Shattered Glass Bruticus

I was kicking this idea around at work today. I decided to give the SG Combaticons the G1 Dinobot deco; lots of red, black, gold and silver. My rationalization is as such:

1. SG Combaticons are, like the Dinobots and their G1 counterparts, still a heavy weapons strike team.

2. In line with their combat role, they're inspired by ancient Roman gladiators -- I figured "Bruticus" sounded Roman enough. I think it also works in conjunction with SG Abominus; one is the paragon of strength and bravery, the other of philosophy and the arts.

3. Not only does the borrowed color scheme appear more heroic, but it's as cohesive as the G1 Dinobots are. This reinforces the idea that this is a good-guy combiner; Autobot G1 combiners tend to have good color cohesion, where Decepticon G1 combiner colors were sort of a mishmash.

4. This concept pokes fun at the whole "Dinobots don't combine" trope vis-a-vis the deco.

Anyway, here's the WIP. I think it gets pretty far just by desaturating the background and doing a few highlights.

-edit-

WIP part 2. There are a ridiculous number of layers now, and I fear I may be overdoing the detailing and highlights. Anyhoo:

-edit 2-

More or less final schemes. I'd like to do individual robot modes, but I would want to photograph them myself. I think it's fairly obvious what vehicle modes would look like, so I don't plan on 'shopping those unless I have a lot of extra time and/or continued interest.

I learned that it's really, really easy to make something look really, really tacky with silver and gold.

-edit 3-

And just one more to help the grey tones read better:

I dunno it seems too plain. I think they would look like SG superion but nice concept. Maybe spice up the limbs a bit?

definetly need a lot more color in there with it being based on the dinobots. for instance, the bruticus head is spectacular, but it sticks out almost like this is an unfinished piece

I think some gold to break it up will help the overall color palette.

Oh yeah, there will be more colors. It's just a WIP. For starters, I'm thinking going with a gold breastplate. I imagine the overall scheme will look more or less like Grimlock.

Ok great! Just wanted to ask before doing it! And yea, the Battle Gaia came out good, so I've decided to go full steam and make a few more decos with my extra Bruticii, and so far, it's looking like that could be a good one.

Your Battle Gaia came out amazing. If I didn't know better, I'd guess that Onslaught was cast in black plastic.

I hope my digibash turns out to your liking!
