Collection Count: Probably more than my fair share | I started off my drawing as a little kid trying to copy the artwork in my comics. I'd get down really close and copy every detail as best I could. Admittedly when I stood back an hour later I'd discover that the proportions had gotten lost in translation. I've still got some of my old artwork from back then somewhere of Superman and he looks like a deformed swamp monster. But it was okay. Getting right down to the details was a useful learning experience, even if the overall results were often off-kilter. Autobloke in everything but name. Drawing is fun. I'd turn out pages and pages of stuff back in the day of all levels of quality depending on mood and project. I'd do it more now too if I had the time and less injured hands. But I'm derailing the OP's thread. I hope he at least tries some of the suggestions and comes back to post them. It's much more satisfying to be able to produce a piece of work and be able to honestly say 'I did that all myself'. |

To design means to create your own original interpretation of the character from scratch. To simply draw designs that SOMEONE ELSE created is not your design. There's nothing wrong with drawing them, that's what fan art is but don't say that you designed them. Half of those designs are simply just direct copies of previous TF's from other series, as mentioned earlier, and you outright stole the design for Wheeljack from another fan artist. Simply recoloring most of the designs does not suddenly make them yours. Furthermore, simply because you like the designs doesn't mean they're going to work for your fan animation. Half of them aren't even POSSIBLE because you've matched up robot modes to alt. modes that they simply can't turn into, such as your RID Prime recolor into G1 Prime truck mode. Quote:

| I voted for Super_Megatron and all I got was this stupid user title. ![]() Join Date: Mar 2004 Posts: 14,663 Location: The Hammer, Ontario News Credits: 2 | Quote:
But I'll tell you what, I understand you're just getting started up, and copying someone else's designs is a good way to practice. The problem is, you won't get any better that way. At best, you'll only be able to copy that person's style, and do whatever they've already done, and you'll never get any better than that. At worst, you'll be nothing but a cheap knockoff of them. You NEED to develop your own skills or you won't get anywhere. So here's what you're going to do. -You're going to take a pad of paper, you're going to go outside, and you're going to find a car in real life that you think could be a transformer. -You're going to choose an angle to draw that car from, that you think best brings out the idea of the character you want it to turn into. -You're going to sketch the car, not trace it from a photograph or someone else's art. You're going to take your time and draw what you see in real life. Take your time, I don't care how it turns out, because this is likely something new for you. Whatever comes out will be fine as long as you do your best. -You're going to post this drawing here, not in a new thread, and you're going to explain in as much detail as possible. Why you chose the car, why you chose that angle, what you found easy, what you had trouble with, stuff like that. THEN, you're going to take one of your transformers toys: -Choose what character you want it to represent, if you want to use it for a new one. -Pose it in a way you think really brings out who that character is, and choose an angle to look at it from that does the same. -Sketch it the same way as the car, in real life, in as much detail as you can, putting as much thought and work into the process as you can. Once again, doesn't really matter to me how it turns out, so long as you try your best. -Post it in this thread, and explain why you chose this toy, this pose, this angle, and how things went for you. I'll give you a week to show signs of progress. IF YOU DO THIS, I'm sure there are lots of people who will give you useful comments on how to get better and get closer to what you want to become. IF YOU DON'T DO THIS, you'll show us that you're really not interested in becoming a good artist or transformers writer, and I will become a very harsh critic of you. I will make Autobot_Burnout seem friendly and generous by comparison. ![]()

There are many threads that have none to one comment. Here's a good thread to start at. BKZ718 Digibash thread
