Didn't see a thread yet for this one.
Grabbed him from Amazon when they were available. Just snapped a few quick cellphone pictures, I'm sure someone with a decent camera will be able to provide some better images.

Let me start by saying the plastic quality is excellent. He feels super solid, the joints are all incredibly tight. He feels like a significant improvement in build quality from some of this years mainline and generations releases.

    Dinosaur mode:
Not much to say about this, he's a squat little dinosaur of a fictional species. Obviously not a T-rex given his hands, or his underbite, or the spines running down his back. He's decently posable in this mode, swivels in the knees and ratcheting knees. Hips are universal joints and his hands swivel forward and backwards. When you press a level on the head his mouth opens.

    Robot mode:
Everything pegs together solidly and he turns from a long but squat dinosaur to a beefy robot with chunky legs and a broad torso. He retains all the same movement from his dinosaur mode legs, now joined by universal hips, a thigh swivel and a decent amount of knee range. No waist but he does have a neck joint.

    Transformation:
    Nothing complicated here.
    - Compress the tail and split to form the legs (he does the AoE Snarl thing, but with a fake tail piece. It's a nice touch)
    - Flip out the feet
    - Fold the dinosaur head back
    - Move the hips/shoulders up to peg into the torso
    - Rotate the lower arms at the elbow and fold out the hands

Oh, and for those who hate them the faction stickers come off super easy. I'll be adding a Decepticon emblem and making this my Goryu.

Glad to know the sticker can be removed so it's not like you're stuck with having it on.

I was wondering. Do you have both TFA Swoop and Snarl in hand and if so how does RID15 Grimlock look next to them?

Thanks for the pix and review! So far the only figure from this line I'm interested in getting. I like his bot mode a lot!

I'm afraid not, got rid of all my Animated stuff. If memory serves though he should be about the same size as Snarl, a bit shorter than Swoop.

Really? That's good to know. :)  Since Takara's releasing the TFA Swoop and Snarl toys for their RID15 line next year I'm wondering how does RID15 Grimlock look next to them so if he goes well enough with them I might buy the RID15 versions of the TFA molds to go alongside him as different characters like how you're doing with your RID15 Grimlock.

You know what? He actually looks nicer looking than the first picture I saw of him. I'm definatlly adding him to my Grimlock collection

Just picked this guy up, and I like him quite a bit. Transformation is pretty easy, but it has some neat ideas about it. It feels unique, even though it's in essence the same old Grimlock transformation.

Also, I love how they did the jaw gimmick. More fun than just opening it yourself, but without the annoying spring that plagues so many other toys (looking at you, Voyager AOE Grimlock).

The 3 step version might work better with Cyberverse.

Grimlock looks neat, but he really just doesn't wow me too much. I think a larger scale definitely would have benefited him. He definitely looks the most accurate in both modes of all the wave 1 characters, though!

Those faction insignias are just stickers? That's super neat for those who want to remove them, but a lot of kids are gonna be disappointed when the sticker starts to come off and the gimmick portion of their figure doesn't work.

group shot with the animated dinobots

I took the sticker off because I think it looked stupid, oh anyone else have MAJOR play in the elbow ratchets or did I just get unlucky

He's pretty awesome. My favourite of wave 1. I've said before, he won't be Grimlock for me, I'll be repurposing him as, someone, not sure who yet, but he'll definitely be a nice addition to the shelves.

Huh. He doesn't look too bad with them. His head's out of proportion a bit but then again Animated's style was far more cartoony then the one RID15 has.

Here is a Dino mode comparison

And reading your username kaijuguy I thought you might like this partial transformation of rid grimlock, it makes it look as if there is a suit operator lol

Me too, the Dino mode fits in much better cause the head doesn't look microscopic in comparison to the animated Dinos

    Me too.

Thanks for the review, it may not be perfect, but I have a pretty good idea what it is.

This is my favorite figure from the first wave of RiD 2015 figures. The transformation isn't groundbreaking but it is satisfyingly different from the usual Grimlock schema and everything ends up locking together really nicely. He oozes character in both modes and the green/black color scheme is really sharp looking, especially with his orange face. The only thing I can say that annoys me is the lack of an weapon but then this isn't your usual Grimlock so I guess a sword isn't a prerequisite.

Not excited about the faction sticker, but this figure is awesome enough to be bought on sight.
