Last one for the night, I swear PROS: Kickass new gorilla Pretender mold. Never really liked Pretenders but this one caught my eye. Excellent detailing, awesome, gritty facescuplt, nice fur detailing, and all-around fun to play with. Love the Legends dude. Got a nice smirk and the paint job is badass. The black goop lookin decals on his sides/arms are cool and the purple is nice n shiny. CONS: Not a lot of articulation on the Pretender shell but then again, it is a Pretender shell. Another think I'm not really fond of is the slight lack of space in the back. It looks huge but it barely fits the Legends figure and his targetmaster. And even then they have to go in a certain way with the nosecone of the shuttle pointing towards the shell's head and the Legends figure in alt mode with the front of his alt mode facing towards the butt. Would've loved a mech pilot seat like Minimus has in Ultra Magnus, but beggars can't be choosers. Final issue is you can't put the sword in one peg hole on the back and the gun in the other. You need to put the sword on the back and peg the gun onto the sword sideways. The magazine is too long and gets in the way. These are all minor gripes though. PICS: Bot modes Neck and shoulder swivels: Alt modes Pretender shell Let's see what's in here! I give it an 8.5/10. Few very minor qualms, but still highly recommended, especially as a troop-builder if possible. And if nobody does them before me, I'll put up a Megatron and possibly a SG Stepper review sometime tomorrow.
So the Legends figure more or less just gets stored in the Pretender shell? Shame I wouldn't mind having the actual robot and the Targetmaster myself. Wouldn't be too interested in the shell though
Same here. The Legends figure looks pretty cool in those colors. The gorilla part doesn't bother me much, but the figure itself just looks bad. The sculpting is pretty weak, and the paint apps are downright sloppy.
Given that pretty much every Decepticon Pretender ever made was either a beast or a monster, it makes perfect sense. It would have been neat if the figures could fit in robot mode, but what can ya do, really?
Oy, this thing is just ugly. It's cool that it's a new mold and all, but it looks so ridiculously stupid.
i don't even like pretenders but man alive he looks good. appropriately enough, the inner robot's deco evokes apeface's gorilla mode.
Just wanted to share that the gun does peg into the back after all. The peg holes are not perpendicular to the backpack so you need to peg the gun in at an angle.
I caved and got Oilmaster. They make a nice little set. Big hulking shell, smaller inner robot, and little Targetmaster companion. I like giving he main robot the sword since it looks so tiny in the gorilla's hand. Also his right gorilla arm seems to have a rattling noise. There's nothing wrong with the figure, but something inside the arm is rattling around....
I had someone pick him up for me at Botcon. The main reason why I wanted him was because of his appearance in the E-Hobby Magnificus comic from the Japanese G1 fiction. I also thought using the Swerve and Flanker mold to represent the double-pretender inner bots was genius, especially given that Swerve more than resembles Oilmaster's inner bot from the comic, which was completely coincidental. Now with that said, I paid way too much for this guy. If he had just been sold in stores like any regular TF release, he probably wouldn't have costed more than $30. I paid $200 for him (and he's going on ebay for $150-$200).
Yes, I learned a valuable lesson: Always wait a few months after Botcon to buy exclusives on eBay instead of trying to get instant gratification.
