Deceptive Beginnings

This thread will be used for a series of short stories that will relate in some way to my main story, Knightfall. To properly understand what is happening, it would be best to read Knightfall first, but these stories may also be read as stand-alone chronicles of Cybertron's history. The first story is self-explanatory. I hope you enjoy it, and I look forward to reading everyone's thoughts. Thank you.

Note: Some of my stories may be rather grotesque, and readers are warned now that there may be uncomfortably descriptive events that involve violence.

The intense heat from the smelting pits was almost too much for the young Transformer to bear. As a soldier, he was built for strength and endurance, but his mining cousins were better equipped for such conditions. What was a soldier doing in a smelting chamber? He was wondering the exact same question. The soldier had no recollections of how or why he had got to the chamber, only that he was presently tied upside down by the feet, suspended over a large barrel of red-hot metal. The soldier tried to lift himself up so that he could pry the carbon-fibre coils off of his ankles, but the combination of the heat from the barrel beneath him and a curious aching in his joints made the effort pointless.

“You may stop struggling, soldier.” A cold voice called out from the soldier’s left.

He turned his head to see an average-sized Transformer with rectangular wings on his back and a black and white colour scheme. A red crest adorned the Transformer’s helmet, clashing oddly with his cool blue eyes. By his side, he held a standard grey rifle with several odd attachments. The Transformer looked to be a law-enforcement officer of some kind.

“My name is Prowl, and I have brought you here on account of some troubling rumours that I have heard.” The Transformer explained to the soldier. “According to several contacts I have in Kaon, there have been many curious uprisings among the soldier ranks. Is that correct?”

The soldier knew exactly what Prowl was speaking of, because he was the one who was orchestrating the uprisings. But, of course, Prowl couldn’t know that, so he lied.

“There may be, but I have no knowledge of them.” The soldier replied confidently. “Now, is this really necessary? I am certain interrogations would be better if performed under comfortable conditions.”

“I have been in the Autobot Law Enforcement Division all my life. In that time, I have seen many prisoners interrogated in the manner you are suggesting.” Prowl recalled. “It does not change anything. Either way, the prisoner will always spill the information I need. For if they don’t, I have legal clearance to use any means I need to get it.”

Prowl pushed a lever on a console to his right. The coil suspending the soldier suddenly gave way, and he plummeted down towards a blazing metal death. Just before that, however, Prowl stepped forward and caught the soldier by his left shin. Prowl showed no signs of struggling, but the soldier’s considerable size would take its toll soon.

“What is your name, soldier?” Prowl demanded.

“I have no name, and you know that full well.” The soldier responded angrily. “My comrades are not even important enough for one, in the eyes of the Autobot command. They believe we will fight back like our ancestors did, so they restrict us. But in doing so, they make it more likely for us to follow in the footsteps of the past!”

“I know all of that.” Prowl said quietly. “But I must thank you. You gave me the reason for why the soldiers are rebelling, and that information will be invaluable to High Command. Perhaps I can talk them into eliminating the soldiers all together, so that no further complications will arise.” Prowl did not smile, but his tone sounded far happier than it should have. “You will come with me to the Kaon Prison, where you will spend the rest of your miserable life.”

“On what charges?” The soldier shouted, enraged.

“No charges whatsoever. But if my ideas do go through with Command, then I will be doing you a favour. You will escape the eradication of soldiers from Cybertron.” Prowl smiled that time, and pulled the soldier out of the barrel. He slapped a pair of statis cuffs onto the soldier’s wrists before he could escape, then stood him up. “So in a way, I am saving your life right now.”

The soldier growled menacingly, but stopped when Prowl pushed him the small of his back, and he was forced to walk forward across the bridge that crossed the smelting chamber. Prowl stayed silent the whole time, and the only indications of his presence to the soldier were further jabs in the back when he slowed down.

Prowl and his prisoner exited the smelting building after passing through another chamber and a main hall. Outside was Kaon, the mining capital of Cybertron that doubled as a convict facility. A thick haze blanketed the entirety of Kaon, so navigation was troublesome. But the soldier had lived there his entire life as a prison guard, so he knew his way around. He thought of the irony, that he would soon be captive in the very walls he had protected.

At the entrance to the prison, the warden came to meet Prowl. The warden was twice Prowl’s height, but still shorter than the soldier. He was very thin and lanky, with long arms like swords. The warden had no face, instead a visor took up the majority of the front of his head. Prowl looked fearless, but internally he always hated seeing the warden. Nothing was more creepy and mysterious than him.

“Warden, I have a new convict for you.” Prowl shoved the soldier forward violently. He moved to accompany the solider inside, but the warden blocked him with his right arm. “What?”

“I will take it from here, Autobot.” The warden said softly. His voice was deep and lifeless.

Prowl was deeply offended, but nonetheless turned and walked off without another word. The warden grabbed the soldier by the cuffs around his wrists and pushed him inside. When it was just the two of them, the warden stopped, then deactivated the statis cuffs. He looked expectantly at the soldier.

“He was curious about the uprisings.” The soldier explained. “But I doubt he will be a problem again. They are nearly ready, Soundwave, all we have to do is wait until Prowl returns to Kaon with more Autobots. Then we will have our revenge, and they will all know the glory that is the soldiers of Cybertron.”

After Prowl’s departure, there were no further visitors to Kaon for several weeks. The soldiers all grew restless as they awaited his return. Soundwave and the soldier leader were adamant that the attack would come soon, and without warning, but the rest of Kaon was unsure. At least, until the commanders were proven right.

In the early hours of the day that was exactly one month to the soldier’s ‘conviction’, a fierce roar split the silence of the sky apart. Five drop-ships hovered outside the prison, and multitudes of Autobot peacekeepers leaped out, their rifles raised and swords at the ready. Prowl had lied. The prison was to be the first target, so that all of the apparent ‘evil-doers’ would be eradicated as well as the soldiers themselves. But to the Autobots, evidently there was no distinction there.

The soldier and Soundwave stood at the ready as the Autobots arrived on the prison doorstep. One of them, a smaller-than-average scout, stepped forward. He was yellow and black, and had a head like a marshmallow with two small horns sticking out. Despite the scout’s size, the badge of the Elite Guard adorned his chest.

“My name is Bumblebee, and I do not agree with the sentiments my superiors have given.” The little scout called out bravely. “I do not wish for there to be bloodshed, but if you do not surrender peacefully, there will be!”

“Big talk from such a tiny Autobot.” The soldier stepped forward towards the scout.

“We outnumber you 10 to 1, and our weapons can level your buildings in a matter of seconds. I am not bluffing. Now stand down, and surrender!” Bumblebee pleaded.

“No.” The soldier said simply, before suddenly punching Bumblebee clean in the face, sending him flying back to his ranks.

Before the Autobots could react, the soldier was upon them. Though there were 100 of them and only one of him, the soldier attacked without fear. He grabbed the first Autobot he reached around the waist, then used him as a hammer to beat the others away. Heads were dislodged by the sheer force of impact, and Energon gushed out of bloody wounds from the soldier’s razor-sharp elbows and knees. In a minute, half of the Autobots were lying as corpses upon the metal ground, holes punched through their bodies or decapitated heads lying a few metres away.

The remaining Autobots desperately fired on the soldier, but he shrugged off their bullets and continued on his rampage. He grabbed two and smashed their heads together, then crushed three more with a single stomp of his foot. The Autobots dispersed in sheer terror, but they couldn’t escape. None escaped the wrath of the soldier.

When every Autobot lay dead around him, their Energon staining his armour and the ground beneath his feet, the soldier grabbed Bumblebee by the neck, and brought him close to his face.

“You have heart, young Autobot. It would be a shame to ruin something so valuable. So this is what we will do. You will look directly into my eyes, and remember everything I say. You will remember my face. You will store it in your memory, forever. Understood?” The soldier asked. Bumblebee nodded, trembling in pain and horror. “My people have been restricted for far too long. We demand equal peace throughout Cybertron, and we have no problems achieving that by force. If an entirely new leadership will have to be made, so be it. But remember this, Autobot.” The soldier forced Bumblebee to look at the corpses around him. “No one can escape us. No one can stop us. Everyone will yield eventually.” Bumblebee looked back at the soldier. “Everyone will bow to me. Everyone will bow to Megatronus!”

Megatronus suddenly closed his fist, snapping the Autobot’s neck. Bumblebee’s head rolled off, and Megatronus threw the lifeless body aside. He ignored the bodies all around him, crushing them beneath his feet and wiping the dripping blue liquid from them off his armour. He reached Soundwave.

“Make it happen.” Megatronus said simply, before entering the prison. The doors slammed shut behind him.

The next day, in the Autobot capital of Iacon, a metal box arrived at the Decagon from a mysterious sender. The Autobots retrieved it and brought it up to their commander, Ultra Magnus. Magnus, who was just a general at the time, sat the box on his desk and opened it. Inside, a metal plate covered the contents. On the plate, a message was scratched on:

“What has been seen, cannot be unseen. What has been heard, cannot be unheard.”

Ultra Magnus ignored the cryptic message and pulled the plate out. He nearly went into statis in shock. Inside the box was the still bleeding head of Bumblebee, covered in his team’s Energon, lifeless eyes looking up at Magnus. Knowing exactly what the message meant, Ultra Magnus carefully cleaned the head and retrieved the processor from inside it. He plugged it into a specially designed port in his tablet, and the last moments of Bumblebee’s life were relived.

Ultra Magnus heard Megatronus’s speech, cringing at every word, then gasped when the Autobot battalions’ bodies were shown. Magnus was speechless. The last thing Bumblebee ever saw, and the most troubling thing to Ultra Magnus, was the terrifying red glare of Megatronus.

Very well written story. It was a great idea to separate these kinds of stories from the original post. Looking forward to more

Thank you guys. I originially intended for Bumblebee to lose his voice as he has by Megatron's hand in the official continuities, but I thought it would be more symbolic if he lost his head.

Here is the next story of Deceptive Beginnings, titled "The Mutineer" (the first story was titled "The Soldier").

A purple and grey Decepticon tank crashed over a weakened metal wall in the streets of Strebor. Autobots called out in panic as the tank fired upon them, blowing body parts and street debris every which way. Explosions from the tank’s rounds shook the ground, but the Decepticon relished the challenge and adapted his treads to compensate. He aimed a fire round at a weak-looking support for a nearby building, and it burst into flame. The fire ate away the metal in speeds that shouldn’t have been possible, and the building tumbled over. It crashed in the middle of the street, blocking the Decepticon’s path, so he shot it again, clearing a path.

It was the third day of the Decepticon Siege on Strebor, led by the warlord Galvatron. At first, there had been resistance, but before long the Autobots realised how hopeless their chances were, so they chose to flee their fortress. None had yet made it out alive.

The Decepticon tank crawled over an especially large piece of rubble, then transformed. Pieces of the tank violently popped out then span and pulled back together in new configurations. The cannon jerked out suddenly, and the treads pushed onto the ground, lifting the tank off the ground. A humanoid shape was distinguishable as the torso snapped into place and the treads disappeared into thick, powerful legs. Two arms reached out from the turret of the tank, the right taking the cannon with it, and slid noisily into the shoulders. The Decepticon’s head finally rose from the collar, showing three prongs before glowing orange eyes and a crazed smile.

“HAIL GALVATRON!” The Decepticon screamed out, curdling the Energon of every Autobot in earshot. “Come and meet your deaths, Autobots, and fall with honour, for there is no greater honour than to die by Galvatron’s hand!”

Galvatron leaped off the rubble and landed solidly on the surface below. Fires licked up at him and smoke shaded his vision, but Galvatron paid no attention as he continued to call for challengers. None came willingly, so he decided to look for them himself. After rounding a corner into the lower levels of the hollow shell of a skyscraper, Galvatron spotted the glint of the sun on a metal leg as it disappeared behind a pillar. Galvatron raised his right arm and fired at the pillar. Two voices screamed out, but were abruptly silenced as the pillar collapsed on them.

Galvatron laughed maniacally, then continued to search for more. He left the skyscraper and came upon a wide open courtyard. There was no debris scattered throughout it like the rest of the city, instead, Autobots were scattered throughout it. Galvatron’s eyes lit up evilly and he raised his cannon once again. In one shot, he completely obliterated a group of Autobots, then he picked off the rest as they fled. When two dared to come close, Galvatron punched straight through their spark chambers, retrieving their sparks in the process. He pulled his hands back out of the recently-lifeless bodies, and stuffed the glowing blue spheres into his mouth. Energon dripped off of his lips and the energy from the sparks flowed into Galvatron’s own.

Galvatron transformed back into tank form (in just as violent a manner as before) and drove off to the other side of the courtyard. The Autobot corpses that had escaped total disintegration crumbled like paper beneath his mighty treads. When Galvatron reached the opposite end of the courtyard, he paused and signalled his lieutenants. In a matter of seconds, a sleek, angular purple jet screamed through the morning sky, closely followed by a wide, blocky, blue and white bomber.

The jet transformed in mid-air. The wings slid smoothly to the back as arms and legs extended from the fuselage. The end-robot was majestic and elegant as he touched down on the ground in front of Galvatron, as light as a feather. His helmet was like a samurais, with two horns sticking out of the top. His face was entirely black, like a shadow, save for two small, intelligent red eyes. His body looked like an ancient warrior’s and two swords with dark grey blades were sheathed on his hips.

Behind him, the bomber also transformed in mid-air. His transformation was like a mix of the jet’s and Galvatron’s with an equal amount of violence and fluidness. His wings ended up forming a cape of sorts on his back, and his body shape was stocky, though he was slightly taller than Galvatron, and slightly shorter than Cyclonus. A moustache-like plate adorned his face, and his fingers ended in claws. A radar-like appendage stuck out of his head. His yellow eyes were proud and challenging. The bomber ended up looking like a robotic medieval king or pope.

Galvatron transformed himself, and the other two bowed.

“Rise, my brothers, we are equals here!” Galvatron smiled pleasantly. “Cyclonus,” he addressed the purple jet, “how is the East going?”

“The Autobots are pitiful, Galvatron. They hide like cowards, but I eliminated the last of them as I received your call.” Cyclonus reported, with a hint of disgust. He had a strong sense of honour and nobility. Galvatron nodded, then looked expectantly at Scourge.

“They fled immediately, and split up into pairs. Of course, this was no trouble for me.” Scourge looked very pleased with himself. He took great pride in his hunting skills. “What are we to do now?”

“Now that there are no Autobots on the surface to stop us from making it to the Temple, we can do so.” Galvatron explained. “I will meet you two there. Should you see any Autobot survivors, let none survive any longer.”

Galvatron’s lieutenants nodded and transformed, soaring into the sky and out of sight. Galvatron looked at a small building that had gotten by unharmed. Seeing it as a suitable way forward, Galvatron blew a hole in the building, then walked through it. He did not meet anymore resistance until he reached the Temple. It was a grand and beautifully crafted structure, with many arches and piers and buttresses and gargoyles, all made of gold and silver. The roof was domed and reflected the sun’s rays gorgeously.

In front of the Temple stood Cyclonus and Scourge, who each had an Autobot by the throat. They looked to be in the middle of an interrogation, so Galvatron stayed back. However, he quickly grew impatient, and blew the Autobots out of his lieutenant’s hands. They looked back in surprise.

“I almost had the ritual to open the Temple, Galvatron!” Cyclonus protested.

“We could just find another Autobot. I will have it done in a maximum of five minutes.” Scourge offered, keen to shows his skills again.

“There is no need for that, I’m right here!” A voice called out from the Temple walls.

Galvatron and his lieutenants looked over to see a well-built red and white Autobot pull out a rifle. Galvatron simply laughed, and motioned for Cyclonus to take care of him. Cyclonus nodded, and was off in the blink of an eye. He seemed to disappear into the shadows around the Temple as he moved, so the Autobot lost track. Suddenly, a dark blade slashed out from behind one of the pillars, sending a shockwave into the Autobot. The Autobot was thrown into the pillar, snapping his back. It was painful, but not lethal.

“What is your name, soldier.” Cyclonus, who had seemingly teleported to the Autobot, asked as he pushed his sword against the Autobot’s throat.

“Red Alert.” The Autobot confessed. “But you won’t be getting into the temple, I can guarantee that!”

“Yes, we will.” Galvatron said from behind Cyclonus. He pointed his cannon at the Temple and fired, sending the beautiful construction crashing down to the ground.

“No! That is a sacred Temple, Decepticons!” Red Alert tried to get up, but Cyclonus sent him crashing down with a simple kick.

Galvatron and Scourge climbed over the rubble and into the Temple, leaving Cyclonus to deal with Red Alert. Cyclonus looked into the Autobot’s red visor, and felt no hesitation, no pity. Instead of taking his life, however, Cyclonus turned and started to leave. Red Alert jumped up and tried to tackle him, but Cyclonus whirled around and sliced his left hand cleanly off. It dropped onto the ground, convulsing, and Energon and circuits leaked out of the wrist. Red Alert collapsed in pain, and Cyclonus left him there.

Inside, the cavernous main hall stretched high, the ceiling decorated with intricate markings of ancient nature. In the centre of the hall was a grand metal tomb: the tomb of Nova Prime. There hadn’t been a Prime since Nova, and that was millennia ago. Galvatron, with no hesitation, walked up to the tomb, and effortlessly slid the top off. Inside, the peaceful body of Nova Prime lay. Galvatron grabbed the Prime by his neck and threw him out of the tomb. Beneath him was a chest. Galvatron bent down and carefully lifted it from the tomb, then set it down on the ground. He opened it apprehensively.

A purple glow illuminated Galvatron’s face and drew Cyclonus and Scourge nearer. Inside the chest, a single, glowing purple Energon crystal was the only contents. Cyclonus pointed out that lettering along the sides of the chest spelt a warning, but Galvatron ignored him. He lifted the crystal out of the chest and pulled it into his torso. His body absorbed the crystal, and Galvatron began to shake uncontrollably. His eyes glowed brighter than before, and a purple glow could be seen in the gaps between his armour. The glow of his cannon changed from orange to purple. After several seconds, Galvatron stopped moving.

“Galvatron?” Scourge stepped forward.

“No, Scourge. Lord Galvatron!” Galvatron corrected as he turned to see his lieutenants. “Do you know what this is?”

“It is the Blood of Unicron, Dark Energon.” Cyclonus answered in wonder. “I thought it was non-existent until now.”

Galvatron smiled widely, then pointed his cannon at one of the Temple walls, and fired. A continuous blast of pure energy buffeted the wall, knocking it down, sending smoke and dust everywhere. Galvatron cackled loudly.

“This…this is the edge the Decepticons need to win the War!” He remarked. “No Autobot would dare challenge me in this state!”

“Shall I alert Lord Megatronus?” Scourge asked.

Galvatron backhanded him, sending Scourge into the debris. “Megatronus is a weakling, and a coward. He would rather make plans and co-ordinate attacks! This attack wasn’t co-ordinated, and look what has become of the great Autobot city!”

Galvatron and Cyclonus both looked out of the gaping hole the former had left in the front wall. The city was a smoking ruin, every building was either a hollow shell or collapsed. Fires flickered everywhere, sending smoke high into the sky and casting soft glows onto the darker parts of the city.

“This is what we accomplished as a trio, with no outside aid.” Galvatron grinned. “Now imagine what we could do with the power of the Dark God himself on our side! Decepticons, we head for Kaon. Megatronus’s leadership is reaching the end of its days.”

Cyclonus transformed and shot out of the Temple and into the sky. Scourge rose from the rubble and transformed, then hovered so that Galvatron could grab onto his wings. When his leader was safely secured, Scourge burst out of the Temple, following Cyclonus into the midday sky. They flew for several hours, all the while with no strain on neither Scourge nor Galvatron. When the tall, angular structures of the Decepticon fortress came into view, Galvatron laughed maniacally.

The Decepticon trio landed just outside the gladiatorial arena of Kaon, which had been constructed over the spot where Megatronus defeated 100 Autobots single-handedly. They transformed into their robot forms then walked inside. In the centre of the arena, Megatronus was standing across from a hopeful challenger. The challenger charged at Megatronus, but he simply dodged and used one of his swords to swipe the challenger’s head clean from his shoulders. Megatronus smiled, then his smile faded when he looked up to see Galvatron.

“What brings you here, Galvatron?” Megatronus called out.

“The time has come for a new Decepticon leadership, Megatronus. Stand down now, or I will take you down myself.” Galvatron warned.

“I will never willingly stand down, Galvatron. You will have to take my position from me yourself.” Megatronus unsheathed his other sword. His expression was deathly serious.

“So be it.” Galvatron smiled widely.

Galvatron charged at Megatronus, but just as the Decepticon leader made to use the same tactic as before, Galvatron rolled along the ground and kicked Megatronus’s legs out. He fell onto the ground, and Galvatron placed his own sword against Megatronus’s Decepticon emblem on his chest. Galvatron thrust forward, but Megatron batted the blade aside with his bare hand, then he shot Galvatron point-blank with his fusion cannon. The other Decepticon was pushed back, but no damage showed on his armour. Ordinarily, a blast from Megatronus’s cannon meant certain death.

Galvatron shot Megatronus with his cannon, blowing Megatronus’s right arm clean from its socket. In shock, Megatronus hesitated, and Galvatron used this opportunity to leap into the air, and aim a flying punch straight into Megatronus’s jaw. The Decepticon leader collapsed, and Galvatron picked up Megatronus’s own sword, then stabbed it straight through Megatronus’s chest. The Decepticon fell onto the ground, and Galvatron stood victorious above him.

“All hail Galvatron!” Galvatron roared.

The Decepticon spectators were terrified. They had never seen such power from anyone, and that power had destroyed their leader. The Decepticons were in the hands of a madman now. Galvatron walked over to the edge of the arena opposite the entrance, where a massive statue of Megatronus was erected. With a single blast from his cannon, the statue was blown into smithereens.

The reign of Megatronus, which had lasted barely two hundred years, was over. The reign of Galvatron, however, was just beginning.

Who said Megatron's dead? Thanks guys. I don't have an update, but I do want to give some voices and appearance notes for the characters.

Megatronus: less stylised Animated Earth design (same colours); voiced by Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn from the LOTR trilogy)

Galvatron: imagine Cybertron Galvatron but a lot thicker and with a tank alt-mode and a fusion cannon (colours are the same, with a little purple); voiced by Ralph Fiennes (Voldemort)

Cyclonus: Animated design with MTMTE proportions (dark purple); voiced by Alan Rickman (Professor Snape)

Scourge: G1 design with not-hot-pink nails and instead of bat wings, a cape (blue and white); voiced by Jason Isaacs (Ra's Al Ghul, Lucius Malfoy)

Soundwave: Prime design, no changes whatsoever; voiced by Paul Bettany (sinister version of JARVIS)

That's all for now, I hope this helps with the visualisation when reading my stories. Also, please note that these stories do not happen right after one another. There is a 200 year gap between The Soldier and The Mutineer.
