes with a triple-barreled shotgun, which is one of the most awesome weapons on a Transformer ever, and a multibarrel hand/foot/gun, and can form any limb of Defensor. The weapons can be stored on hardpoints on the sides or on top of the car, but there's no way to position them symmetrically. The hand/foot/gun is best mounted on top of the car, and I just attach the shotgun to Blades or Rook in vehicle mode.

Streetwise can be an arm like Dead End, but isn't as good in that position on Defensor because his arm kibble keeps running into the chest shield (and Groove) and coming out of position. This mold is too wide to be a very good arm, but somehow it doesn't work as well on Defensor as it does on Menasor.

He works much better as a leg on Defensor, like Wildbrakeneckrider is on Menasor. The back of he car that opens up to transform into the robot's legs stays together decently well on my copy, unlike my Dead End.

So, to conclude, Streetwise is an excellent retool of Dead End, even though he looks almost nothing like his G1 self beyond his head and alt. mode. This is a great example of what modern remolding can do. He makes a cool robot and a neat police car, a barely passable arm, and a decent leg. Definitely recommended when you can find one.

I love how long it took for someone to realise there wasn't a thread for this guy.

Wow I never knew there wasn't a thread up about him.

But on topic, just picked him up this weekend and between having him, Dead End, and Wildrider/Brake-Neck, he is probably the best of a great mold. The different weapon and the all new moldings on him really stand out and make him different from the others. Can't wait to get the rest of the team to see how well he looks with them.

Yey someone started a thread on him. I mentioned that there was no thread of him yet in the video review thread of him a few times. Nice detailed review :)  Love the pics and all the Protectobots with Metroplex.

I love SW. I would of like to seen better weapon storage just as I would of like to have seen on Deadend and Wildrider as well. I had to put some polish on his hips since they were super loose.

I love the shotgun he comes with, just so awesome. Him and First Aid are my favorite Protectobots now. Cant wait to find Hotspot and merge them all together.

You don't have Streetwise's arms pegged in place for arm mode. There's actually a peg on the back of his forearms that fits into holes on either side for arm mode; gets it more out of the way.

I myself didn't actually see it until I read Streetwise's instructions - the holes and pegs have a step in them that wasn't in Dead End's.

    Read about them here.

Thanks! I was confused as to why there wasn't a thread already, and did a Google search to make sure that if I started one, it wouldn't be redundant. Didn't come up with anything, so I thought, what the heck! I'll do it! Streetwise is one of my favorite Protectobots too. I think of him as a consummate professional police office with more integrity than Prowl. He throws himself into his work to keep his PTSD from being a sniper earlier in check. I actually think he's my favorite version of that mold, with Breakwildneckrider being second and Dead End being third.

    Like this, then?

You're right, it is a lot better and this has actually made the mold more tolerable as an arm and raised my opinion of it.

I adjusted Dead End as well.

    Thanks for the heads up!

Yes, that's it exactly. They're built up more than the ones on Dead End which don't fasten nearly as cleanly (at least on mine). Brake-Neck is a leg on mine, so I haven't really tested his arm mode.

Yeah, Brake-neck is a leg on my Menasor, too, and probably always will be.

I tried putting Defensor in various poses with Streetwise as an arm with his arms tabbed in, and I really wanted it to work. When I first got the Protectobots, I wanted to have First Aid and Rook as legs and Blades and Streetwise as arms, but First Aid proved to be a better arm. Even with Streetwise's arms tabbed in, they still kept hitting Defensor's chestplate and Groove's leg. Think I'm just gonna leave Streetwise as a leg.

Since someone finally got a thread going for this guy (which I had pointed out a while back in the Defensor thread) - and thank you for it - I can re-post my vehicle mode weapon configuration.

This is a very slight modification to the foot piece - you need to carve out a slightly deeper groove between the 'toes' for this to work well.

Streetwise's shotgun has two divots in the handle for no specific reason I can see, except it corresponds to details between the 'toes' of the foot piece. The shotgun goes between the toes, but it doesn't sit deep enough there so where it can be still pegged into the hole in the police car's roof.

Carving a little bit of plastic out between the two toes allows the shotgun to sit a little bit better, and gives you enough purchase with the peg to get the whole assembly to sit flush on the car roof.

I'm not sure what that means he's a white, black, red cop car that's just what he looks like?

The way his arms are articulated you can get some really good 2 handed poses with the shotgun too.

Who doesn't love a cop car with a triple barrel shotgun on the top, on this version if you cut those 2 tabs inside the part the window flips in it will make it muck easier to turn and less likely to stress.

I love this toy, and I can't wait to get him.

My only complaint about Combiner Wars right now is that with the BotCon reveals, the Decepticons are woefully outnumbered. I hope we get a new Decepticon combiner team out of all this, and I would LOVE to see Streetwise recolored in black as a Generations Combiner Wars Barricade. :)

I was waiting for this thread to come up, I've been very interested in this mold (and that gun!) since Smokescreen and Sky Guard were announced. I asked this on the toy thread too, but which character do you think will look better on Sky Guard?

Robot Mode: Streetwise is a more or less typical Deluxe-sized car-Transformer. His legs are formed from the rear of the car, while the upper body is the front. The hood of the car flips onto his back as a rucksack, seeing as his torso is, of course, dominated by the large peg necessary for attaching to the combiner torso. A black chest panel covers most of it, though, so you barely notice it's there. The robot is mostly white with black and red highlights. Similarity to his G1 predecessor is not exactly profound, but good enough to see that they're supposed to be the same guy.

Articulation is good, though short of spectacular, and Streetwise comes with two weapons. One is, of course, the obligatory hand-foot-weapon all Deluxe-sized Combiner Wars figures carry, which serves as a weapon and also as a hand or foot of the assembled combiner. Not bad, but Streetwise looks much better with his other weapon, a triple-barreled shotgun. So bottom line: a nice car-former robot. Nothing particularly special, but fully okay and with no flaws. Thumbs up.

Alternate Mode: Streetwise transforms into a white police car with blue trim and the word 'Police' on the hood and the sides. Police lights on top complete the look. Detailing is good, but could be better. You can mount either Streetwise's shotgun or the bigger hand-foot-gun on top so he has firepower in car mode, too. And... yeah, not sure what else to write here. It's a good-looking car, no visible robot bits, everything as intended. Not revolutionary, but fully okay. Thumbs up as well.

Combiner Mode: Streetwise can become an arm or a leg for any of the Combiner Wars combiners, but is of course intended to become part of Defensor with his fellow Protectobots. I'll do a separate review for Defensor once I'm done with the team members.

Remarks: Streetwise and the other Protectobots popped up out of nowhere in the second season of the original Transformers series and were mostly just there to form Defensor. Only one of the five got a spotlight episode of his own and it wasn't Streetwise, so he's mostly just the other police car bot, the one that's not Prowl. Incidentally, we'll see this mold reused for Combiner Wars Prowl, but at least this time Streetwise came first. Well, not first for this mold, that would be Dead End, but first police car and first Autobot before Prowl.

On his own Streetwise, much like Rook, is an okay figure. Nothing special, but no flaws, either. A bit more detail work would have done him wonders, but otherwise I have nothing to complain about here. The real reason to get him is, of course, to complete Defensor, but even leaving that aside, Streetwise is a good Deluxe-class Autobot. Thumbs up.

Gotta be honest next to the repaint of blades mold this is my fav cw deluxe yet. He looks fantastic. My only drawback is his legs they are pretty useless and he doesn't stand well to get the poses I'm looking for. Anyone have any thoughts or ideas in regards to fixing how loose they are. I see a few people have posted using clear nail polish, helps but not sure how or where. Also wondering will this damage the toy in any way shape or form as I know some nail polish eats through plastic.

Alot of us use Future floor polish, its now called something else,Pledge floor care by SCJohnson. It works wonders, you dab some on the ball joints and move the joint around to work it in there and let it dry,the tighter you want the figure the more coatings you add.

The nail polish trick is basically the same and works but leaves like a white residue on the joints when you move them after it drys. I havent any issues with the nail polish eating my figures away and that was I was alot using before the floor polish came along. Hope this helps :)

Love the face, love the gun, HATE the off-white plastic they used.

I'm hoping someone that gets Unite Defensor for Groove winds up selling their Streetwise because as-is, this is a definite pass, which is a shame.

I believe the Takara Streetwise will be a light gray color. I'm okay with the current off white, it matches his G1 counterpart well. Hasbro is matching the G1 toy color while TT is going all cartoon. Good luck getting a loose TT version. Someone might only want the set for Groove then dump the rest, anything is possible.
