Sounds cool Astrakhan. I wish I could find a Tailgate here. The CJ mold is so cool, I could just see him tearing up enemies with missile launchers and guns all day long! :)

Also, if memory serves, you asked about the Avasor - Breacher Flipsword set, right? For GDO Springer?

I am told by Shapeways that my next order, including Avasor, will be arriving on the 10th of December, which is two days (not sure how that translates to your time zone) from now. When it comes in, I will test and if all goes well, release Avasor. :)

    FOC Onslaught Upgrade Kit

A common problem with FOC Onslaught is for the green blaster he comes packaged with to get stressed. The connections on his vehicle mode (to his arm) force the plastic further than it can take. That, and let's face it:

Onslaught isn't Onslaught without twin huge cannons!

The FOC Onslaught Upgrade Kit provides fixes to both these issues. A new Hinge Blaster and two Hinges relieve plastic stress with a new attachment point while Twin Cannons provide the firepower and silhouette Onslaught deserves.

In robot mode, Onslaught gets a new pistol and two shoulder-mounted cannons, surprisingly not from Swindle!

Twin Cannons mount on Onslaught using the combiner ports on his shoulders. They can also be handheld using the 5mm pegs.

Onslaught transforms into Combiner Torso mode, keeping both hinges on him. The Twin Cannons stack with his green blaster on his back for more firepower, and even the Hinge Blaster stows on the back!

But, why is it called a Hinge Blaster? And why the two superfluous Hinges on Onslaught's legs?

In Vehicle Mode, Onslaught takes his new Hinge Blaster and turns it into a new attachment point for the green blaster!

The 5mm peg hole lets the green blaster attach to the back, right between the Hinges! No more stressed plastic, no more attaching to those two fiddly pages on his arms.

(And yes, other 5mm weapons can be attached as well)

And in the spirit of Hinge Blasters everywhere, Onslaught finally doesn't aim downwards anymore! Unlike the original connection, which left the gun pointing at the ground, the new connection lets Onslaught aim up, up, up!

FOC Onslaught Upgrade Kit on Shapeways

The Hinge rotates through 360 degrees itself, only blocked by the vehicle itself and the ground, so Onslaught can aim all the way back at cars behind him if he wants.

When it comes to war, though, more weapons is always better! Arm Onslaught with his full complement of weapons and roll into battle!

Onslaught's Twin Cannons plug into the 5mm holes on the hinge pieces, above the Hinge Blaster. Other 5mm weapons can be attached here as well.

Looks good. I just don't like the hole in the pistol.

    Thanks daimchoc.

To be fair, the Hinge Blaster needs a hole in it to work, else the entire point of having a hinge would be wasted. Personally, I've always thought it more interesting than a regular blaster, and if it was good enough for G1 Blaster to have a hole in his gun, then it's good enough for me! :lol

Just a suggestion... Why not just include just a bar with that hole in it. The pistol can be mounted on main guns that Onslaught comes with.

I like that idea. It'll cost a little more, obviously, but it seems to me it might be worth the price, to have an extra gun in vehicle mode.

Quick question. Is it possible for Onslaught to hold these new cannons in his hand underslung? I don't know why, but I want to see him do it

Hmm...interesting. I look forward to how you do this conversion. At first I thought it was just superglue, but if a 3mm clip is involved, I'm intrigued.

    Thanks ryanlb. :)

Heh, actually the pistol was just a "bar with that hole in it". Of course that would work, but then what would anyone do with that bar in Robot and Combiner modes?

Treadshot never just settles for what works. It has to work and be awesome. A redundant bar would be a waste of plastic and money, plus it'd require a ziplock bag to store it in, all of which are what made the decision to make the Hinge Blaster you see today.

For those who don't like the blaster having a hole in it, well just consider it a "bar with that hole in it", except with a lot more detailing. :D  There's no law that it must be used as a weapon.

Aside from what I said above, the entire kit is built to take advantage of 5mm pegs like Onslaught. The vehicle mode can be armed with 5mm weapons, so or those who don't have enough weaponry on Onslaught, there are still 3 more 5mm ports on the original green blaster to fill.

Hmm...I tested that. It works, though I wouldn't say it works very well. While the Twin Cannons have long 5mm pegs, they needed to be kept a certain length to not obstruct the Hinge in vehicle mode. He can hold the cannons underslung, I just wouldn't call it extremely secure due to Onslaught's hand design using his thumb to form half the peg hole.

If the bar is flat enough, it could just fit under the main gun while in Bruticus mode. Or it can be an extension/addition to the pistol. The pistol with a hole in it just doesn't work aesthetically. Of course, this is just my opinion. It's still up to you, since this is your design. :thumbs2:

Thanks for the input daimchoc. Rest assured that I value all opinions that come into my threads and that none of my models are ever fully 'locked in'.

My current concerns are that the bar you suggest has no use in robot mode. The decision to make the Hinge Blaster in the first place was actually to conceal a bar; indeed the original kit had only Hinges and a Bar similar to the one you suggested. With the bar unable to go anywhere in robot mode, though, it was easier to make it into a Blaster. To store it behind the green blaster would also cause unnecessary rattling.

That said, if I get enough people wanting this bar, I will add it into the kit. However, I only have 1 person who wants this so far as opposed to at least 11 who don't. If the numbers change enough in the future, I'll add it in.

    Valipha - Breacher Cannon

No one else has any idea of how long my Breacher has been waiting for this. A small shoulder cannon was made for him what seems like centuries ago, and he's been waiting for a real cannon ever since.

Well, here it is: Valipha - Breacher Cannon

"A special operations variant of Breacher's cannon, Valipha delivered energy bolts silently. The cannon switched power for speed, with a camera lens disguised as a scope to ensure every bolt went straight.

Valipha - Breacher Cannon on Shapeways

Add in a missile launcher capable of firing twin missiles simultaneously and Valipha morphed into artillery, letting it rain warheads.

Valipha disguised one last feature. The back of the cannon didn't store ammunition, nor did it weigh enough to act as a bludgeoning tool. It held a c-clip, changing Valipha into a handheld blaster. Sacrificing accuracy for the freedom to fire in all directions, Valipha's handheld form was suited to close up fights, where aim wasn't such an issue."

And of course I'd never get away with making Breacher leave his cannons behind. Whenever he needs to go anywhere quickly, Breacher can pack both cannons onto his vehicle mode, ready to blast through any enemies in his way!

Hit people with it. Hold it in his hand like a club and use it as such?

Also, the Breacher cannons are cool. Too many cool things to buy on Shapeways. :(

sorry I was not clear. The wings won't use a clip to attach. The issue I had was wingspan in robot mode just due to where the wings get put, being able to fold fixes that problem

You can also hit people using a Hinge Blaster. Especially since the barrel is 5mm diameter at the end, you can actually hold it there and smash someone's head with it. :D

Thanks for the kind words on Valipha. :)

Cool. Glad to hear the extra hinge helped. I thought they seemed a bit wide in robot mode, those wings. Folding wings are so much better than ordinary wings! :lol

Can't wait to see Ailon on CJ. :)

Thanks WuLongTi. They were designed as Shoulder Cannons, so I'm glad they look good there. :)

Testing New White Lights: Gorilla Cartridge

Was fortunate enough to get a few new lights. White ones, finally! Been stuck with off-white and light-blue lights.

Anyways, check out the painted version of Cartridge Robot Beast:
