    Hello again, Fakebusker!

Have you given any thought to giving FP Bruticus a chest wing shield that will be able to be plugged into Onslaught's (upside down) cab while in combined mode? Perhaps it could also double as a scooped cow-catcher type of ram similar to DOTM Megatron's Mad Max truck while Onslaught is in alt mode? I think that would look really awesome!

I realize you try not to make anything for third party products but I really believe every fan with FP Bruticus would be sure to snap it up (I know I would)! Just an idea. =)

That said, the hands for Leader Optimus look incredible! I just might pick some up for Striker Optimus if I can get up the courage to mod such a kickass (and pricy) figure. XD

thanks and keep up the awesome work!

I see that you're moving on to larger figures. I like that ambition in you. Keep it up and you'll go far.

About a month ago? Not a good thing for business, really, cuz it alienates all those not in the US and Europe, WHICH IS A LARGE PART OF THE WORLD. I'm just hoping the Shapeways CEO recognises the potential for aggressive growth in these markets and carry out some sort of expansion.

I suspect so...I measured the balls they are almost 0.25 smaller in diameter, which is almost a metric mile when you think about it.

    What makes you think I didn't? :3

Ever got your new underwear over Black Friday?

Thanks Omar. Not #1 yet. I'm still working on it.

WSFP is more expensive I'd like to save some costs, since I'm working on a budget here. Nope, I'm not changing anything on the Purrdator and I've given my reasons in the earlier thread. The only changes will be for functionality. Again, I'm not designing a Howlback.

    New underwear? :lol

    Thanks!

Thanks for answering, Daim. And yes, I do believe it should be the compatible. As long as the variants are using the original hand mold, the Shapeways ones should fit as well.

As in, you're waiting for a larger Thugger? :(

Yes, I have plans to update Starscream's jets...I want to make them slightly larger and with an extension arm to make them position themselves accurately. But it might be a few months before I can get on it, let's see how the current projects fare.

As for Bruticus's chest shield, it is an awesome idea and I don't know why no one else has done it yet (to my knowledge). I wouldn't say it is an add-on to a 3rd party set, since the shield only upgrades the Onslaught figure itself. Colour me interested.

I also like Timesynch's idea for ROTF/Energon Bruticus. Maybe even craft a bigger head to match. ;)

Regarding the Thugger's, so my wish for a bigger version will be coming true this Christmas??? :D  Legends or CV Commander sized?

Very awesome! I have way too many molds of Deluxe Starscream and none of the standard mechtech weapons they come with seem to match the figures very well. Definitely interested in a v2 of your boosters/cannon upgrades. =)

Nice on Bruticus. Guess I hadn't thought about it like that, and you're right, Onslaught technically is the Energon/ROTF mold by Hasbro so he is an official figure. I keep thinking Bruticus as being FansProject's baby since, hell, their add-ons really make that figure as a combined whole. He's just missing his chest shield (and perhaps a bigger head, heh; if it's one thing I can fault FP on is that their head sculpts often leave something to be desired, in this case, Bruti's head is too small for his body XD).

Do take your time, as I always look forward to the next cool thing you churn out!

    Hi guys!

I need your help and comments yet again...Have a look at these:

    Assembly: 13 pieces

Before I move on, let me know what you guys think!

Personally, I felt there's still something missing/weaker about it. I mean, there's not much I can do when I'm just emulating an existing design, a simple, cybertronian design even.

But when you compare the snitch to this:

    Assembly: 14 pieces

    Or even this:

    Assembly: 21 minus Slammers

There seems to be a huge divide in terms of complexity. I dunno, maybe I'm just expecting too much from that little pecker, but to you guys, are you happy with it? I'll be finishing up the guns and adding a few more panel lines and we'll see.

Fakebusker, i have to be honest here. I was scared to see the little thumbnail on your thread with the new Bird mold, as frankly i haven't sold enough of my v7 molds yet. :lol  But i'm not actually that impressed here. Usually, i come into your thread expecting to be wowed...this one just doesn't do it. It's...blocky, and the connectors you use look so...tacked on.

I'm not really sure what i would do to make it better, but at least have some...wing articulation? I know my birds have 3 points of articulation per wing, so they can both have in-flight and roosting poses. Aside from that...yeah, not up to your standards. Even i'm not tempted by this one, and i was this close to caving in an buying a Thugger. Sorry, just my 2 cents.

Criticism taken and accepted. What's 'caving in an(sic) buying a Thugger' have to do with the bird anyway?

Yeah, the original draft had the wings split in 2, but it ended up looking too long and I was trying to match the proportions of the reference art:

Adding a wing joint will thicken them to twice their size, and I'm already starved of cassette space. I'll see what I can do.

And yea, the original reference is pretty blocky indeed.

Ah, i see. You're going off the WFC art. My minions were based more on G1, so i didn't have any specific art for them i needed to take into account. I agree that adding a joint would be too thivk, they'd look like blocks rather than wings. My main gripe is just that the new bird doesn't have much complexity. It is simply folding legs, swivelling wings and a head. I mean, when i was designing my birds, i used up every amount of space by using articulated wings to allow them to fold. Granted, mine had larges wings and no such reference art, but still.

What i think you could do is raise find an extra 1.5mm under the wing, and make another copy of the wing underneath the existing one. Then, employ a swivel (simple peg and hole, at this scale) on the wing tip, to allow the lower wing section to swivel out, lengthening the wing without making it look too bulky. The slight drop to the lower wing section could be hidden partially by bevelling the top outer edge of the existing wing.

I hope that makes sense. I generally don't like to criticise your work Ariel, but this one just seems like...well, what i did when i first started designing. To be honest, i can't help but feel the detail is being used to hide a bad design, and though i know you have no intent of that, it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Maybe it's because i've been listening to Yuyu to much lately, but complex transformations just work better in some cases, and i'd say this is definitely one of those cases. i mean, i get that there are two swivels hidden in the torso which can see you facilitated with two ball joints, but i'm a designer myself, i know to look out for those things. For a regular fan, it just looks like a block with wings. I guess it's a trick of the eye, but then again, that's how stuff is sold, by tricking the eye enough to make it look good.

Oh, and i said i was this close to buying a Thugger, as in i like the look of your minions (though i like mine better, for obvious reasons  ), but unlike Thugger and Purrdator, this new bird looks like it hasn't been incubated long enough.

Hmm maybe the wings can slide into each other to close up more? By that I mean the ends slide into the thicker base of the wings? And also maybe some a port on top so we can have the laser cannons that sit on the g1 Bird?

I agree that Laserbeak/Buzzsaw/the bird does look simple and somewhat unfinished, but at least it looks like a bird and not a mutated brick-winged gorilla or something. Once again, it's simple, but that just looks better sometimes. In my opinion, this is one of those times, and after all, there's only so much you can do with a robotic bird. It looks great, well done!
