Takara Legends Whirl We've already gone over Whirl when the Hasbro version came out ages, but I just thought I'd show off this new version with some pics and a short commentary. If this version is not deserving of its own thread, please merge with my old Whirl review. Legends Whirl comes in a deco much closer to that of the original toy. He's mostly light blue with a few dark blue highlights, which makes the toy stand out a little bit more. Legends Whirl features no sticker sheet. Instead, the Autobot logos are tamographed onto the figure, which to me is a gigantic improvement. Because of this, the red band around the rotors is absent, but honestly I didn't really like the look of it to begin with. The "Gerwalk" mode is nowhere to be seen on the box or instructions, so I've completely skipped over it as well. The mode was kind of awful to begin with. Legends Whirls instructions are far more complete then the Hasbro version, detailing pushing in the shoulders, the correct transformation for the digitigrade legs and the lifted neck. Compared to the mono-blue color scheme of the original, Legends Whirl has far more variance in the colors, which give him a much more visually striking robot mode. The main reason I bought the Takara version, similar to why I shelled out for the Takara Trailbreaker, is because the Takara has a much closer color scheme to MTMTE's Whirl, who this will be representing on my shelf. Its a bit of a shame they didn't give him dark blue shoulder spikes and claws and blue rotors, but all in all this guy is much closer to the version of Whirl I really care about, which is why I bought him. My old version will go to my Classics shelf and the new one will take its place on my IDW shelf. Legends Whirl retains all of the originals weapons, all also left completely unpainted. Group shots: He also comes with a rather adorable comic, similar in style to the Kreon comics, in which Whirl teams up with Ai from Car Robots and super-deformed versions of the BW cast to take down a rampaging Roadbuster and Tankor.
just waitin on a voyager cyclonus... that group shot is so nice, and it's so sweet of you to send me all of those for christmas
That would get my attention. At least if they do it before X-Transbots does an MP version (not confirmed, obviously- but definitely hinted).
I do like the Takara version ALOT better than Hasbro. However, I already have the Hasbro version and don't see myself shelling out the extra cash for a few paint apps. That's me though. The reviewed still rocked though.
