I love that you can transform the cab seperately and give him the screaming face

I could have, but sarcasm is also a talent I have, and it seemed that the review was mostly showing off his Scorponock.

I have to admit, I've see anyone upset in a review at the reviewer. The purpose of using Scorponok was to demonstrate how big Magnus is! :)

Review is not complete until shots next to the Kelly Kapowski cutout Zack kept under his bed shows up.

    Otherwise, awesome stuff!

I just got Magnus today and hes just a chunk of awesome! The articulation isn't the best, but for how big and bulky he is, I can forgive it. This will be my last MP for quite a while (unless my preorder on MP Exhaust doesn't get cancelled by its release date).

    MP-22 Ultra Magnus Review (TCracker)

Sorry for the late review. My copy was held up by my supplier who insist on following the street release date that was the 27th December. Ben Collectibles or beniscary has already upped me, so I will be brief as possible.
I will skip the box and coin pics this time as my coin did not arrive with Magnus.

    Observations:-
    - For a long long time, we have not seen a huge amount of diecast used in any MP figure after MP-01. MP22 uses it generously and the diecast is placed in sensible areas where weight distribution plays an important part in the figure stability. All I can say is the feet, the chest and other small areas where diecast is present and well thought out.
    - He came packed in robot mode and right out of the box, you can already feel the awesomeness.

    - For the love of gawd, Magnus is heavy! This is a nice surprise as we have been so used to light and hollow weights in our MPs that heaving something heavy once in a while gives me the feeling of satisfaction.

    - Great use of space for the packaging. The box is not under utilized and Magnus and his accessories takes up the majority of the box space, unlike some companies. Well done here, TakaraTomy.

    Transformation:
You will be surprised how satisfying it is just to transform him between modes.
I was thinking there will be a lot of contortion and some finagling to get him into each mode. But no, I managed to transform him without instructions as the transformation itself is intuitive and by itself feels very natural. Basically you know which panel goes where and which hinges fold or slide to. There is no awkwardness or some robot yoga going on here.
The only con is he is huge and while transforming him, you will need to support some of the hanging bits before they are tabbed into somewhere.
The leg panels are a touch of genius. I thought Citizen Stack did well in compressing the alt mode bits into robot mode, but MP-22 did it miles better and still manage to look refined.

    Vehicle / Car Carrier Mode
    - Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. Never before I am soooooo pleased to see the car carrier mode executed so elegantly. It look beefy and brutish but at the same time he reeks of commanding stature. He carries up to 4 cars in this mode and they fit in nicely on the top and the bottom of the carrier.
This IS my G1 Magnus as I have envisioned him when I was a kid and placing the cars in carrier mode brings back many awesome memories for me when I owned a G1 Magnus eons ago.

    Robot Mode
    - First of all, articulation losses out to Citizen Stack. There is no waist swivel and the overall bulk kind of restricted his articulation. The legs can only go so much and the elbow looks like it did triple time in the gym. I will not go in detail and will let the pictures speak for itself. The pictures attached are the best poses I can squeeze out for him.
    - As for the infamous buttflap. I am at all not bothered by it as I find it does not hinder poses or make the figure look any less spectacular.

    Accessories
    - Daniel: Those demm hips. And faceless mannequin head. At least they got the paint apps right and there are no sloppiness there.
    - Spike: Taller than his own self that came with MP10. He suffers the same fate as Daniel as he has slender man's face.

    Comparison with Dr Wu partners
    [IMG]

    - Matrix grabbing hands : Rubber. I dont know how this will last of how fast it will yellow. My experience with this type of rubber is that it goes from white to yellow very very fast. Some of my Bandai / Yamato toys have that same level of quality and they have turned yellow within 6 months (and I did not sunbathe the parts or the toy, it is kept in a cooling room temp environment.) Only time will tell.

    - Shouty faceplate : meant to simulate the effect of him having trouble opening the Matrix. Besides that, it can be used for various poses, as the pics depict. And this extra face can be kept in the back of his backpack.

    - Super Ion Blaster : My personal opinion? Looks kinda small but still okay to look at. Its handle folds up for storage in vehicle mode.

    Summary

    Pros:
    - He is big
    - He has a lot of diecast and all in the right places
    - He weighs nearly 1kg.
    - Best Ultra Magnus toy to date only rivaled by Citizen Stack due to added articulation in Stack
    - Colors are spot on and G1 accurate (toon colors)
    - He scales well with other MP figures
    - And seriously, I think he can deal with it

    Cons:
    - Limited articulation due to the bulk
    - Some has pointed out he looks like a fat kid. Initially yes, but after a while he grows on you. Kinda like the colleague you did not like at first but after mingling with him or her, he or she came out to be a pretty cool person

Overall - On the scale of 1 to 10, he is a 9 to me at least. This is going to be the best representation of Magnus in a long long time and I implore those who are into MPs, get him. Those whi are Magnus fanboys/girls, get him. And whose who are remotely into transforming robots should check him out too.

^i like to imagine that in the last pic, instead of being in the throws of battle, prowl just threw a destructive temper tantrum and they're all trying to contain it.

Will the extra Matrix that came with the Hasbro version of Rodimus fit in Ultra Magnus' chest? I think it may be too big, but I do want him to have a Matrix and that's my only spare. Kicking myself for not buying a Satellite MP10 Matrix when I had the chance!
