SURPRIZE indeed. :lol  Damn, that's awesome news. I'll definitely order a set as soon as I have a leader Starscream.

Since the minimum order is 20 or 25, does anyone want to go in on a few sets?

On shapeways, it says that you've recieved a set of SS hands in S&F. Is the plastic smoothe nd detailed or lumpy and washed-out?

    Hot Rod Hands update

Well, I apologise to keep you guys waiting so long for updates, but Shapeways is swamped with orders lately and samples took forever to come. But hey, crowded Shapeways = good for business!

Strong Flexible - The material held up well, and the finger articulation worked great. Details are not that apparent though.

Detail - The walls holding the fingers in are too thin for Detail material to hold, especially if you have remnants of uncured material stuck in the gaps. The finger walls on mine just snapped as I assembled them.

What killed (or almost killed the concept) is that the fingers are not strong enough to hold a weapon properly. His blaster just hung loosely from the fingertips, not good.

Solution #1: Increase the size of fists for thicker, sturdier walls
Solution #2: Combine several fingers together on one joint, the trigger finger poses independently
Solution #3: Create a set of replaceable hands, with solid "weapon-holding" variant that's one solid piece, and "posing" variants with all fingers available. It's just sucky I have to resort to this parts-forming trick. :(

Hot Rod hands will be put on hold for the moment while I think about it. Sorry guys.

    Starscream hands update

Yes I have opened up the option of ordering Screamer's hands. I've received my Strong Flexible sample and it works beautifully. Every finger and thumb held together well. The wrist joint needs a little super glue coat to strengthen it though.

In terms of appearance the details looked powdery, but details are still visible. (Pictures to come later)

I'm still waiting for my Detail sample, so I cannot give reassurance yet that the material works. Buyer beware!

Yes LW, some modding experience is needed to install the hands, like dremelling a hole in his forearm to accept the connector. I understand your concern about fragility in the connector. I was tugging and plugging the Strong Flexible+glue reinforced wrist ball joint yesterday with all my strength and there's no breakage at all. It's super strong!

    Others:

Good suggestion, dude! Let me muse the idea in my head a little...What does it transform into? A weapon?

There are other artists with awesome stuff in Shapeways, I recommend you check them out too! Anyway with prices the way they are, it's easy to hit the $25 target...

I should have other updates coming up soon guys. I'm just so busy with my other job I can only restrict my free time to weekend. Tough life!

Oh yeah, Thugger 3.0 is out. Works very well!

Swap-able hands are fine in my opinion, take these for example; 1/100 HDM-116 Gundam Mk-II Ver. 2.0 Titans Manipulators - these look cool!

Plus the dimensions of Rodimus' fist+socket+clearance area once in alt mode is really limiting and what ur trying to do - and don't get me wrong, what ur doing is bold and impressive - but maybe it just isn't possible at the moment, with the limited strength of the materials.

The option with fused fingers also works fine - I have a lot of models with this and they are sweet - just need to try and find a nice compromise to make the fingers look relaxed yet curved enough to form a grip once 'closed'.

Option 2 and 3 are your best bet.

Another option is to have the hands like what the new TF's are coming out with, like Wreck Gar, Kup and Jazz.

Good luck dude! I myself am testing the waters with this shapeways stuff - I feel your pain!

In regards to the Hot Rod hands, I'm totally fine with have the hands with the trigger finger moving separate from the other fingers, reminds me of the Alternator hands.

Thanks for all your tips and advice, and what you said are all true..Hot Rod does have a very limited space in alt mode, and grinding away pieces of him to fit in a pair of posable fists does seem counterproductive.

In regards to the new TF's hands you mentioned, do you mean the half-opened hands style? I don't have the figures you mentioned but I think they're similar to movie voyager Optimus. Yeah I was thinking of a hybrid design of that; to have half a socket in the main fist, but incorporate fingers (fused or separate) around the edges of the socket so we can still have some trigger finger poses. Let me mull over it a day and do some test cad we can figure it out.

I'll probably not try anything on Hot Rod for now (though I dearly want to) but do something for a character with slightly bigger hands.

    Thanks!

Hey if there's anyone who can make them hands look sweet on a custom it's you buddy! You even ordered 2 pairs that's sweet :)

Wish you good luck and do share with us your custom!

Or Gundam kotokibuya hands, it's a feasible solution. I was just being ridiculous and challenging the material for the Hot Rod exercise :lol

I was busy the last few days finishing a request (to be added to this thread soon) but I should be free-er now to concentrate on the bird cat and bat! Seems like there's a huge number of requests for those animals...

    Hey guys,

It's been awhile since I've updated this thread but I wanna make sure I have something substantial so show for it so we can have fruitful feedback and stuff.

Here's my latest WIP, after receiving several requests to do so. Many thanks to JK for passing me the reference pics!

    The Badbabebot
    [IMG]

She was designed to fit onto HtfD Terradive, but could fit onto any neck with the correct ball-joint. The aesthetics are (obviously) inspired from War for Cybertron, and I would like to hear comments if the style is close enough or should I tweak it somemore.

Also, do you think she should have an expression? Smirk, sulk, scowl, etc.

I should be attempting to incorporate some form of light-piping so that we can take advantage of the clear materials on Shapeways.

I *might* also wanna include her characteristic Null-ray rifle from the game, modified to fit onto her alt-mode.

    What do you guys think?

I like the overall design. the facial expresion is fine the way it is. I would like to see you remove the decepticon symbol so the head can be used for either faction

    Thanks so much SQ!

I hope so too...Or I'll just adapt the design if they have a new femmebot-ish figure in the future. Seems like not too many people bought Terradives...

I was just thinking of the Classics Starscream head. That couldn't work? The WF design is really close to that. Maybe there's a size issue...

Which Autobot femme is as cool as Susan? :lol
Will do that, or I just make a generic shield shape. I'm not even sure if it will appear anyway, even on Ultra Detail material.

    Awesome :thumb

    I need you help guys.

I'm designing hands for Voyager Starscream now. Would you guys prefer double jointed fingers like the leader class hands I did, or a single finger-piece will suffice? It is possible to do double joints at that scale. I'm just wondering if it's too needlessly complicated for a figure that size.

    Let me know soon!

I like the slipstream head but wish the lips were not as wide and more "poofy" for lack of a better term.
