    Round 3
    What is Truth?

The Decepticon forces came back as fierce as ever, but Springer didn't care. He was too focused on his anger towards Delta to notice all the heavy fire he was receiving. Every face that brushed past him he imagined has Delta's.

"First them, then him. First them, then him!" he shouted out loud.

The Wrecker continued to kill every Decepticon that went by him. He was so blinded by his rage he failed to notice his fellow Wrecker, Roadbuster, on the ground in front of him. He charged forward with his head up to the skies, gazing at several air-borne Decepticons overhead.

"Get down here and fight you cowards!" he screamed. "Get down here and fi-umph!"

Poor Roadbuster couldn't have moved out of the way, he was still paralyzed from Tarantulus's attack. Springer tripped over him and smacked his face to the ground.

"You moron, get up!" the Wrecker Commander shouted.

"I can't! I'm paralyzed! I've been forced to lay on the ground and watch everything go down. Believe me, I've tried to get back up!"

It is important to note that Roadbuster was a very bellicose being. War was his life. When he wasn't fighting, he wasn't happy. For him, it was pure torture to have to lay there on the ground and not to anything as an epic battle raged on all around him.

"Gah! Whatever this stuff is that you're covered with, it's jamming up my systems too! I can't move either!" Springer cried out.

"Hey, guys, I can help," Delta said from behind. He had evidently been following Springer the whole time.

"Get out of here now, Delta. I don't want to look at you."

Delta shook this insult off and prepared to take the two Wreckers to safety. Right as he was about to reach down for Roadbusters arm, however, everything around him went silent. He looked around the battlefield and to his surprise everyone was frozen in their tracks!

"Elita 1, are you behind this?" he asked in the silence.

"She is not," replied a voice very unlike Elita 1's.

"Who is there?" Delta said, suddenly frightened.

"You do not know me, but I know you, Delta. You are confused about your past and desire to learn more about it. I can give you the answers you want. Everything will become clear to you if you come with me."

    "Who are you?"

"I am your creator, Delta. You are mine, but you have turned from me. You took to the teachings of one named Solus Prime."

"Solus Prime? I have never heard of him."

"Her. She took you from me and caused you to rebel. For your own benefit I wiped your memory from you, but now I am trying to bring you back to the fold. Come. Take my hand."

"Can you tell me your name, creator?"

"Yes. I am Unicron. What you have been told is all wrong. Primus, my brother, is a malevolent being who wishes to control the universe through the use of an avatar. A Prime. I can't let that happen."

"Unicron? No. Never! Get away from me!"

"You resist only because you believe the lies you've been told. The indoctrinations of Solus Prime run deep within you. Fight them. Fight them and come back to me. Look deep inside your spark. You are mine. Come to me now!"

    "Never!"

Delta grasped his fist into his hand and slammed them both into Unicron's jaw. He staggered back and then suddenly vanished. Everything around Delta went back to normal, but he noticed a change within himself. Deep down, he knew that at least part of what Unicron said was true. He was the spawn of the Chaos Bringer, and no heroic act or noble deed could change that.

    "Delta? You okay?" Roadbuster asked.

"Oh yeah, I'm fine. Sorry Roadbuster. Must've dazed off for a click or two there. Hold on."

    Round 3
    Incomplete Mission

Windraizor was left to deal with his teammates' death all by himself after Springer went on his rampage. He wished he could go back in time and save them, but he knew that was impossible. He also had to be careful with his own spark. Sure, it was the most stable out of the five Aerialbots, but it still could have gone off at any moment.

"I have to get out of here," he thought.

The Aerialbot transformed and attempted to fly away, but then he saw Elita 1 down below. She was struggling to keep the Decepticons at bay, but she was surrounded. Unless another Autobot came to help, she'd be dead within moments.

"Hang on Elita 1!" Windraizor cried out.

He transformed and slammed to the ground, offering Elita 1 his hand.

"Come with me, I'm taking you out of here!"

"Thanks Silverbolt, but I can handle myself."

"It's Windraizor, and look. I've seen enough of my friends die today. I don't want to lose you too. Now hop on!"

He transformed back into his jet mode and waited for the fembot to jump on. She hesitated at first but then realized it was probably a good idea to go.

"Thank you," she said with exhaustion in her voice.

    "Where's Orion?" he asked.

"He left in the Darksyde with Megatron."

    "Going where?"

"I think I heard the old Gladiatorial Arena."

    "Then let's go!"

    "Wait, what?"

"The Arielbots before me never finished their mission. They never saw to it that Orion properly handed off the Matrix to its next owner. I plan on finishing what my predecessors started."

Windraizor, even with Elita 1 weighing him down, was fast enough that he was able to catch up to the relatively slow moving Darksyde. As they landed on top of the ship, the two were shocked to see Braver mourning over his brother's corpse.

"Braver, what happened?" Windraizor asked. "Who did this?"

"One of Megatron's new soldiers did. But I could've stopped him. I should've.....gah I'm such an idiot. This didn't have to happen."

Elita 1 knelt down next to the broken Kakegawan and put her hand on his shoulder.

"It'll be all right," she reassured him. "It's okay."

"How can you say that when he's dead? I'll bet you two have never had to deal with something like this!" Braver snapped.

Windraizor bowed his head and frowned.

"I have," he said. "The Aerialbots just died in an explosion. All four of them. Gone."

"What?" Elita 1 said in surprise. "Wait, the storehouse--"

"Yes, that was them. Their sparks just couldn't take all the pressure and went off. Mine could too at any moment, I suppose."

    Braver was speechless.

"First Airazor....now them....." said Windraizor, trying not to cry.

The Aerialbot fell to his knees beside Elita 1 and Braver. It was almost a pathetic sight to see. Here were two seasoned soldiers, reduced to tears. Elita 1 would have none of it.

"Listen, you two, I know you're both upset. But think about this for a moment. Is that was Laster would want? Or the Aerialbots?"

    "No," they both answered.

"Exactly. They would want you to fight on! Now come on, we're here for Orion!"

    "Hey, Elita 1?" Windraizor asked.

    "What?"

"If you knew he was leaving, why didn't you board the ship with him?"

"He wanted me to leave for my own safety. Guess that didn't work out too well."

    "I guess not," Windraizor laughed.

It was good to see him smile again. The three now stood back up with the Gladiatorial Arena now in sight.

"Are we going to help Orion now?" Braver asked.

"Only if he needs us," Elita 1 answered. "I've got a feeling he won't though."

The Darksyde made its descent just outside the arena. The trio watched as Orion and Megatron stepped out of the ship and entered into the arena.

"Look at them up there, Orion. They came to watch you die," Megatron taunted.

Orion looked up and saw Braver, Elita 1, and Windraizor staring down back at him.

"This is it," he said out loud. "All right Megatron, I'm ready for you."

    "Good," Megatron said coldly.

"By the end of this day.....one shall stand....and one shall fall."

    Eye of the Storm

The arena showed obvious signs of decay all over. On the ground lay several rotting corpses of Sharkticons from an earlier conflict. The walls had crumbled to the ground and the seats for spectators were long since gone. The arena itself gave way to several cracks on its surface, resulting in a very rough and uneven terrain.

"Wonder what happened here," Orion thought to himself as he stepped over a decapitated Sharkticon head.

"Tell me, Orion Pax, are you aware of the rules of Aria-Bellum?" asked Megatron once they had both taken their places inside the arena.

"I do. Rule one: Aria-Bellum is single combat only. Neither combatant can receive outside help."

    "Good. Rule two?"

"Rule two: All resources within the chosen location for battle are fair game. Outside weapons, such as your ship's arsenal, Megatron, are off limits."

"I won't need them. Rule three?"

"Rule three: The victor gains possession of an artifact of the loser as prize."

"Yessssss.....this means that, when you die an agonizing death, I get the Matrix all to myself. Shall we begin?"

    "Thought you'd never ask."

Megatron began the battle by transforming into his dual headed tank mode and firing on the ground. This caused dust to fly up into the air, creating a smokescreen of sorts for Orion.

    "I can't see!" he cried.

In the haze, Megatron snuck up and bodyslammed Orion. This put the Autobot into a slight daze for a few critical moments, so he didn't fight back when Megatron grabbed him by the legs and threw him against a wall.

"Come on Ori!" Elita 1 shouted out. "Fight back!"

"Did you just call him Ori?" Braver asked mockingly.

"It was his nickname when we were together. Don't judge me."

"Guys, pay attention! Look what Megatron's doing!" instructed Windraizor.

Instead of landing another attack on Orion, Megatron built up some distance between the two of them.

"You know, Orion," he began to say, "I had your friend Trailbreaker captured so I could learn how to build force fields to myself. I suppose his presence became redundant to me when the blood of Unicron was introduced into my circuits. Now I can do so much more than anything you Autobots ever could have done! Observe!"

Megatron thrust his arms forward, sending a massive wave of energy flowing towards Orion. It pushed him backward and caused him to strike his head against a boulder.

"Oh, you can't die yet, Pax! I'm only getting started with my display of power! Yesss!"

Two dark orbs formed in Megatron's palms and he hurled them in Orion's direction. They exploded on impact, causing severe damage to him. He felt absolutely powerless to fight back. Megatron was winning.

"And there's more still!" Megatron bellowed.

Orion had had enough of his rival's boasting. He decided to simply ignore all of his aches and pains and try to go on the offensive. Megatron simply stood there, letting Orion get close to him.

"You won't win this one, Megatron!" he screamed.

The broken Autobot pulled out his blaster and tried to shot Megatron at point blank range. He gave a bewildered cry when the blast harmlessly bounced off of Megatron's exterior.

"Force field, remember?" Megatron chuckled. "It isn't so easy taking me down when we're going at it face to face, is it?"

Orion's mind flashed back to his battle at Thunderhead Pass. He had managed to catch Megatron off guard and even got close to killing him, but it was at the cost of his own morality.

"I didn't fight fair last time, Megatron, and I am truly sorry for that. But the monstrosities that you have done must be brought to an end!"

"Such herioc dribble! That's one thing I won't miss once all of you Autobots become extinct. Yessss."

Megatron slapped Orion away, knocking him on his back once more.

"And just so you know, I don't plan on killing you right away. I'm going to make this as painful as possible. Because of you, I lost everything, Orion."

"Like I didn't lose anything on account of you?"

Elita 1 watched in horror as Megatron began slamming his fists into Orion's torso. It was a brutal sight to watch, even causing Braver to look away for a few moments.

"He's killing him! He's killing Orion!" Elita 1 cried.

"I know but there's nothing we can do about it," Windraizor replied with an air of hopelessness. "He's honor bound to follow the rules of Aria-Bellum."

"I've never even heard of Aria whatever it is! There has to be something we can do! I mean look!"

Megatron's attacks were increasing in violence. Orion's Energon was splattered everywhere. Even still, Windraizor remained stonefaced.

"Don't you even care?" Elita 1 asked, almost hysterical.

"I have Silverbolt's memories, you know," Windraizor answered calmly. "I've seen something in Orion that I haven't seen in some of Cybertron's greatest warriors. He has this way about him, I'm not sure how to explain it. I think he refers to it as his fire."

"Well, Windraizor, his fire is getting snuffed out!"

    "No it's not. Look again."

The arena had fallen silent. Megatron's hands were stained with Orion's Energon. The poor Autobot's body lie quivering on the ground.

"Looks like we're almost done here. I didn't want to let you off the hook so easily, but it seems like you're just to weak to take what I have to offer. Pity."

The Decepticon leader stood over Orion's broken body and began cackling wildly. Victory was almost in his grasp. Soon, the Matrix would be his. Soon, he would have his rematch with Unicron, the only gladiator ever to defeat him in combat. Soon, he would regain his honor.

    "N...n...not so fast....M...Megatron," Orion stuttered.

Slowly, he worked his way back up to his feet. It was a miracle that he could even talk let alone stand back up.

    "This is not over...hnn..."

"You certainly are a glutton for punishment, Orion Pax. So be it."

Swifty, Megatron's fist flew towards Orion's face. To his astonishment, however, Orion managed to catch Megatron's hand and deliver a jab of his own to Megatron's jaw. Stunned, Megatron took a few steps back. It was as though he couldn't process what had just happened to him.

    "I'm not....gah...I'm not.....through with you.....Megatron. Not yet.....Now come on! Let's....let's finish this."

Windraizor just continued to stand and watch nonchalantly. Braver and Elita 1 were in absolute awe. There was no way Orion should've been able to keep fighting, and yet he was.

"There's the fire," Windraizor said, finally cracking a smile.

The sheer ferocity with which Orion fought would've scared a normal Decepticon stiff. Megatron, however, was not a normal Decepticon. With every blow that Orion landed and every blast that made contact, Megatron lost a more and more of his sanity. In short, he was blinded with fury.

"You'll never get the Matrix, Megatron!" Orion screamed in between punches. "Not so long as I live!"

"Then let's change that, shall we?"

Suddenly Megatron's fusion cannon was trained directly at Orion's chest. Before he could jump out of the way, Orion was blasted by the large gun. The Matrix behind his spark became horrifically visible, as Orion now had a large hole in his chest. He remained still this time. He did not respond to Elita 1's terrified cries or Bravers shouts to get back up. Even Windraizor finally lost his composure and went into a fit.

    Megatron, it seemed, had won.

    All Hell Breaking Loose

After all this time, Megatron finally had what he was going after. As he gazed upon the Matrix in his hand, he considered the fact that he was one step closer to his ultimate goal.

"I see you have upheld your end of the bargain. Nicely done."

Behind Megatron stood Unicron once more, now in fully solid form.

"You have done well," he said. "Perhaps you are worthy of challenging me once more."

    "Yes. Yes! Yes! Right now!"

"Very well. First, however, I will need my lifeblood back from you."

    "What?"

Suddenly Megatron noticed his armor melting off of him. All his new powers were being drained and transferred back into Unicron's form. He felt weak, very weak. Unicron bellowed as he saw Megatron fall to his knees. He even dropped the Matrix. The Dark Energon was for the longest time the only thing keeping Megatron alive. Now he had just barely enough in him to function.

"Oh yes, I'll be taking that as well," said the Chaos Bringer.

He took the Matrix and crushed it in his hands so that it crumbled to dust. Elita 1 watched with complete helplessness. With the Matrix destroyed, all hope for finding a new Prime was lost. Braver was tempted to run down and intervene, but Windraizor held him back.

"You'll only get yourself killed! The Matrix is gone, now we have go get out of here!" he scolded.

    "Without Orion?" Elita 1 cried.

"He's dead, but we're not! We have to warn the others!" Windraizor said with increasing urgencey.

The trio tried to board the Darksyde and leave but Unicron would not allow it. He wanted spectators for the grand show he was going to make of Megatron's death. With a wave of his hand, the Darksyde turned back into the rubble from which it was formed.

"Now what do we do?" cried Braver.

"I don't know anymore. I just don't know," Windraizor replied with agony in his voice. "Orion, forgive me."

Elita 1 caught a quick glimpse of Orion's corpse as the three of them were running to safety from Unicron. She noticed something strange about it, however.

    "Guys, look!"

Braver and Windraizor also got a good look at what Elita 1 saw. Orion's body wasn't moving, but his spark hadn't faded out yet!

    "He's alive!" Braver shouted.

"Yes but barely," Windraizor added. "And look!"

In the middle of the battlefield, Unicron threw Megatron around like he was a small plaything. He was truly more merciless than Megatron could ever hope to be. It was amazing that the Decepticon leader still managed to cling to life. This continued for quite some time until Unicron caught sight of Elita 1 and the others.

"Worried about your friend, are you?" he said with mock concern. "His misery shall end shortly. Once I'm finished with Megatron, the Autobot forces are next."

"Why are you doing this?" Elita 1 screamed.

"I live to destroy that which my brother has created. It is my purpose. For a time, the Matrix was the only thing standing in my way. Now that it is destroyed, nothing can stop me."

    "Nothing? Not even the Allspark?"

Swooping down from above was Starscream, Allspark in hand. He had evidently come alone, as no Decepticons appeared after him as backup. The Air Commander saw Megatron lying on the ground, not dead but very weak, and then gave Unicron a look of disgust.

"You're not supposed to do this to him. I am."

"And who are you?" Unicron asked.

"I am Starscream, Supreme Emperor of Destruction! With the Allspark by my side I will ruin you and Megatron!"

"The Allspark poses a threat to me. You do not. Goodbye."

Unicron waved his hand and instantly Starscream shattered to pieces, only to be rebuilt.

"Thanks to the Allspark, I can't die! Now fight me!"

"I don't have time for this."

"Well that's too bad!" shouted Megatron from behind.

Without Unicron realizing it, Megatron had managed to sneak up and ram his arm through his torso. Using his still functioning Fusion Cannon, Megatron fired. Unicron fell to the ground, defeated.

"Now then, Starscream, I believe we also have unfinished business," Megatron said, dusting himself off.

Unicron managed to regain his form and stand back up as if nothing had ever happened to him.

"You have done well, Megatron. Perhaps I have underestimated you. Our fight is far from over, but this round belongs to you. Farewell."

Before Megatron could fire his cannon again, Unicron dissappeared, leaving only Megatron, Starscream, and the Autobots. Starscream, though technically immortal now, was terrified of what Megatron had in store for him. He realized that having Allspark energy flowing through him only meant that Megatron could kill him again and again and again.

"You're a treacherous little glitch, aren't you, Starscream? You kept the Allspark from me, knowing full well that it could've turned the tides in the Decepticon's favor. You kept it hidden for your own selfish ambition, and I don't like that. Nooooo."

"But...Lord Megatron, you haven't seen what I've done with it! Using the Allspark's power, I've created an empire that spans the galaxy! I did it because you were not around. Someone had to take charge and rebuild the Decepticon's former glory! Surely you believe me."

"Foolish Starscream, even in death there is no rule but mine. Yessss."

Megatron placed his hand on the Allspark and instantly his strength returned to him. Starscream, knowing that things probably wouldn't end well for him if he stuck around, decided to transform and leave.

"I shall deal with that fool later," Megatron said directly to Elita 1. "For now, you three have my undivided attention. Yessss."

You Never Walk, You Never Run

The Cybertronian Archive was peaceful and calm, perfect for studying. Orion cherished this time of day, before anyone showed up. He had the place all to himself, free from distractions and interruptions. He finished his morning work and then picked up a datatrack he had been reading about the Quintesson Wars.

"If you need me, I'll be right here, Dion," Orion said.

"Thanks, I probably won't need you though. All I have to do right now is rearrange the Energon mining records. Some hooligan came in and messed them up, now they're out of order."

"A Hooligan you say? Wasn't he arrested a while back?" Orion joked.

"Haha, very funny. Shut up and read."

    "All right, all right."

The two then went about their own business as usual. Orion quickly became deeply engrossed in what he was reading. It was an article on Sentinel Prime and the origins of his catchphrase.

It was the third year of the Quintesson Wars. The Quintesson Army, being mostly comprised of Sharkticon drones and Cybertronian traitors, had the Autobot forces on the run. They had planned on enslaving the Cybertronian race for the benefit of planet Quintessa.

Sentinels' Autobots were losing hope quickly. Several were running low on Energon, many of their friends had already died. Sentinel Prime, however, never lost hope. He continuously rallied his troops to battle, even when the odds were stacked against them.

One battle looked particularly grim for the Autobots. The Quintessons forces had surrounded them and their ammunition was low. Sentinel had a large gash across his chest and his left arm was dangling by only five wires. He seemed to be on the verge of dying.

"Sir, there is no where for us to go," reported his second in command, Prowl. "If we advance, we talk right into Quintesson territory. If we retreat, the same result seems likely. Logically, it would appear that we're all out of options."

    "And?"

"Well, sir, what are your orders? What shall I say to the troops?"

"I wish to address them personally, Prowl."

It was on this day that Sentinel Prime delivered one of his greatest speeches. To this day, Cybertronian scholars recite it from memory and use it to encourage one another. It went as follows:

"My fellow Cybertronians, today it may seem as though were are all out of options. On all sides we see certain death. You have all sacrificed much already in the name of freedom, which we believe to be the right of all sentient beings. You all have fought continuously despite the fact that the odds are set heavily against us. You have given your all, and for that I thank you. Our planet as a whole has been under attack for far too long. The Quintesson warriors will not stop until we're all either dead or under their control. I have already asked a lot of you all, yet I feel it is necessary for me to ask you once more to join me in battle. I leave the choice to you, whether you wish to look death in the eye and press on or surrender and possibly escape with your lives. Perhaps a good number of you would even choose to live in safety under the shackles of Quintesson slavery. I, on the other hand, would rather fight and die than live with the knowledge that I gave up the freedom of the innocents of Cybertron. Now then, who chooses to join me in battle?"

"I would follow you to the Pit and back, sir," Prowl said.

"As would I," replied a heavily built soldier named Brawn.

"Same here!" replied one named Dogfight enthusiastically.

    "Me too!"

    "And me!"

One by one, the Autobots stood up and rallied behind Sentinel until everyone was standing. He had managed to talk every last one of them into going into battle, despite the fact that it meant certain death.

"Sir, what are your orders?" asked Prowl again, now with strength in his voice.

"Autobots," he said loudly, "transform and roll out!"

At those words, the Autobots entered battle and fought with more tenacity, more courage, more ferocity than ever before. They eventually turned the tide of the battle, sending the Quintessons running.

The collective confidence of the Autobots was restored. At every battle, Sentinel Prime echoed his phrase and it reminded the Autobots of their first miraculous battle. The Quintessons forces started to crumble until finally they were forced to surrender.

Through Sentinel's empowering words, the Autobots were able to do the impossible. His phrase, "Transform and roll out," became his battlecry then in the First Great War against the Destrons.

"Amazing, simply amazing," Orion thought as he read the article.

Orion was always in awe when he read of the heroic exploits of past Primes. Sentinel Prime, however, was his role model. He aspired to one day be a hero like him.

"It'll probably never happen," he thought to himself. "But if I could only meet him, just once, oh, I don't even know what I'd say to him!"

    "Orion, what're you lookin' at?"

He was so lost in his studies that he didn't even realize that Dion was calling him. He also lost track of time. Half the day had gone by already! He continued to go on reading until Dion went up and addressed him loudly.

"Hey, are you listening to me?" he said, grabbing Orion by the arm.

While Dion had successfully gotten his attention, Orion's mind was still spinning with thoughts of Sentinel Prime and other war heroes. He had always dreamt of one day meeting Sentinel face to face, though when his chance came, it turned out to be a total nightmare. Sentinel was murdered before his very eyes by Megatron, and he was sent on a crazy quest to find Sentinel's replacement. He lost old frieds but gained new ones. He had come a long way, but now it seemed like his journey was at its end.

"Come on, Orion, stay with us!" Elita 1 begged.

Braver and Windraizor had their hands full fighting Megatron, so Elita 1 was left alone to tend to Orion. He remained motionless, but his spark still refused to go out.

"Pull through, please, Ori! Pull through. I know the Matrix is ruined, you can't be! Only you can light my darkest hour."

    Nobody's Fool

It was becomming increasingly obvious that Megatron was more than a match for Windraizor and Braver. By some miracle they held on while Elita 1 struggled to keep Orion alive. He kept mumbling unintelligible gibberish, but Elita 1 took this as a good sign that he was till fighting to hold on.

"If only I knew what was going on inside your mind," she said with a quiver in her voice.

She could have never guessed what Orion was seeing at that very moment. He had returned to the Well of All Sparks once again, only this time Sentinel Prime was nowhere in sight.

"Sentinel?" he screamed. "Where are you? Show yourself! We need to talk!"

Orion was furious with his hero. He had been sent on a mission find a new Prime, which he took to mean he would not die before he accomplished said mission. He wanted to know why he was sent on a quest when he was doomed to fail.

    "Sentinel?"

    "Keep it down, will you?"

Standing before Orion was not the one he was looking for. Rather, it was one of the last people he expected to see.

"Dion! Oh, how've you been, old friend?"

"Dead, Orion. I've been dead. I gave my life for you, remember?"

"Yeah. I can never thank you enough for that. I would have loved to know how I could repay you, but I'm afraid right now it's too late."

    "Why?"

"I'm pretty sure I'm dead too now. Megatron destroyed me. I....I failed, Dion. I was supposed to deliver the Matrix....but I couldn't. I failed. I failed, Dion!"

"So, what, you're just going to give up?"

"What else am I supposed to do?"

"How about not letting our deaths be in vain?" remarked Slingshot, inserting himself into the conversation.

"I think you shouldn't give up just yet," added Metalhawk.

"I might not have been the next Prime, but someone out there is, and he still needs to be found," said Big Bang.

"I'm still mad at Megatron for what he did to me. Somewhat as to cut him down to size!" snarled Mammothus.

It was a strange sight to see, all those deceased Autobots suddenly surrounding Orion. Everyone who had given their lives for his sake crowded around to give him words of encouragement.

"Don't you see how many of us are still counting on you?" Dion asked. "We didn't just go ahead and die because we wanted to. We gave our lives because we believed that you could do this, Orion!"

    "But I'm de-"

"Don't say it! You're not to far gone yet."

"But the Matrix. Megatron crushed it! It's not like we can just get a new one, right? What more can be done, Dion? Even if I wanted to complete my mission, there's no possible way I could at this point!"

"What was that about the Matrix, Orion?"

Making his way through the crowd was Silverbolt, holding a very familiar looking artifact in his hands. When he approached Orion, he knelt down and delivered the Matrix to him. Orion, amazed at the sight of the Matrix before him, humbly took it from Silverbolt.

"So see those doors there?" asked Dion with a gesture. "The next Prime is behind them. Go on in and find him. Get going, we've waited long enough to see you finish this. Go!"

Suddenly the huge crowd around Orion separated, opening up a path before him. The doors up ahead split opening, allowing blinding rays of light to flow out. Orion could just barely make out the silhouette of the next Prime. He quickened his pace, hardly believing that he had almost acheived his goal. Once he passed the threshold of the doors, he got a full glimpse of the destined Prime.

"Are you surprised at what you see?" asked Sentinel Prime, suddenly appearing from nowhere.

"Sentinel, I....I don't know what to say."

Standing before Orion was the long awaited Prime who would light Cybertron's darkest hour. He looked confident, noble, heroic. He had an air of trustworthiness as well as experience. He was none other than Orion Pax.

"You have a purpose, Orion. You were chosen for a reason. The Autobots, they look up to you. You've given them hope when there was none. You live a life of mercy, compassion, and kindness, being an example for others. You spent all of your time looking for a hero to rise up and do what was right, never realizing that you were that hero the whole time. Now, you hold the Matrix of Leadership in your hands. Open it and enter into your new life."

Orion, seeing that he was now the only one of himself in the room once more, took the Matrix with both hands and slowly pulled it apart. The inner sphere of the Matrix shone with a light so bright, Orion could see nothing in front of him. When it finally stopped shining, Orion noticed that he was back at the Gladiatorial Arena. Elita 1 was now squealing with joy that he was not only alive, but all of his wounds were healed! The two of them looked down and noticed that the Matrix of Leadership was lying there, completely intact.

"Well, what are you waiting for? Take it," Elita 1 told him.

"Before I do...Elita 1....I want to thank you. Thank you for everything."

"Why are you thanking me? I turned on you when you needed me the most. I can never forgive myself for that. I'm so sorry that I ever doubted you."

"If it weren't for you, I never would have found the courage to agree to take Megatron on face to face. And if I never would have done that, I never would have realized my destiny. Thank you, Elita 1. Thank you so much."

    "Your destiny? Well what's that?"

Orion simply smiled and leaned forward. He embraced Elita 1 and they kissed for the first time since the time before Sentinel Prime's death. It was beautiful, passionate, innocent. Once they were done, Orion smiled wryly and told her simply, "Watch this."

The future Prime stood, took the Matrix in hand, and called out to Megatron. The Decepticon tyrant dropped everything, which in his case meant Windraizor and Braver. He sent a furious yet bewildered glare in Orion's direction, knowing that he could not stop what came next.

Once again, Orion gently placed his hands around the Matrix and opened it up, once again enveloping Orion in several rays of light. The fire inside of him that drove him to face Motormaster and the Stunticons and lead an army of Autobots into Thunderhead Pass and take a bullet for Terrorsaur came back again, this time manifesting itself in physical form. His arms and legs expanded and his torso grew larger. He was filled with the Wisdom of the Ancients and endowed with physical as well as spiritual strength.

"The Matrix only releases what's been inside of you the whole time," Orion heard the voice of Sentinel say. "Now go and light Cybertron's darkest hour. Arise, Optimus Prime."

    The Touch

Everyone in the arena was filled with a silent awe at what they had just witnessed. The Matrix had transformed the once humble records clerk into the new Prime. His entire physical structure had changed. He looked much stronger than he did before.

"He did it," Windraizor said in wonder. "He really did it."

"Looks like you've lost, Megatron!" taunted Braver.

"No. No. No! I refuse to accept defeat! I wouldn't care if you were the second coming of Primus himself! I'll rip you in half!"

Optimus did not respond to this threat the way Megatron had hoped. Instead of being filled with fear, he calmly walked up and looked the Decepticon dead in the eye.

"You've caused enough destruction for one day, Megatron."

    "I haven't even started."

Megatron then began to grapple with Optimus. He figured he could catch the Prime off guard, but he quickly found himself overpowered! He struggled to fight back, only to be driven to his knees.

"What are you?" he shouted in deep distress.

    "Your worst nightmare!" replied Optimus.

At those words, Prime crushed Megatron's hands. The Decepticon fell backwards in shock, his two hands now utterly useless. The Dark Energon keeping him alive was starting to fail him. If only he had the Dark Armor that Unicron had provided him before, he could've been able to fight back. Unfortunately for him, this was not the case. Optimus continued to damage Megatron beyond repair. He was missing half of his face, his fusion cannon was torn off of his arm, and his legs were horribly mangled.

"Please, Orion, no more. I beg of you."

"When I was in your position, did you relent in your attacks? Did you grant me mercy, or did you continue to destroy my body in an attempt to give me a slow and painful death?"

Optimus could have very easily killed him on the spot. Megatron was now powerless to defend himself. For the third time now, he found himself a broken, humiliated mess.

"Do as you wish to me," said Megatron.

He could not have predicted what had happened next. Instead of putting an axe through Megatron's head or an ion rival shot through the spark, Optimus extended his hand in mercy.

"Your crimes are great and numerous," he said with seriousness yet compassion in his voice. "Today I will not kill you, but rather bring you to justice. Now take my hand and come with me. We shall dress your wounds and then give you a fair trial."

"What are you doing?" cried Braver. "After all he did to you, don't you want to finish him off?"

"Let my actions serve as a lesson of forgiveness to you, Braver."

This made the Kakegawan think of Thundercracker and what he had done to Ranger. Perhaps if Megatron could be forgiven, then Thundercracker could be as well.

"And Braver, thank you for everything you have done," Optimus added. "You, Windraizor, and countless others were determined to protect me and make sure I saw my mission through to the end. Windraizor, where are the other Aerialbots?"

"They....they died, Prime. Their sparks became overloaded from the pressures of....oh no!"

    "What is it?"

"A huge battle broke out on the outskirts of Iacon! We have to get there, and quickly!"

    "Wait just a moment!"

From the rubble that once formed the Darksyde emerged a dark figure. It was at this point that Megatron remembered that he had found Optronix lying on the ground and took him onboard his ship. The doppleganger must have gone back online by himself.

"I'm not through with you yet, Orion," he said weakly. "Do you think it's fair that you get to realize your destiny, yet I get nothing? Less than nothing even. I've been banished from my own universe! I was once powerful, feared by all!"

"Perhaps it is your destiny to be humbled," Optimus said dryly.

"No, I am meant for greatness. If you are to be Prime, then I shall be your nemesis. Good cannot exist without evil, and you cannot exist without me."

    "I highly doubt that."

"I mean it. When next you see me, I shall be rightly glorified, and you shall refer to me as your nemesis. I shall be Nemesis Prime!"

"We shall not meet again. Whereas there is still hope for Megatron, I can see that you are nothing but unchanging evil, and I must stop you here and now."

Optimus quickly moved towards his nemesis with twin arm blades extended. His double was silenced as the blades cut him in two. Megatron tried to take this opportunity to run away, but Braver quickly subdued him.

"There will always be those who shun all that is good and choose to live in darkness. It is to these that we will show no tolerance, for they will never turn from their wicked ways. But we must never lose hope there is goodness in all Cybertronians, Autobot and Decepticons alike. The sin shall be punished, but the sinner shall be forgiven."

"Uhh, Ori?" asked Elita 1, still a bit dazed from his amazing transformation. "We probably should get back to the battlefield. I think there are a few people who would like to see you."

"Very well. Windraizor, take Megatron and bring him to the nearest Autobot prison. You may then regroup with Braver, Elita 1, and me, and we shall make our return."

    "Yes sir, Prime."

"I'm never going to get used to that, I'm sorry," Braver joked.

"Believe me, it will take a while for me to adjust as well! Now let us go. There is still much work to be done."

Well, I somehow managed to make this entire fanfic split into two timelines. The first one is the one that you all read here, and the second is on my flashdrive, and that's the official version. I've decided to end this fanfic in the official timeline, which involves having Optimus revive Laster and letting Nemesis Prime live, as they'll be needed later on. We pick up with Ironhide back at Iacon sending communications officer Blaster out to help Optimus with a mysterious plan of his. Here we go, just a few chapters left!

    Tortured Screams

“Ultra Magnus, I’m not sure how much longer our bots can hold out! What do we do?” a soldier asked.

“We keep fighting and hope Starscream gets bored with his slaughter,” Magnus answered grimly. “Hey, look up there!”

The attention of the Autobots shifted to the Axalon taking off in the sky. It gave the Decepticons just enough of a diversion to push the Autobots back even further. With the center of Iacon City in sight, things were starting to look very dark for the Autobots. Alpha Trion sent out as many Autobots as he possibly could. Even Trailbreaker volunteered to go back out and fight.

“Onward, Decepticons, and the day will be ours!” Starscream screamed.

It just didn’t seem fair. Starscream had been killed multiple times on the battle field, but his Allspark constantly resurrected him. He simply refused to go down. The Autobots, however, stayed dead.

“This is like the Battle at Hawk City all over again!” shouted Blacker over all the gunfire.

“I prefer not to think about it!” Delta shouted right back.

Not even the Wreckers could stop Starscream’s brigade from utterly destroying everything in its path. Springer and Roadbuster were finally freed from their paralysis, but it hardly made a difference. The fight raged on with the Autobots clearly losing.

"Optimus, look! It's the Axalon!" exclaimed Braver. "Blaster's here!"

As the Axalon descended, Blaster's grinning face became more and more visible. The ship hadn't reached the ground yet but the entrances were already opened up. Optimus wasted no time.

    "Hurry, Autobots, jump aboard!"

With a strong leap, the Prime made his way onto the ship. He then knelt down and stretched out his hand, helping the other three up. Blaster put the ship on autopilot and greeted his guests warmly.

"So be straight with me, ma'man," he said to Optimus. "Who were you before you became Prime? I just gotta know!"

Prime's faceplate retracted, once again revealing the youthful face of Orion.

"Woah, Pax! You grew up! Then again, I guess I'm not to surprised. The way you handled that craziness back at Thunderhead Pass? Amazing! I still can't stop talkin' about it! Yowzah!"

"Thank you, Blaster. Now if you don't mind, I'd like to know how long it will be before we get to Tyger Pax."

"We shouldn't be long, about a decaclick or two."

"Any chance of getting there faster?"

"I'll see what I can--hold up a click. I see something on the monitor I do not like!"

Everyone huddled around to see what Blaster was talking about. There on screen was a white tetrajet.

    "It's Starscream!" Elita 1 shouted.

The Seeker began to fire upon the Axalon, causing it to shake violently. Laster manned the gun turrets and returned fire on Starscream, nearly knocking him out of the sky. The Seeker was agile, however, and somehow he managed to survive. His null rays fired, ripping a huge hole into the side of the Axalon. He quickly transformed and entered the ship before the Autobots could gather their wits about them.

"Ah, Orion, what a coincidence meeting you here! My, you certainly have come a long way from how you were when we first met. Oh, it seems like only yesterday that I slaughtered your friend before your very optics. Good times, good times."

"You fear Megatron," Prime stated without batting an eye. "But you aren't afraid of me. Starscream, you should be very afraid. Autobots, stay on track to Tyger Pax. The two of us are going to have a little chat outside."

"But, but Prime!" Blaster protested. "Do you know how high off the ground we are? You can't just jump down!"

    "Who said anything about down?"

Within moments, Starscream and Optimus were facing off on top of the Axalon. Starsceam continued to wear an obnoxious smirk on his face, trying to throw Optimus off. The Prime remained stoic, his optics stern and demanding of respect.

"Why aren't you infuriated?" the Seeker asked, baffled. "Listen, you. I am the leader of the Decepticons, and I-"

"If you are leader, why do you cower at the sight of Megatron, even when you have the upper hand?"

"Oh, force of habit. Let me finish my speech, slaggit!"

"Very well, Starscream. Say what you need to say."

"For longer than I can remember, I have lived in Megatron's shadow. Every ambition I had, he shot down in favor of his own vision of glory. Even though I was his second in command, he treated me like I was a stupid lackey! Now Megatron is finally out of the picture, and I demand respect! I am going to kill the all powerful successor to Sentinel Prime, and generations to come will utter with reverence the name of Starscream!"

"You want respect, then you earn it."

    "I have the Alls-"

"The Allspark is a sacret artifact that you have perverted for your own selfish means. That is in no way worthy of any honor. You have build an empire for yourself, but it will crumble."

    "Oh, will it now?"

    "Yes, by my hand!"

Optimus then grabbed Starscream and ripped his wings off, throwing them over the side of the Axalon. Being infused with Allspark power, his wings regenerated anyways. This gave Optimus an idea. With his arm blade, he sliced right through Starscream's neck, cutting his head clean off.

"Pathetic fool!" the head laughed. "You can't kill me!"

"I had no desire to do so."

As Starscream's head tried to reattach to his body, he noticed that something was wrong. He couldn't move. Optimus had pinned his head to the ground with his foot!

"Let me up! Let me up!" Starscream begged.

"You lived a life without honor before, and that is how you shall continue it."

He calmly picked up the head and kicked the body off the ship, sending it hurtling to the ground. Optimus reentered the interior of the Axalon, still holding Starscream's head under his arm. Braver was in awe.

"You...you..." he stuttered. "You chopped off his head!"

"I wouldn't have done it if it were a fatal injury for him. Now, Starscream, we have things to discuss."

    "Like what?"

"Woah, man, that thing still talks? Crazy," Blaster exclaimed.

    "Starscream, where is the Allspark?"

"You'd really like to know, wouldn't you? Get me my body back. Then we'll talk."

"You will give us answers now, or else."

"Or else what, Prime? You'll kill me? Laughable."

"Uhh, guys? We're here!" Blaster announced.

    Optimus glared at Starscream.

"We aren't finished with this conversation yet," he warned.

Right in front of the Tyger Pax capital building stood Windraizor with Megatron in tow. He was surprised that everyone decided to catch up to him, and all the more when he saw Optimus carrying the head of Starscream.

"Good, you're here. Take this," Prime said, passing off the head.

"Starscream? What happened to you?" Megatron asked.

"I was about to ask you the same thing."

Optimus ushered everyone inside the building and directed Blaster to the main communications room.

"I need you to help me get a message out to the population, Blaster."

"Let me do what I do and then you can do your thing right afterwards, dig?"

    "Whatever you just said, yes."

Blaster worked quickly to hack into the computer networks all around Cybertron. The other Autobots did their best to help, but none of them were as good with technology as he was. He finished his work by linking in to Iacon's system and then began transmitting his signal.

    "You're on, cheif!" he announced.

Optimus stepped up in front of the camera and began his broadcast.

    A Farewell to Hatred

All around the planet, holo-projectors and huge monitors flickered on with the face of Optimus Prime. From any point in Iacon, one could see his face at least twenty times with nothing but a single glance.

“How did you do that?” Braver asked in astonishment to Blaster.

    “Shh, listen.”

    Optimus spoke.

“My fellow Cybertronians, I speak before you today to right a grave wrong that is happening all around our planet. I speak not of the war itself, but of the motivations behind it. Autobots, we have lost our way. In our bitter conflict against the Decepticons, yes, you Decepticons, we have turned our cause from one of justice and freedom to one of hatred and persecution. The Deception regime is a corrupt one, filled with cruelty and terror, but at least they know where they stand.”

The fighting in Iacon had once again quieted down, but not to the point of a full on stop.

“In the days of old, when Sentinel Prime was in charge, things were different. Autobots fought with honor and nobility. Decepticons fought with tenacity and cunning. Both sides saw the world differently from the other, but they still had a respect for one another, as they were all still fellow Cybertronians. War is never civil, but it was never meant to be as barbaric as we have made it. The war crimes that I see committed all around me today are almost unbearable. We as a collective race have lost sight of what’s important, instead choosing to maim, murder, destroy someone simply because they belong to the faction opposite us.”

Now all was silent everywhere on Cybertron. The planet’s inhabitants hung on Prime’s every word.

“I would like to show you all something. Windraizor, please bring him over here.”

All of Cybertron was shocked to see Megatron in stasis cuffs, kneeling before this mysterious Autobot. Megatron didn’t say a word.

    “Megatron, stand.”

    He stood.

    “Windraizor, the stasis cuffs.”

Soon enough, Megatron was free from his bondage. He wore a bewildered look on his face that was shared by every Cybertronian who watched the great broadcast.

“Many of you believe that Autobots and Decepticons are irreconcilable with each other. I, however, believe in forgiveness. Both sides of this war have done things they regret deeply. But the past need not haunt us. I, for one, say it’s time for a brand new day. I will fight with everything in me to light Cybertron in its darkest of hours, but I cannot do it alone. If we wish to reunite Cybertron, we must all be the light. As Orion, I admit that I was looking for someone else to do the right thing, instead of doing it myself.”

The sudden revelation that this mysterious Autobot was once the young Orion Pax sent shockwaves of awe and amazement through Prime’s audience. The humble historical records clerk had surpassed every expectation the masses had to throw at him, and now he was trying to do even more.

“Together, we can be the light. Even though I am the successor of the late Sentinel Prime, I am not the only one who can be a hero. We all have been called on to do great things. If we can put our pasts behind us, we can all move forward to a brighter future. Together, we can work towards a day when all are truly one.”

At this point, Cybertronians everywhere were erupting into shouts and applause. Everyone was in an uproar.

“Megatron, will you help me make Cybertron great once more?”
Optimus stuck out his hand, offering to shake Megatron’s hand as a gesture of peace. Megatron, with his eyes now filled with hate, slapped his hand away.

“Do you honestly believe a happy little speech is going to undo centuries of fighting, Orion? I thought that Matrix was supposed to give you the Knowledge of the Ancients, but you’re still as foolish as ever. Decepticons, rise up and attack!”

But Megatron’s words were in vain. Optimus had won the crowd over. Decepticons were dropping their weapons and retreating from Iacon’s borders. Several even surrendered with no struggle whatsoever. Megatron couldn’t see any of this, however, and continued to shout at the camera until Windraizor had returned with the stasis cuffs. The former Decepticon leader was then put into stasis lock and carried away. Starscream’s head watched smugly as his “commander” was dragged away.

“Some Cybertronians will never change,” Optimus lamented. “But that doesn’t mean none of them will. Blaster, you may stop the recording. I am finished.”

    Epilogue

The city of Iacon was intensely quiet now. All of its inhabitants were anxiously waiting for what was coming next. The Decepticons had retreated, the fires were quenced, and the injuried were already receiving treatment. All of the screens that were once aglow with the face of Optimus were now dark and silent. The world waited with baited breath.

Ultra Magnus was surveying the area outside of Iacon for any other casualties that needed to be recovered. Plenty of dead bodies were piled up, a fact that made it hard for Magnus to forgive the Decepticons.

"We contributed to the lose of lives today too, Ultra Magnus," Blacker had told him. "We all must own up to our own mistakes before we go and point out the mistakes in others."

"I suppose you're right. What about Soundwave though? What happened to him?"

"Soundwave still needs to be brought to justice. I know he still holds on to Megatron's teachings and will remain a threat to the peace. He got away."

"We'll find him, Blacker. I promise. Hey, do you hear something?

Both of them stopped to listen. What they heard was something like a murmuring that eventually grew louder and louder. It sounded like a crowd was coming.

"Hey, look at that!" Blacker said, showing uncharacteristic excitement.

Over the horizon, the two could see a massive group of Cybertronians advancing. At the head of this crowd were some familiar looking faces. Braver and Laster were standing side by side, vividly discussion something or another. Windraizor was calmly marching forward with a look of satisfaction on his face. Blaster was saying something apparently hilarious to Elita 1, because she was laughing quite a bit. It was the first time in ages that Blacker had seen someone so joyful. He knew exactly why she seemed so happy too.

"Blacker, is that who I think it is leading the crowd?"

"I believe it is. It's good to see you making it safely back, Orion!" Ultra Magnus shouted out.

Optimus ordered his following to stop as he went on ahead to greet his old friend.

"I see you have your armor back now," he said.

"I see you've found the Prime you were looking for."

"So I have, so I have," Optimus laughed.

"I guess you proved me wrong, didn't you? What am I supposed to call you now?"

"The name given to me was Optimus. Optimus Prime. And I assume I'm to address you as "Ultra" Magnus once again?"

"Hey, you outrank me now. You can call me whatever you want!"

    They both laughed.

"So what's with the crowd you have following you?"

"The Axalon had a system malfunction, so we had to walk back here. I guess a few Cybertronians saw my message and wanted to be there for me. It's funny. I'm a Prime now. I can more than easily handle myself, yet everyone still wants to look out for my safety."

"They care about you, Ori--er--Optimus. You mean something to them. So have you said the phrase yet?"

    "The phrase?"

"Don't act like you don't know. Sentinel's phrase. You know, the one I wouldn't let you say before?"

"Oh, I have your permission to say it now, do I?"

"Once again, you outrank me. I can't tell you what to do, Prime. You give the orders."

"What're you waiting for?" Blacker butt in. "Your public is awaiting your orders, Prime!"

As the three of them continued to converse, Ironhide came into view. He was coming to help out Ultra Magnus and Blacker. The war veteran had seen a lot in his day, but he was still stunned by the sight of all those Autobots, and of course by the sight of Optimus.

"Well what do we have here?" he said jovially. "Looks like lil' Orion's all grown' up! Good fer you, kid. Good fer you."

"I know I couldn't have done it without your training and support, Ironhide. You believed in me from the beginning, and for that I am truly grateful."

"Ahh, you don' hav'ta thank me, kid! I was just doing mah job. Now what was this ah'm hearin about you keepin yer public waitin?"

"Better tell them what to do soon, Optimus. They're getting restless," Blacker said.

"All right then, if I must I will."

"Will everyone please quiet down?" Ultra Magnus shouted. "Your leader has something he'd like to say!"

Optimus took a step forward and looked out upon the crowd. He saw Elita 1, smiling back at him the same smile she gave him back when they were both on the Darksyde. He saw Windraizor, the sole survivor of his original group of chaperones on his Matrix Quest. Windraizor was so determined to see to it that he finished his mission. He saw Braver, and Laster, and Blaster, and countless other Autobots, all waiting for what he it was he had to say.

    "Autobots...." he said quietly.

"Come on, kid. Louder!" Ironhide instructed.

    "Autobots!"

    "Louder!"

Now Optimus turned and pointed towards Iacon. This was his moment, and he was going to drink it all in. He was the leader now. All eyes were on him, and he would have to set the example for others. Every sacrifice, every hardship, all the turmoil, and it all built up to this moment. Finally he belted out the phrase he had wanted to say for so long.

    "Autobots, transform and roll out!"

The sequel to WDR will be coming soon enough, but there are plenty of gaps that need to be filled in. I've started a new thread, War Dawn: Extended, that sets the stage for Sparks of Valor and introduces the new cast in pairs. Stay tuned for more info!
