Sari and Rodimus Prime are fishing at Lake Erie. They are sitting at the foot of a dock.
Sari: “Having fun, Rodimus?”
Rodimus Prime looks at Sari and smiles.
Rodimus Prime: “Oh yeah, I’m having fun. What about you, Sari?”
Sari smiles nervously and nods her head.
Sari: “Yeah.”
Rodimus Prime nods his head and returns to looking at his bobber. Sari frowns and sighs.
Rodimus Prime: “What’s the matter?”
Sari: “Well, the fish don’t really seem to be biting today. I just hope you’re not bored.”
Rodimus Prime: “Bored?”
Sari: “Yeah, when you go fishing, you’re supposed to catch fish, and so far, we haven’t caught much of anything, really.”
Rodimus Prime: “So?”
Sari: “So, I’m afraid you might think I brought you out here for nothing, and that I’m just wasting your time.”
Rodimus Prime frowns.
Rodimus Prime: “Hey, come on, you’re not wasting my time. I don’t care if we catch anything or not.”
Sari looks at Rodimus Prime.
Sari: “You don’t?”
Rodimus Prime shakes his head.
Rodimus Prime: “No, I’m just glad I get to hang out with you. You know?”
Sari face lights up.
Sari: “Really?”
Rodimus Prime nods his head and smiles.
Rodimus Prime: “Of course. You’re a cool kid, Sari. Actually, you’re a lot of fun to be with. I haven’t known you too long, but right now, I feel like we’ve been good friends for the last couple million stellar cycles.”
Sari smiles sheepishly.
Sari: “That’s nice of you. Thanks, Rodimus.”
Rodimus Prime: “Hey, forget about it. I should be thanking you for showing me that all that trash the boys back on Cybertron are talking about you organics is just a bunch of scrappy smack. To tell you the truth, I kind of felt the same way about organics. Well, I did feel the same way, until I met you, of course. Organics aren’t slime spewing freaks. They’re just like us robots, if you think about it. They have feelings, hopes, and dreams. We’re all sentient beings, and we deserve to choose for ourselves.”
Sari: “Wow, that’s really deep.”
Rodimus Prime: “Heh, thanks, kid.”
Sari: “You know, I’ve gotten to know a lot of really cool Autobots over the last two years. When I first met Optimus Prime and his team, I always wondered what all the other Autobots were like. When the Elite Guard came to Earth for the first time, I got the chance to see some more of what Cybertron had to offer. The only problem was that I wasn’t expecting some of the Autobots to be such squares.”
Rodimus Prime: “Is that right? Huh, do you think you can give me some names?”
Sari: “Well, I definitely liked Jazz. He's the coolest one out of all of them.”
Rodimus Prime smirks.
Rodimus Prime: “Yeah, Jazz is definitely too cool for school. Anyway, I take it you weren’t too fond of Sentinel Prime?”
Sari: “You mean that blue jerk with the big chin? No way, I hated that guy. He was such a…well…humans have a word for people like Sentinel Prime.”
Rodimus Prime tilts his head.
Rodimus Prime: “Really? What is it?”
Sari looks around and motions Rodimus Prime to come closer. Rodimus Prime leans to the side so Sari can whisper to him. Sari whispers an unintelligible word. Rodimus Prime’s eyes widen. Rodimus Prime sits up and snickers.
Rodimus Prime: “Oh, wow, that’s really harsh!”
Sari blushes.
Sari: “Yeah, I know.”
Rodimus Prime: “So, what did you think about Ultra Magnus?”
Sari: “Well, he seemed like he took his job a little too seriously. He didn’t really seem to care much for me. It was almost like he…”
Rodimus Prime: “Couldn't deal with you then?”
Sari nods her head.
Sari: “Yeah, but how did you…?”
Rodimus Prime winks.
Rodimus Prime: “Let’s just say Ultra Magnus is a bit of a procrastinator.”
Sari: “Really?”
Rodimus Prime: “Really, really.”
Sari: “Oh, well in that case, I believe you.”
Rodimus Prime: “Really?”
Sari: “Really, really.”
Rodimus Prime chuckles and Sari giggles.
Rodimus Prime: “You’re a sharp kid, Sari. I’ll give you that.”
Sari: “You’re not so bad yourself, Rodimus.”
Rodimus Prime and Sari sigh. They return to watching their bobbers. Rodimus Prime looks at Sari. Sari looks at Rodimus Prime and smiles.
Sari: “What?”
Rodimus Prime: “I was just wondering, what’s it like being techno-organic?”
Sari frowns and looks down.
Sari: “Oh.”
Rodimus Prime frowns.
Rodimus Prime: “I’m sorry. Was that a little too personal?”
Sari forces a reassuring smile.
Sari: “No, it’s no problem. I don’t mind talking about it.”
Rodimus Prime: “Are you sure?”
Sari: “Well, sometimes thinking about it makes me feel bad.”
Rodimus Prime: “Well in that case, we don’t have to talk about it. Just forget about it.”
Sari puts her hand on Rodimus Prime’s leg.
Sari: “No, I want to talk about it. Really, I haven’t told anyone else about how I’ve felt about this whole “half human-half robot” thing. I haven’t even told my own father. So, if you don’t mind, I’d like you to be the first. Is that okay with you?”
Rodimus Prime nods his head and smiles.
Rodimus Prime: “I’m here for you, Sari.”
Sari: “Okay, it’s a long story, but…”
Sari tells Rodimus Prime about how she never felt normal growing up. She tells him how devastated she was when Porter C. Powell told her that there was no record of her existence at all. Her dad was missing, and Powell took over his company and kicked Sari out of Sumdac Tower, forcing her to live with the Autobots. She would cry herself to sleep almost every night because she had no idea where her dad was, and she couldn’t understand why there was no proof that she existed, let alone that she was related to her dad. When Sari was finally reunited with her dad, she found out that she was really a robot all along. For a short time after that, she was furious that her father never told her until then. In fact, she hated him with every fiber of her being. Sari then went on to tell Rodimus Prime about how she upgraded herself, lost control of her newfound power, almost killed Bumblebee and destroyed all of Detroit, and had to be taken down by her own friends. By the time Sari finishes telling Rodimus Prime her story, she is choking back tears.
Sari: “And ever since I recovered, I’ve just felt a whole lot worse than I did before I found out that I was part Cybertronian. I mean, sure, being half robot has its perks. Some people only dream of being able to do the things I can do. But really, I never asked for any of this. Sometimes I feel like it’s a curse. Sometimes I feel like I shouldn’t even be like this.”
Sari transforms her hands into energy projectors and looks at them with disdain. Rodimus looks at Sari with sympathy. Sari transforms her hands back to normal and looks at Rodimus Prime tearfully.
Sari: “A lot of times, I just feel like a freak.”
Rodimus Prime: “……”
Sari: “Who am I kidding? I probably am a freak.”
Sari snivels. Rodimus Prime gently sets his fishing rod down and scoots over to Sari. He puts his arm around her and pulls her close. Sari looks up at Rodimus Prime and shakes her head.
Sari: “Oh, I’m sorry, Rodimus. I’m so sorry.”
Sari buries her face in Rodimus Prime’s chest and breaks down into tears. Rodimus Prime pats Sari’s back and calmly shushes her.
Rodimus Prime: “Its okay, Sari. Don’t cry. You’re not a freak. You’re not. Don’t say that about yourself. It’s not true.”
Sari: “Yes, it is.”
Rodimus Prime: “You're only saying that because you feel so bad. You’ve kept this boxed in for a long time, haven’t you, Sari?”
Sari: “Yes. I know it’s wrong, and that I should have told someone a lot sooner, but how could I?”
Rodimus Prime: “What do you mean?”
Sari: “If I told my father how I’ve been feeling, what would he say? How would he react? I don’t want to break his heart or worry him sick.”
Rodimus Prime: “Why do you think he’d be worried?”
Sari: “As far as my dad knows, I’m the happiest kid in the world. If he finds out that I’ve been sad this whole time, what if he doesn’t understand?”
Sari: “Sari, he’s your father, and fathers exist for one special reason.”
Sari: “To raise you right?”
Rodimus Prime: “Well, that, yes, but what else?”
Sari: “To keep boys away from you and you away from boys?”
Rodimus Prime chuckles softly.
Rodimus Prime: “Okay, you’re getting a little bit warmer, I guess, but keep going.”
Sari: “To be there for you every step of the way.”
Rodimus Prime pats Sari on her head.
Rodimus Prime: “That’s right. Your father loves you, and if he’s a good father, he’ll listen to whatever you have to say, no matter what it might be. He’ll do whatever he can to help you. I’m sure of it. You do still love him, right?”
Sari nods her head.
Rodimus Prime: “Have you told him that you love him, and that you forgive him for what he did?”
Sari nods her head.
Sari: “I did, but it still hurts sometimes. It really does.”
Rodimus Prime: “Look, I’m no shrink, but it sounds to me like you need to come to terms with this whole “techno-organic” thing. Do you agree with me?”
Sari: “You’re right, Rodimus. I really should.”
Rodimus Prime: “Good. Now, I think the best way for you to start would be to accept yourself for who you are. It also sounds like there’s still some unresolved tension between you and your father, so I think you should be the better man and make an attempt to bury the hatchet once and for all. After that, I’m sure you’ll start feeling a whole lot better about yourself. So, what do you think? Can you give it a try for me?”
Sari nods her head.
Sari: “Okay. I’ll try.”
Rodimus Prime: “Okay. So, are you feeling better now?”
Sari smiles and looks up at Rodimus Prime.
Sari: “Yeah, I’m feeling much better now. Thank you, Rodimus.”
Rodimus Prime: “You’re welcome.”
Sari embraces Rodimus Prime.
Rodimus Prime: “So, are you ready for some more fishing? I mean, if you’re up to it?”
Sari wipes a tear from her eye.
Sari: “Yeah, I’m ready for some more.”
Sari picks up her fishing rod and casts it into the water. Rodimus Prime does the same. Sari looks at Rodimus Prime and smiles tearfully. Rodimus Prime looks at Sari and nods his head.
Rodimus Prime: "If you ever want to talk about anything that you'd rather not discuss with anyone else, talk to me. I'll listen. I promise. In fact, I'll give you my com link frequency. That way, you can talk to me whenever you need to, even when I'm not on Earth."
Sari: "I'd like that, Rodimus. Thanks."
Rodimus Prime: "Anything for a friend."
Rodimus Prime's bobber gets tugged beneath the water.
Rodimus Prime: "Hey, I think I've got something!"
Sari: "Reel it in!"
Rodimus Prime tries to reel in whatever's on the other end of the fishing rod. Rodimus Prime's fishing rod gets yanked right out of his hands, much to his and Sari's surprise.
Rodimus Prime: "Whoa, there must be some pretty big fish in this lake."
Sari's fishing rod gets yanked out of her hands.
Sari: "Whoa, what the...?"
A large black shape leaps out of the water and onto the dock. Sari and Rodimus Prime back away as the mysterious creature stomps towards them. Sari and Rodimus Prime get a better look at the creature and see that it appears to be an odd cross between a deep sea diver and an octopus.
Octopunch: "You spineless land lubbers, tremble before me, for I am the great and powerful Octopunch! I have journeyed from beyond the depths of this great lake in search of treasure. If you know the whereabouts of said treasure, I demand you to lead me to it now, so that I may consider sparing your wretched lives! But first, I must ask you a single question. Do you fear death?"
Sari and Rodimus Prime look at each other. Rodimus Prime pulls out his crossbow and takes aim at Octopunch.
Rodimus Prime: "Better than fishing?"
Sari transforms into robot mode and wields her shadow Magnus hammer.
Sari: "Oh, this is way better than fishing."
Sari and Rodimus Prime charge towards Octopunch.
