I really like the new robot mode. The Dino mode is a little too stylised for my taste but again that robot mode! Make a voyager and I'll very interested in this.

I broke down and bought this guy. Maybe I'm a Dinobot softie. Maybe this toy is actually good. I'm still not hopefull for the rest of the line, but I'll enjoy Grimlock.

This Grimlock doesn't have a waist which is a shame. On the bright side, his head can turn side to side and tilt UP a tiny bit..

Left arm's a little shakey on my mine. Like the pin isn't tight enough.

    Should I worry about breakage?

The up and down is unintentional, and could damage the figure as the part you are wiggling is glued on to a peg

Look back a page or two I posted about what is causing that, but no I doubt it will break

He's cool, save the elbows. Clicky joints were not necessary.

    Agreed about the clicky joints.
Just got it from a friend today. The figure is fully underwhelming and not hugely fun. It looks really nice in both modes, but it just isn't as good as I was hoping it would be. I like the bot mode, and the dino mode is pretty solid, but the overall articulation, transformation and quality seem like a big step back from Prime.
This is also the first time that I can actually feel an obvious difference in the plastic compared to previous offerings. It feels somewhat weaker and is much more concerning than even the FoC Combaticons. Also, I've come to really dislike pin joints like what are used in the shoulders and elbows. This figure could have really benefitted from ball joints.
If this is any indication of how the rest of the line will be, I'll definitely be sticking with Generations this year.

I actually used that to my advantage-- the first Grimlock I got had grotesquely misapplied paint apps on his face, so I got another, pried both of their heads off, and switched them. It was easy since the part is just glued on and not fused or anything-- I had no problem just pushing one head onto the other's peg.

This combined with the T. rex arms being able to swing out in this mode plus the Cons all being animal-themed plus this figure not being in traditional Grimlock colors makes me reconsider passing on him.

Bought him today and the first thing that happened was his elbow ratchet exploding inside the arm. Moved the elbow up, then when I tried moving the hard as diamond elbow down that grey U piece plopped right out. So now one of his elbows is ragdoll loose, and I can very easily see the same thing happening to the other one.

Gonna try and floor polish that joint over the next few days see if it helps it. Really wish Hasbro would stop using such shoddy ratchet joints on these figures in places where regular friction joints would work just fine. My Roadbuster turned out to be a complete mess because of shoddy ratchets as well.

Shame really, he's quite nice aside from that. Though, I'm not really a fan of G1 Grimlock so I'm more than okay with the new look. Throw in a little bias for the color green, and you've got something right in my wheelhouse.

I wasn't going to get any of the figures in this size class but my fondness for Grimlock and Gojira made me pick one of these up last night. I think he looks great in both modes and the transformation is pleasantly fun.

I'm not a size or scale nitpicker by any means, but Grimlock does seem curiously, excessively small. He isn't that much bigger than TFA Activators Grimlock in alt mode. His head is actually Activators size as well. He's even shorter than is wave-mate Bumblebee in bot mode. It's just kind of strange.

Adding to the strangeness is the ratcheting elbows that everyone has mentioned. The figure is so small and light that no kind of ratchets are needed at all, yet they put in the industrial strength kind with a separate clicker piece that are usually reserved for joints that have to bear a lot of weight. It wouldn't be an issue if you didn't have to apply so much force to move them that it stresses the joint. I'm going to see if I can open mine up and sand down the clicker to prevent the thing from going kablooey.

One more weird thing - the dino arms are on ball/socket joints, but the arm sockets are sculped in such a way that you get none of the movement that ball socket joints typically offer. They are essentially rotation joints.

All of the bitching out of the way, I don't regret buying him. I really get a kick out of having a Transformer that turns into a Gojira looking creature. It's actually kinda my favorite alt mode for Grimlock right after G1. And having his dino head flipped up in bot mode look amazing, like a twisted hybrid of Blot and Killer Croc.

Found Grimlock today and picked him up along with Legion Steeljaw.

I like everything except those elbows, which between the posts here and the way it clicks, somewhat frightens me. Though on mine, it appears to be the left arm that is scary, the right seems to click OK.

I'm still planning on repurposing him as Goryu and am trying to come up with a good spiked club for him to use...

Would it be possible to sand down the base of the dino-shoulders in rounded bevel, to allow the ball joints their full range of motion?

On mine the right arm is a little loose. It doesn't bother me in robot mode, but it dino mode it does. Is there a way to fix this?

I think so. It doesn't bother me enough to modify so I wont be trying it myself.

Not full range but it would give you more movement , you'd have to make channels in the cup as well to maximize the poseability, but either of those things would ruin the aesthetic of those shoulders IMO

Look back in this thread a few pages
