I added the decals while on the figure. I then popped off the panels once they were dry and clear protective layer removed, cleaned them and cleared them with a lacquer finish. Which IMO is the best for a nice hard shiny finish.

 

How did you get the shield to stay on like that?

I did some panel lining, first time really doing anything like it. I also brushed some gold and silver detail on his arms and chest. I'm happy how he's coming along, definitely a lot more detail work needed tHan the PG Strike Gundam I just put together. Which was my first Pg ever.

Anyway here's a new picture. I have all the decals on except for the right leg, and I'm starting to put on the cybertronian symbol strings:

There's a slot right below the 5mm peg hole that connects the shield to the arm and the notches on the sword holder that goes on his back fit in there okay. It's not perfect (I wish it was lower down on his back) but it supports the shield

PS: Does anybody know how to keep the gun part of the shield up? It always slides out and it's really loose in the shield! It's a huge pain in the ass.

^ Have you tried using the solvent stuff they make for water decals?
And can you put some Pledge on the gun to tighten it up?

 

No and no but I'll look into those! The gun barrel is REALLY loose though. Might need some epoxy instead. Honestly I might even glue it in it's closed position as I think it looks good as just a shield, plus I have the leader OP shield if I want an open one.

Thanks! I glued the gun in on mine, It's just a poor design that should of had some way to lock in and out.

 

The barrel stays securely in place if you push it in a fraction more (or better, before closing the shield move it a bit more to the back). It doesn't slide then, but at least it stays in place.

 

Just finished mine up, they might be worse than the flames.

 

FINALLY finished all the decals except the ones that go on the shield. Once I'm done with painting a few areas, then comes the battle damage, then comes the LED installation.

Where are you guys choosing to put your cybertronian symbol decals? I've got one on each shin, some on the shield near the middle, some going along the entire length of the sword blade, and some on one of the shoulder pads. That's what I've seen in promo pics and screenshots. I know he has some really small ones on his faceplate but there's no way any of the included decals would fit.

I'm eager to see how the LEDs turn out, and the decals look great!
I'm probably not going to mess with the Cybertronian symbols, unless it looks like he needs them after he's painted.

I took some pics outside with my Sony phone earlier, it was real windy so that was fun. I have all the decals that I'm putting on and I think I'm done unless I end up bored and do some weathering/damage. I'm happy with his overall look either way.

I love the idea of an LED... I ended up painting the eyes blue not even thinking about it.

 

Thanks guys glad you like my pictures! I got some paint markers today so I'm gonna go to town on him again tonight hopefully. Quick question: is his abdomen area really supposed to be gold? I feel like it's hard to tell from the screenshots cause of lighting, weathering, etc plus in the manual I don't think it's gold.

Also shit I didn't even remember he used that sword in AoE I'm glad you figured that out!

 

The weathering mutes it, but it is gold. This what I used for a reference, that is why I went with the darker gun metal on a lot of him too.

Yeah actually the more I look at promo pics/screenshots the more I see tiny little details that have gold or bronze parts. I added a lot of gold detailing and it already makes him look so much better! Pics to come.
