    Done.

Thanks! The goal is for this to work with FE Optimus as well, although I don't has an FE Optimus. Hopefully with the help of you guys we can make that work.

Hey guys, I had a gig I was working and am back in town and just getting back into the swing of things. Working on adding details of the undercarriage to make the pieces fit together.

Also just about ready to order a Solidoodle 2 printer which will allow me to produce this as a kit for a much cheaper price than what Shapeways affords. I'm aiming to have the modeling done by the time I get the printer so I can start prototyping right away.

It looks impressive so far and I am glad people go to this extent with modifications / add-ons. Super cool!

Any thoughts about down scaling it to work with Cyberverse Prime?

Thanks! Hopefully the final piece will be equally impressive.

That would be a funny scene, Optimus rolling out of his trailer while Optimus provides cover fire. Gotta go deeper!

Thank you, I hope it comes together as planned. I'm waiting on an invoice to clear and then I'm ordering a printer, so that will be either tomorrow or Monday. I'll post updates to let anyone else who may be interested know what the latest is.

Actually, I had not even considered it. I only have one Cyberverse figure and that's Powerglide. I can see about picking up a Cyberverse Optimus and making that happen if that's something a few of you would be looking for.

Just curious if you had considered it or not, don't feel pressured into looking at it if you hadn't. I'd certainly pick 1 up it was available.

That's a really harsh price, but it looks great man.

I was thinking to lessen the damage will be to create only the important, detailed parts on Shapeways, and have the buyer cut out pieces of styrene or even cardboard to 'fill in' the rest. Have the Shapeways pieces be able to clip those panels together. You just need to provide instructions and measurements for the cut out pieces. Now depending on how much you can replace with styrene, this might lower the cost some.

I know, I know, it sounds like a complicated solution. LOL
The other way is to engage an third party to manufacture it. It's too pretty not to be made.

Yeah, that price isn't worth it, which is why I'm looking to buy a printer next week. Just think about what my DOTM trailer would cost on Shapeways.

Thanks for the suggestion. It's good, in fact a direction I didn't even think about. I'm trying to keep things as simple as possible while maintaining a good price. Even if I print it myself, it will come basically as a model kit for anyone else interested so it will still require assembly.

    Thanks for the compliments too!

Big Hache: Maybe we can do the big parts via styrene and then get some of the other stuff via WSF. What do you think? This would be a great display piece. ;)

NVM... I didn't notice FB's post... Dang it! :lol

We could try it, sure! Maybe as like a starter kit for the styrene enclined? Parts I can think of that would be more difficult to do in styrene would be the wheels and wheel wells, door, door hinges, rear bumper. What do you think?

Are the wheels snap on like Prime Knockout's? Also I really look forward to this and the DOTM trailer, I have RID Prime too and the figures a bit lacking, especially that awful powerizer gun

:lol  Great minds think alike, sir..

Everything else besides flat surfaces will be Shapewayed I guess...Using styrene to create something other than a flat surface will take too much time.

What I have for the wheels are a short axle that would need to be glued into place. I don't have knockout and won't be getting him as I'm not into his figure. The gun Optimus came with is... a retractable yard tool? I have no idea what it's supposed to be. Starscream has something similar and I didn't even take it out of the package.

Thanks for the support and I'll keep you guys posted.

Though really to be show accurate, you just have to test if you can fit robot mode Starscream in there [IMG]

    Hehe.

Well unfortunately there aren't enough joints in the RID Starscream figure's wings to even allow that. The figure is pretty nice in robot form except for the tail fins on his ankles. I want to fix that and add joints to the wings so I can make the wing cuffs for him. :D

I don't want to be a kill-joy (I've been secretly lurking in this thread, watching your progess with increasing interest), but it looks like someone beat you do the punch: SILVER TRAILER FOR TRANSFORMERS TV PRIME OPTIMUS PRIME (FIRST EDITION) | eBay

It looks like the seller has two versions of the trailer: one for the FE version of Prime, and one for the PRID version. It looks a little rough around the edges though. I'm thinking yours will come out better in the end. Keep up the good work!

Oh no prob! I've seen this trailer on another forum. It does look a bit rough but that's fine.

    Thanks for the compliments!

Also for anyone interested, I've seen diecast 1:43 scale tractor trailers at TRU that are near perfect size to TFP RID Optimus. The funny thing about one of them is it's painted to look like Optimus from the movies, so blue with red flames. If you want a more traditional trailer for your TFP Optimus this could be a viable solution.
