    (Video Review located here!)

In short (haha) this figure is massive and heavy enough that its box comes with its own dedicated shipping box around it, that HLJ just added a label to. It feels ridiculously durable, and avoids collapsing in on itself by having rotocast components held together with ABS joints and metal screws.

Every single part of this figure is in service of the mission statement "Be as big as G1 Fort Max, and be poseable". Especially the manner by which it's constructed, which feels like an approach entirely directed by the idea of having a near 2-foot-tall robot action figure that can pose without succumbing to its own weight and mass.

I don't think it suffers at all from any of this, as the produced pieces have got a strong and unique feel to them. And the paint apps are still pretty well done.

I also love how the headsculpt tries to mash the G1 toy's goofy tinyfaced cranium into something a little less silly. He looks like a rude and ugly jerk in all the best ways.

He only has a gun and a shield, and they're both single-piece rotocast chunks that you could probably assault another human being with, if you're so inclined. The shield's easy to mount, while the gun uses a mushroom peg into the claw's palm that needs a bit of finagling and possibly a bit of light hairdryer heat.

His posability feels very unique, due to the interplay between the rotocast materials of much of his body, and the ABS materials of many of his hinge joints. Nothing is floppy, partly due to that interplay, and he's able to escape having gorilla-arm syndrome to some degree due to a swivel on his two 'finger' claws, which allows either of his hands to go from scorpion pincer to a sort of Ninja Turtle hand. My major gripe here is that his waist and neck only swivel from side to side. At least in the case of the neck, I think a second axis of rotation could've been managed without affecting the toy on the whole.

Also, where the eff is Fasttrack?! I'd have loved to see Sentinel's take on a small and poseable rendition of the little guy, and he'd have completed the G1 toy accessory count as well. Y'know, leaving aside things like the little base mode arms.

It's expensive and does not transform. I suspect these are due to a low production run and the legal wording of the official Transformers license that Sentinel acquired to release this figure, respectively. This is a super-durable, incredibly imposing display centerpiece that any Transformers fan should get to see in person.

I'll leave the purchasing part up to you. On something this expensive, it's less about recommendations and more about simple information. Gigantic Action Scorponok succeeds at what it sets out to do, and feels anything but fragile. It's an eye-catcher and a conversation piece. It's a licensed third-party piece and extremely G1-devoted in just about everything it does. It weighs as much as a baby and could probably kill someone if you beat them with it for long enough.

Gigantic Action: Like a baby, can kill another man.

Finally a black zarak stand in that won't disintegrate in your hands!

    And he's slightly cheaper too!

It's to bad this got released now, I've already spent my Christmas budget (mostly on PG Unicorn with the led set) so it will have to wait, and hopefully won't skyrocket in price by the time I'm in the market for it

Thanks for the review, vid and pic, there was no way I'd pick it up without at least one english review

Looks great, and great review. But the stickershock alone on this puckers up my B-Hole.

I'm still upset with you Vangelus!

Why didn't you post this during HLJ's Black Friday sale! 17% off man! :(  :) :D

It is a beautiful figure.... Ugh, where is my credit card....

    Wow, just wow...that's awful.

$400 for a figure (not including shipping) made of cheap materials that doesn't transform and has very basic articulation? Titan Metroplex is half the price (which is still inflated aftermarket price) and is entirely superior. If I didn't already have Energon Scorpinok (who is completely superior and still a homage to the G1 character) I'd sooner buy a crappy knockoff.

Anybody who has the money to waste on this should find a better purpose for that money. And if you can't, just give it to me. I've got bills to pay.

Yikes, I got the impression Vangelus liked the figure :D

As for Titan Metroplex being better.... I dunno about that. It is a fun figure sure but I'll reserve judgment until I have one of these bad boys in hand. It looks fun!

You know, looking at it more, why can't you put it in Scorpion mode? Sure, it doesn't have the legs but don't the thighs rotate? With the G1 toy, it was merely lay it down and move the arms.

What are you talking about, cheap materials?

    The material list stated

ABS: ultra common on tf toys, a hard plastic

ATBC-PVC: commonly referred to as floppy plastic by tf collectors and standard on many tf toys, probably what the joints are using for friction, its PVC that has been treated with a plasticizer (ATBC) to change its elasticity

PA: actually there was an interview that SydneyY translated with the design lead for gen arcee where he mentions using nylon resin, which is a polyamide or PA, and is used in a wide range of tf toys, usually on the joints

I don't see any of these materials as cheap, they are a standard affair as far as transformers are concerned, so I have no idea what you expected it to be made from if not plastic, cause die-cast at that size for anything other than the joints and other smaller parts isn't really feasible for form or function IMO

I think your other complaints are entirely valid though, just not your comment on the materials

I know the dry sciencey stuff is uninteresting to most, but I've got to put all those material science classes I had to take to use somewhere, lol

I really want this figure so that I can display it with G1 Fort Max and Gen30th Metroplex.

Looks great; hope to see more pics soon from other boardmembers who've purchased it.

Well, shipping went under 300 at HLJ! Who is pulling the trigger with me?

I hope to take pictures of this figure soon :)

272.94 is the quote I got with the current yen to dollar. I won't lie about that being tempting. If I hadn't just bought King of Beasts I would have been all over Black Zarak at that price.

Damn you Chris for tempting me!

I'm not sure how much the price will fall but I'm worried because if I don't snag it now; what are my options? BBTS for $600? No way, this is probably the cheapest it will be before secondary prices push this thing out of my range.
