Fan Artists . . . You Have Tutorials (and you may not have known it!)!

Hey guys, something I've been working on quite extensively for the Fan Art guys (and still doing so) is providing our community here with Fan Art Tutorials. Many of you already know about some of these, but many of you may not. This thread has the intended purpose of helping you navigate to where they currently are with instructions, as well as providing some instructions for you for future tutorials!

First of all, know that this is very much a "work in progress" (or "wip" for short, as kitbashers say ). This is simply where we are right now.

The process for you to get to the Fan Art Tutorials takes a few clicks, but it's nothing hard to do. Let me demonstrate:

1.) I know you came to the Fan Art forum, but all of the Tutorials are currently residing in Radicons. The first thing you need to do is click to get to the Radicons Customs forum.

Once you're there, you'll see a group of subforums at the top. One of those is our Tutorials section. Click this forum to gain access.

2.) You made it! Now you're inside the Tutorials area! Unless you're wanting to do some kitbashing, we need to get you to the Fan Art tutorials. We'll save kitbashing for later, so let's get started.

From here, there are two ways you can look for things. I recommend the first one, simply because I feel it's a lot easier to find something, but I'll show you both ways of accessing the current Fan Art Tutorials:

Method #1: Using the Table of Contents

Go ahead and click on the link to the "Table of Contents" as indicated here:

Once you do this, you will be taken to the Table of Contents for both Customs and Fan Art. Now, I know you wanna bash some Transformer toys, but we're trying to learn to draw, so we need the Fan Art Tutorials. These are categorized as "Illustrations/Digital Models", and are located at the bottom of the Table of Contents page [for not particular reason I might add]. Simply scroll down to the bottom of the page, as indicated:

As you can see here, every Fan Art Tutorial we have is alphabetized by title. Simply review the list, and click on what interests you!

That's it! I know it's still a tiny handful of clicks, but it's still pretty easy to find a tutorial.

If you're not satisfied with accessing it through the Table of Contents, you can always sort the threads themselves by prefix. Since the Fan Art Tutorials only have one prefix ("Illustrations/Digital Models"), you can still find everything pretty easily. Just make sure you select the proper thread prefix and click "Show Threads".

Note: Using this option only sorts threads by the date they were created.

Anyways, while this has been up for a while, but I wanted to make sure the Fan Art community is aware of it. The sticky thread for tutorials still remains, but many of those links are outdated. I've been trying to sort and resource as many as I can, but I saw that my efforts are better spent simply trying to resource new tutorials.

This leads me to my last thought here - YOU can submit a tutorial!

"How do I do this, Quaddy?"

Well, I'm glad you asked!

If you are wanting to create a tutorial, make sure you take photos of what you're explaining. Creating Fan Art is a very visual process, so we're already tuned in with our eyes. Show me how do to what you're doing!

Next, clearly tell me what you're doing. In a few brief words, guide me through your process, giving me your insight.

When you post your photos, please attach your images. Attaching images ensures your content shows up here. Photobucket or a personal blog are all great things, but sometimes bandwidth, moving files on a separate server, and other things are issues.

Also, make sure the filenames are in some kind of logical order. A string of photos titled "TFart_0001"; "TFart_0002", etc. are easier to sort through than say "SANYO0e7y9r45084pw2".

When you're finished, alert me about it. A pm or a visitor message with a link to your thread either in Fan Art or Creative General Discussion (CGD is preferred) will let me know that I have something to resource!

If you have any questions, etc., feel free to post them here or contact me.

Hey guys, just a little bit of an update since TFW2005.com just recently got a face-lift. The first post above is left there simply because some of the information is still valid. This post is just to show you another way to access tutorials.

First, if you're anywhere at all on TFW2005.com, you'll see the toolbar just below the banner. It functions as a rollover menu (as you've probably noticed). If you click Radicons, you'll see all of the options for that section. Tutorials still remains in this section, and you'll see it in the menu. Click it:

After you click this, you will immediately be taken to the Tutorials Table of Contents that houses both Customs and Illustration Tutorials. From here, simply scroll down to the bottom:

. . . . to get to all of the illustration tutorials we have! That's it! I hope you enjoy them!

Ok guys, here's a small update:

The sticky thread that's been in this forum for many years has been retested, resourced, and unstickied. You'll find the resources that are still useful in the Tutorials section here: The 3-D Rendering Links to Resources/Tutorials

To access this and other tutorials, simply follow the steps in the previous two posts here.

I would like to take another opportunity to thank Draven for starting that resource thread in 2003 (!), and for EVERY one who contributed to it. I hope that this community will continue to grow and grow!

Hey guys, just a very minor update:

I have split the Table of Contents for Tutorials up into two distinct sections Customs and Fan Art. I did this for a few reasons, mainly just one of allowing for an easier navigation experience for both Customs and Fan Art Tutorials. Here's a direct link: Table of Contents

Nothing has changed in regards to my first post here on how to access things. This is basically just something I did cosmetically to help

That being said, I really hope to see more tutorials from you guys!

Ok, so you can see from the first post that I've copied the Fan Art Tutorials ToC from the Tutorials section to here. A few items to note:
  • ALL Tutorials still reside in the Radicons area, as that is the original section designated for that aspect of the Creative area.
  • This ToC is merely a copy of my post in the Tutorials ToC. Clicking on any link here will still take you there.
  • This version of the ToC will be fairly up-to-date, but I would advise relying more upon the one already posted in Tutorials.

I hope this extra bit helps! Also, if you have some Tutorials you'd like to submit, by all means do so in the Fan Art section here!
