I need to stop picking up figures because then I add new projects. The curse of Optimus is back. I just got a TFP Optimus RID figure and… no trailer. *sad face*

I have not been actively watching TFP so maybe someone can help me out here. Do they show the trailer in more than one episode? I'm trying to figure out what to have it do other than explode because, well, that's hard to model. What I'm thinking is to give it some G1 love and have it stand on end and split open. Other than that, it's a box. But darnit, it's Optimus's box so he should have it. I'm just glad the figure has a trailer hitch. :)

I'm open to suggestions, so hit me!

The actual Prime Apex armour is just a big fatsuit basically. (and I'm not exaggerating, it really is) I think he just means it'd be cool if you made your own design.

To answer your question about when Optimus used the trailer in Prime, he used it in Convoy and Partners.

How are you planning on making this a physical object? Because if you are panning on using Shapeways or have some way to buy this then I would be tempted... as long as it works for FE Optimus.

Ah I see. I just want to have a trailer for display, really.

OK cool, thank you. Yup, Shapeways all day long for the moment. I do not have nor have access to an FE Optimus.

The RID figure has a 29mm measurement to the top of OP's trailer hitch, and the trailer hitch hole is 5mm. If you or anyone else can supply measurements I'll see if it's possible to make it work for both.

OK here is a rough layout of what I'm thinking the trailer will do. Still a lot of details to work out but I'm happy with where this is going, especially after two days. :)

Currently the overall dimensions of the trailer are 62mm wide, 100mm high, 276mm long.

LOL thanks! I'm getting pretty good at hollowing out areas to reduce cost so hopefully it won't be horrible. If anyone has ideas on how to make the cost not epic I'm open to suggestions. I could take the length down a bit but I think it's already shorter than the show. I could also do just a simple trailer but I thought that would be boring.

With the trailer splitting open the only problem I'm having is what to do with the door. It's a roll up door in the show which is fine, but at this point the door would just be set to the side when not in trailer mode. Not my first choice but I think it's acceptable.

Clay render. Been working on the undercarriage. I'll be on the road in a week so I'm trying to get as much done as I can before that time. Everything is engineering pretty well so far. I need to work out the hinges for the sides and how some of the undercarriage pieces fit together.

I did upload a sample to Shapeways to get an idea of price... yeah, not so much. Working on alternatives.

Pretty cool. If I get a RiD Prime, I make price this out to see if it's worth it.

Will it be able to store RiD Bumblebee and Cliffjumper?

Optimus is the only figure I have from the series but I'll see if I can accommodate that.

~$160 before the modeling is even complete, and that was for WSF. Way too steep for a $20 figure.

Well, I'd store Hot Shot and Cliff.

Hmm, some Ebay money and I'd buy it!

I think finding a way to get the price down is a good idea.

PM me. This is a project well suited to my machine, and one I'd be interested in helping out with.

I'm GUESSING the largest part would fit on my build platform, so I thinik this would be doable, the large surfaces and such are also good for my 'bot :)
