The add-on will give them more articulation and make them more of an action figure.. I guess more of an Action Master My plan is to "build" all the parts in Sketchup then upload them to shapeways for 3D printing and possible sales. This is my first 3D design project from scratch and also my first design for 3D printing so I'm crossing my fingers that it will work out ok. So far this is more or less a WIP but I'll update here as I move along in the process. The foot piece also doubles as the forearm piece, and all of the pieces have brick attachment points so that they can be built up on in order to add more "kibble". I'm working on making an articulated hand for this kit now, though I fear that it might be too small for any articulation but we'll see. This is my initial design sketch: ![]() and this is what I have so far on the knee, shin and arm/foot parts: ![]() Update: added image of hand parts ![]() Update: added full kit mockup ![]() ![]() :blog: :DeviantArt: :facebook: :Twitter: :ShapeWays: Last edited by WuLongTi; 02-22-2013 at 10:43 AM.. News Credits: 2 | thanks guys. fakebusker, I hope you don't mind but I'm studying your work as I'm trying to figure out how to make the hands ![]() Not copying though, as there's no way I can think of getting ball joints in hands of this size ![]() :blog: :DeviantArt: :facebook: :Twitter: :ShapeWays: |

I really wanted articulated fingers but I just don't think that's going to happen at this scale. I opted for an articulated "mitt" though, so the hand can open and close but the fingers are all a solid mass. The thumb can be attached to the hand in a couple of ways so the same parts can be either a right hand or a left hand. I don't have anything to lock it in so some glue may be in order. I also left one end rounded and one end squared depending on your tastes. I've designed the "fingers" so that a standard 0.75mm paperclip can be used as the axel. I figure everyone can get one of those easy enough or something that will work the same like a sewing pin or the like, right? The forearm piece is the same part as the foot and connects to the Kreon via the bar at the top. The Kreon's own hand becomes the elbow joint. ![]() ![]() :blog: :DeviantArt: :facebook: :Twitter: :ShapeWays: |

I'm pretty sure that I can work a "transforming" Optimus Prime with these parts, haven't thought too much about others but I'm keeping the ball joints at a consistent size so that these parts can be put together in new ways... like daisy chaining a bunch of shins together or something ![]() ![]() :blog: :DeviantArt: :facebook: :Twitter: :ShapeWays: |

Though you might consider making shoulder pads, so that the upper arms are a little more proportional. Other than that, this is utterly brilliant! News Credits: 2 | put together a quick mockup of how these parts will look on a Kreon. I'm pretty happy with it, of course the real test will be getting them printed out. I originally thought about making the ball joints the same size as the balls on the kreon so that those parts could be swapped around too, but I'm afraid that those sized balls will be too small/fragile for the knee and ankle joints :/ Otherwise I imagined shins being added to shoulders for increased bulk. I have a few ideas for a torso upgrade but at that point I think I'm just about crafting a full figure XD ![]() ![]() :blog: :DeviantArt: :facebook: :Twitter: :ShapeWays: |
