    Combiner Wars Groove

The next Protectobot to be reviewed is their smallest member, Protectobot Groove!

While each Combiner so far in the line has had one of their members replaced, Groove managed to get out easy and has become a more appropriately scaled (if scale exists in Transformers) Legends figure, no longer forming Defensor's leg as a gigantic motorcycle. Groove is robot mode looks a bit awkward, due to how he transforms he is left with super long and lanky legs with a rather small torso sitting on top. It doesn't look awful but is something that I'm sure will turn off a lot of people. Outside of that he's a pretty good figure, as is always the case with the new scaled Legends he has excellent articulation and can hold his poses well. Unfortunately he comes with no weapons, so you'll have to give him somebody else's or leave him for hand-to-hand in battle scenes.

In a few quick steps Groove becomes are rather futuristic looking motorcycle. I haven't found any figures that will be able to ride it because the size and placement of the seat is rather strange. Still, the alt-mode works well for the character and scales very nicely with the other Protectobots.

He looks excellent with his fellow Protectobots in both alt-mode and vehicle mode. I know many are upset by his change from leg-mode, but I'm really happy with how they handled the figure. He's changed his position on the team, but he's still a member of the Protectobots!

While he's no longer a leg, Groove is still a part of Defensor: his new third mode is that of chest-plate. Unlike his fellow chest-plate combiner Blackjack, Groove actually has an involved transformation and the result is a bit more rewarding and convincing as an actual mode.

(Sorry for the blurry pic) Groove plugs into Defensor using pegs on his arms as well as a peg on Defensor plugging into a port on Groove's back. The result is a much more solid combination then Menasor and Blackjack. Groove sits firmly, I have messed around with Defensor lots and not once had him fall off.

I've seen many people call this mode a "training bra" but personally I'm a fan. I love that we've been given a new addition to the team but haven't had a missing member and I think a motorcycle works well as a Legends alongside the bigger figures. I've seen many fan-modes that place Groove on Rook's knee, but nothing I've tried has been particularly solid or look particularly good. I'm happy with Groove as a chest-plate!

Groove is a really fun figure and definitely worth picking up if you're getting the other Protectobots. On his own he's not the best Legends we've gotten in Generations, but I think he's by far the best of the Combiners' Legends partners in regards to how they're intergrated into the Combiner. While Powerglide and Blackjack are fine outside of their teams, Groove feels as an important part of the team and Defensor seems more complete with him.

Any chance of a high-quality shot of him combined with Rook?

I find it funny that G1 Groove had pretty much no real legs, just feet, and now Generations Groove is almost nothing BUT legs.

He's still awesome, though. Can't wait to get one.

I wasn't sold with the official pictures, but definitely am now. Though I think I'll be leaving him off of Defensor. Do wish he had a gun, but eh, I've got several extras laying around.

While Defensor looks more "G1 accurate" without Groove as the chest plate, I definitely like the look of him as the chest plate and it makes him look like he truly is a part of the team.

Excellent. I've got plenty of extra weapons laying around, so I'll have to find him a nice gun.

    Thanks.

I believe it's shown in one of the video reviews.

I can buy into this figure's odd proportions. It's therefore a winner in my book.

Groove can plug into Rook by lifting up Rook's backpack and tabbing Groove's arm in closing it. You can then allow the rest of Groove to sit on the outside of Rook like a giant knee-pad.
I've seen it done but don't have it myself so no pics. I Think Peaugh did a video on it.

    Me too!

Seeing as how leaked listings have show a Buzzsaw, Stripes, and Rewind and Frenzy and Rumble's new alt-modes are motorcycles. I'd be inclined to see it ad happening.

Sadly, I think anyone trying to ride Groove would look incredibly awkward. The proportions of his vehicle are just way too weird and Legends figures riding him are a bit too big.

I was kind of hoping that Kreon Groove would be able to ride him!
