Greetings fellow Boombox-ites. This is my first post back on the forum in quite some time. A myriad of issues has kept me away from here, and I'm hoping to rectify that with a new entry. A few weeks ago, I was sorting out some collectibles for sale, and was heavily debating on whether or not I should part with my Lionbot set (technically a Voltron knock-off, but the quality of the diecast metal, and the inclusion of all launchers, missiles, and weapons make this a more desired set to some). I decided not to, and then the name "Lionbot" clicked on a light bulb. We have Aerialbots, Protectobots, Dinobots.....how about Lionbots, as in a gestalt team that merged to form Voltron? So here's my first entry. - Lance inherited more than just his name from his humanoid data pattern, he also inherited his penchant for dry, sarcastic jokes, and devil-may-care attitude. Since the original Red Lion drew its strength from volcanic environments and intense heat, this new Lionbot thrives in these enviroments as well. Ablative neutronium armor helps repel any damage these hostile conditions might inflict on lesser bots. He carries a powerful flamethrower, and can call upon a set of shoulder-mounted incendiary missiles in battle. Lance is also highly skilled at martial arts and melee combat, and sometimes will use a three-pronged short blade in close struggles. In lion mode, he can reach top speeds of 350 miles per hour, and can leap across great distances thanks to enhanced hydraulic struts in his legs. Background story At the start of the great Autobot Exodus from war torn Cybertron, several "sleeper" ships were commissioned under orders from Optimus Prime for deep space excursions. These ships were manned by a skeletal crew of Autobots, and carried hundreds of "blank slate" protoforms - protoforms with no pre-entered personality modules or attributes (gender, size, abilities). One of these sleeper ships had eventually made it to the far side of the Milky Way Galaxy, and passed through a powerful ionic storm that crippled the majority of the ship's systems and terminated most of the protoforms on board. Before entering permanent stasis lock themselves, the Autobot crew managed to isolate five surviving protoforms within a sealed bulkhead of the ship, and rerouted the remaining life support and power systems to preserve them. The ship then drifted for what turned out to be several million years. Finally emerging near the Arus system, the ship's remaining sensor palette detected a robotic signature approaching the vessel. It turned out to be another robot adrift in space - the defeated protector of Planet Arus, Voltron. The ship's sensor drone scanned the broken remains of the robot, and the remains of the five human pilots who were connected to it. With no pre-coded personalities or attributes in them, the new Autobots were formatted in appearance on Voltron's components, and the personalities and limited memories of the Voltron Force. Anyway, I'm working on Blue Lion/Allura next, and I am refining the background story a little more, which I will update as I make progress. Art was done with fine-point Sharpie and watercolor markers (I am not doing so well with my new pen tablet, so I went with what I am good at) Comments and crits are appreciated. (And I did not see anything resembling this while scanning the back pages, so if anyone had a similar idea, I promise I am not "Simmons-izing" your work) Enjoy!
seems like a damn good idea. I'm surprised no one has done before. Looking forward to the rest of the team
