The add-on will give them more articulation and make them more of an action figure.. I guess more of an Action Master My plan is to "build" all the parts in Sketchup then upload them to shapeways for 3D printing and possible sales. This is my first 3D design project from scratch and also my first design for 3D printing so I'm crossing my fingers that it will work out ok. So far this is more or less a WIP but I'll update here as I move along in the process. The foot piece also doubles as the forearm piece, and all of the pieces have brick attachment points so that they can be built up on in order to add more "kibble". I'm working on making an articulated hand for this kit now, though I fear that it might be too small for any articulation but we'll see. This is my initial design sketch: and this is what I have so far on the knee, shin and arm/foot parts: Update: added image of hand parts Update: added full kit mockup
thanks guys. fakebusker, I hope you don't mind but I'm studying your work as I'm trying to figure out how to make the hands Not copying though, as there's no way I can think of getting ball joints in hands of this size
finished the hand parts. I really wanted articulated fingers but I just don't think that's going to happen at this scale. I opted for an articulated "mitt" though, so the hand can open and close but the fingers are all a solid mass. The thumb can be attached to the hand in a couple of ways so the same parts can be either a right hand or a left hand. I don't have anything to lock it in so some glue may be in order. I also left one end rounded and one end squared depending on your tastes. I've designed the "fingers" so that a standard 0.75mm paperclip can be used as the axel. I figure everyone can get one of those easy enough or something that will work the same like a sewing pin or the like, right? The forearm piece is the same part as the foot and connects to the Kreon via the bar at the top. The Kreon's own hand becomes the elbow joint.
This is rather genius, I'm wondering how this might enhance the "transforming" Kreons. I have a feeling it might be a really fun combination.
Thanks! I'm pretty sure that I can work a "transforming" Optimus Prime with these parts, haven't thought too much about others but I'm keeping the ball joints at a consistent size so that these parts can be put together in new ways... like daisy chaining a bunch of shins together or something
Awesome! Though you might consider making shoulder pads, so that the upper arms are a little more proportional. Other than that, this is utterly brilliant!
put together a quick mockup of how these parts will look on a Kreon. I'm pretty happy with it, of course the real test will be getting them printed out. I originally thought about making the ball joints the same size as the balls on the kreon so that those parts could be swapped around too, but I'm afraid that those sized balls will be too small/fragile for the knee and ankle joints :/ Otherwise I imagined shins being added to shoulders for increased bulk. I have a few ideas for a torso upgrade but at that point I think I'm just about crafting a full figure XD
Thanks, I've uploaded my model and it went through w/out any problems. I guess I'm all set to order the prototypes. I can't help but feel a bit nervous about pulling the trigger... I couldn't have started out w/ something simpler with out any moving parts right? hahah Looks like the cost for the full kit is going to be about $16 + shipping (at cost, no markup)... that seems a bit much to me for what they are... not sure where I can carve out some more material though... Is this a cost that people would be willing to pay?
this is freaking awesome!! you should make a version too without the pegs all over. a more smoothed out version, or at least with some extra detail maybe
The more I look at this, the more I want it. I think, though, that you should make the feet similar to the standard brick, in that it would have the "female" ports on the bottom to link on top of other bricks.
Thanks! I thought about doing that, but it would have to be a kinda generic looking leg rather than something that looks like an Optimus leg or a Megatron leg. The pegs and stuff are there to allow you to customize it however you want. Hopefully it works as well in practice as in theory. I've ordered my first prototypes and will let you guys know when I get them in. they already do! You can't really see those female ports too well in the full mockup or in the leg shots, but if you look at the arm shots there is a view where you can see them
I have prototypes! These arrived on my birthday and they fit awesome! I need to make a few minor tweaks to the knee connectors (shave off one of the pegs) and the hands. The hands had the column for the axle filled in with either support or WST material and I ended up "drilling" them out using the sharpened end of a straight paper clip. it was terrifying. I then cut pieces of paper clip to length and used as axles for the finger joints. It worked, but I can't expect anybody that goes for this kit to do the same so I'm going to have to work out another solution. I might try a half ball/recess friction connection but I worry that it will keep popping out. Other than that, this is working exactly how I wanted For those interested so far: Kreon upgrade kit by wulongti on Shapeways Joints are articulated enough for a 3 point landing (the Ironman pose) Standard Lego parts can fit the pegs for added customization The pegs all have a 3mm port along with the hands to accommodate the Kreon weapons/Kibble parts as well as the Cyberverse Weapons. The bottoms of the feet/forearms have female lego ports Parts easily removed and added to other toys
WOW! These are fantastic! You ever think of mabe doing a custom Omega Supreme helmet and chest piece for them? and then mabe alternate hands? This would be so bad ass as a Kreon Omega...
