Those two anniversary Valks are hotness on a plate except for all the excessive tampos all over them. Nonetheless, I have them pre-ordered and may actually follow through on them because gold and black are awesome-sauce.

But the idea of turning this mold into Cyclonus is now stuck in my head, and I fear I may actually put that on my list of projects. And I often hesitate to do a $20 kitbash, so I truly fear for my sanity when I start considering a $200 kitbash.

I was thinking the same thing. They have always been so grossly overpriced that I will never buy one, however.

Oh, I buy them. Though I don't have a 19 yet, the anniversary model will likely be my first unless I fall ass-first into a big-ol pile of money before it comes out. And I think they're mostly worth the price of admission. They don't seem so much like toys and more have the feel of pre-assembled models. Which always makes me wonder why they don't offer them in kit form for a lesser price sometime. I'd be all OVER that action.

QFT. Even if had the money, there's so many other things I'd buy first. I'd love to see someone actually make that digibash a reality, but it seems unlikely that will ever be so.

Every post like this is one more "prove them wrong" point in my list of stuff to take care of through the next few months.

No guarantees, but damn am I tempted.

I think you're right. I have a VF-1 and VF-0 from Yamato, and they're awful. They're awful awful awful. I would feel more confident throwing my MG Sazabi against a wall than a Yamato figure.

I've heard the argument before, where these are collector's items meant to be displayed, but still. For $200, you expect something that won't fall apart due to nothing more than the forces of gravity.

To make a long story short...the figures are awful. It's like transforming an eggshell. The sculpting and engineering are complex, but that does not mean it's well thought out. Especially for my VF-0, the parts don't "hold" together; if I release my hand from the jet mode, the legs will spread open and the arms will unsnap and fall down due to nothing more than gravity. VF-1 and VF-0 always want to bend over backwards. If you've ever owned MP-05 Megatron, it's not all that different. Just pretend you paid twice as much, and you'll know what it feels like to own a Yamato Valkyrie.

That sounds like a solid plan in either case.

The ones I have aren't nearly as fragile as all that. Sure, they don't feel like they'd hold up well to throwing against a wall, but most of the time I don't do that with my figures these days. And my 1/48 VF-1J is really well put together. I've had no issues posing him, even fully loaded down with his armor: example. I mean, I understand that some people don't dig the adult collectible idea, but saying that they're like eggshells is overstating their fragileness quite a bit. Seems like the theory that you can't touch them without them falling apart comes up in every thread that mentions them, and I have yet to see proof of that in any of the ones I've bought.

They aren't for everybody, no doubt. But for those who really dig the complexities of the designs and don't mind not being able to throw toys against the wall, they're pretty nice. Even for the price.

Keep in mind this is coming from a guy who doesn't mind plunking down three hundred bucks for a resin Gundam model either, so maybe I'm just a little bit crazy.

I wish you would, I would love to see it. Just an FYI, Dirge's head is probably too small for that body. I'm pretty sure there's a way of casting parts and then enlarging the cast or some shit, though I'm not sure how it's done.

Man, if only I was loaded

    This tall:

Having not actually held a 19 in my hands yet, I can't be certain, but the mold does have a rather small head for the size of the body. And the head of the toy used for the digibash upthread was rather large for the body of the toy it came on. And I happen to have five of those wandering around the house in various states. Hmm.

Lord, Can you or anyone with photoshop skills do a digibash of a normal YF-19 into War Within Skyfire? I just got my 19 do to the striking resemblance in jet mode. I think this is my next repaint.

Just because of the design I wouldn't say it'll every look anything like a Transformer character really, but regardless, it's freaking gorgeous and the color ideas are cool!
