In fact, "Limelight: Dreadwind" started as an idea I came up with about a year ago that I wanted to submit to IDW as a potential spotlight issue, but since I had a hard time finding an opportune moment to pitch it to Denton or Ryall whenever I'd see them at conventions, I figured there was no sense in letting the story go to waste, and so I might as well produce it myself.
I've got several more ideas for spotlight-esque stories I'd like to tell, but getting this book printed killed me financially, and so I highly doubt I'd be able to afford doing something like this again in the forseeable future. But then again, if I can ever manage to get that chance to pitch my other ideas to Denton and/or Ryall... | With the way I understand the comics business, it's quite hard to break into the business. Essentially, the best way to get a job writing a series is to already have written a successful series. Best of luck to you, but I also want you to know how hard it is.

Can you please try harder to get a job at IDW? Get that hack Shane McCarthy fired! Your stuff is so much better! ONE Dreadwing spotlight has more story than all 11 current issues of All Hail Megatron.

Sorry. But on the plus side, everything that was in the comic has been uploaded, so you don't have to worry about missing out on any content. Quote:

Can you please try harder to get a job at IDW? | Yeah, I've heard tons of stories about how difficult it is to break into comics. One of my big problems is that most of my professional writing up to this point has been for the stage (in fact, I recently posted another thread about a musical parody based on Michael Bay's take on Transformers that I wrote and which was produced at a melodrama theater in Salt Lake City), which really does nothing to help bolster a comics-centric resume. So honestly, it's no surprise that the folks at IDW wouldn't feel any urgent need to make time in their busy schedules to hear pitches from some small-time nobody whose work they've never read before.
For the moment, I figure the best thing I can do is establish a good reputation, and hopefully "Limelight: Dreadwind" can be a small step in the right direction. I even made sure to give copies to Denton and Ryall at Botcon, and Denton promised to read it after Nick Roche was gracious enough to give it a good recommendation.
So yeah, I realize full well that it's an uphill battle, but I'm gonna keep plugging away at it. Of course, if you liked what you read and would like to see more, I imagine it wouldn't hurt to drop Denton or Ryall a friendly email to let them know what you think. But it's entirely up to you. I've certainly got no plans to start up a letter writing campaign or anything of that nature.
Regardless, I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed reading it. I'm proud of all the amazing work Mike and Minttu put into this project, and I'm thrilled to see that it's being so well received!

I really enjoyed the characterizations of all of the Decepticons featured, especially the contrast between Dreadwind and Darkwing. My only gripe is that we didn't get to see them merge into the mighty "Dreadwing" attack jet. Anyways, this is definitely worthy of an IDW production.

Radicons and TFW2005.com receives a high volume of traffic, and some of our Radicons are working for places within the Transform fandom; just ask Hasbro and IDW Also, I really think you're on the right track with your attitude of "keep plugging away, and eventually something cool will happen". |

The art was stellar, the story flowed, the plot was priceless = good combo. Everything was set up and ran smoothly, you guys deserve a pat on the back and a beer. Thanks for your time on this (AND FOR FREE!), your boys need to be doing Spotlights. and not those cheese puff ones DWI craps out, I mean real versions from the heart and soul. |
