With an attitude like that, you should reconsider why you make models. New people joining in on the Shapeways revolution is great, because it should push you and others as a modeler/artist/customizer to become even better. Ultimately, you should have fun in making and sharing you work in this fandom. That is what will make us grow.
Peace guys

But V, that was well-written and thanks for that! You said everything I've wanted to say and more. Cheers!

It's Lionel Wong by fakebusker83 on Shapeways, but there's nothing on it yet. Apologies.

Hey Treadshot! I'm glad to see your comment and look to your advice.

Well, I maybe stealing customers (or not) but I believe having a lot of players in the industry leads to better choices for the buyers and healthy business growth in general. Also, I like to see artists in constant friendly struggles, it's the easiest way to improve ourselves. Besides, I have the skills, so why not put it to use?

That being said, these Thuggers are really tiny. They stand approximately 4cm tall (1.6") minus the back cannons. This is a sacrifice I have to make to allow them to fit into the chest cavity without relying on mods to Soundwave himself.

The 2mm dia. ball joints is surely an area of doubt and I want to explore the feasibility when the first print arrives. I had done a preliminary test print of ball joints of different sizes, and the 2mm ones *could* work with proper stem and socket design. A touch of super glue coating helps a lot too, but I hope buyers won't have to resort to that.

In terms of costs, total WSF material costs about $5++. I like transparency in pricing, but I would like to make some profit from this as well, so I'll openly state I'll charge (maybe?) $6 per figure if they ever come to print.
I have tested a Fremble set for Soundwave, and a Reject set. Fremble, with 4mm ball joints, is durable as hell. Reject, with 2mm ball joints, is utterly scary to work with. It's so fragile due to 2mm ball joints needing 1mm shafts, which are really easy to snap. I would say go with something along the lines of 4mm ball joints, as they seem much better for durability's sake.

I'm printing my Reject and Fremble molds each for...$6 iirc. I wouldn't go much higher than that, but that just me. Still, good luck.

And V, relax, I was being sarcastic.

Nice work! Loving the WFC style. Any chance of some altmode pics?

Kidding, in fact, I'm trying to make them as cheap as possible so that people can fulfill their dream of having thug armies marching across their desks...

Thanks man. I'm using Rhino3D, pretty good for NURBS modelling as well as low poly stuff.

I looked over my meshes again and I'm glad to report most of the structural joints (such as the legs) use 3mm balls with 2 mm stems, and the smaller joints are 2.5mm balls with 2mm stems. Slightly larger than what I originally claimed. The only dicey part will be the neck joint which is 2mm; in the end I may have to remove head posability, who knows?

Thanks for the tip!

oh wow. that's gonna be great filler for soundwave's boobs

dunno if all that detail will print though. i think someone made a similar type of thing before but they turned out so teensy that all the lovely greebles went to waste.

not-quite-edit : yup, here we go
designed for the same mold and everything, and shapeways got the general form alright, but the little things look a bit ill defined.

actual-edit: oh wait. are these for G1 soundwave or WFC soundwave? my brain is screaming to me that it's wfc because of the alt mode orientation, but now that i check again i don't see any mention of that >__>
fancypants deviantart. now with 300% more deceptive advertising!
