No issue with mine and I haven't heard of many issues if any for the Takara one. There is a stress mark on one of the wings on the right side but folding it isn't necessary for transformation, so I'm not too bothered. Head releases easily if you hold down the latch and tilt the head forward/towards you when removing. One of the ankles is a tad looser than the other but aside from that, I'm very happy with the Takara release.

got mine a couple of weeks ago, and he had none of the quality issues that unfortunately have plagued many. So pleased with him I bought him a gift...which, I, personally, think looks great, but can understand non-comics fans going with the eye-rolling!

Just found 3 of these guys in B&M along with whirl and springer at 12.99 each ... Been checking b&m for weeks and finally they show up lol
Got the Hasbro one last weekend at a local toy shop. Loved it, but didn't like the floppy hands. Shelled out for the Takara one and its perfect. So good!
Still debating on a pickup for this guy. From what I've read here, there were two variations released- one prone to breakage in the Headmaster gimmick, and a later release apparently correcting that. Is there any way to tell those versions apart, either in-store or from online retailers? What steps can be taken to prevent any problems with the Headmaster?
You can read the first couple of pages on this very thread. I honestly don't think you'll come across any major problems. The issues were from the initial release of Brainstorm from early Fall of last year. All the ones I've seen in the stores are the 2nd production batch, and they're wonderful. I have both so I should know. The 2nd ver. paint details on the head is sharper and comes out without a fight. You can tell before you open the box, a clear rubber band is holding the head in place of the 2nd ver. This design is simple but elegant, a must for fans of Cybertronian alt modes.
Mine had the floppy hands as well...little bit of Future and poof. All better!! This is a frakin awesome figure!!! I may do some repainting on the face though, I hate the color of the mask and the eyes.
Mines hands are just fine. I got the 2nd version, and I am just curious what they fixed from the first run. It took some careful wiggling to get the headmaster out the first time, and after that, he comes out without a problem
Sorry to bump the thread guys, but does anyone know of specific online retailers that carry the second run? I see that BBTS has the figure in stock, but I don't know if it's leftovers of the first run w/ those problems or the fixed one. I only ask because to be honest, I don't want to deal with the hassle of getting the first run and then trying to return it. So just thought see what y'all say. Thanks!
I think HTS only sells the 2nd run. That's where I got mine. Also, check your local Target stores. The only Brainstorm I saw out in the wild, was at a Target, and it was also the 2nd run.
Finally got a Brainstorm from HTS. The headmaster gimmick actually works! Left hand, right foot, and head joint are somewhat loose, but nothing future floor polish can't fix. There are also some minor stress marks on the hip skirts and on the left shoulder wings near the pins, but I assume nothing too severe. After some panel lining, this guy looks amazing. Very pleased with it
So I recently did the mania king wrist fix using sandstorm, and now that I look at it, I think this mod would work perfectly with springer and brainstorm. Anyone else agree?
Just got Brainstrom I think two weeks ago, I transform it right away to robot mode and attached the head. Tried to remove the head today for transformation to jet mode and voila! Difficult to remove. Just my luck. Will try later to wiggle it. edit: wiggled it and released without harm. Now Arcarna is sitting on the jet nicely.
