Thanks again everyone! The kind words really help inspire me to keep going with these. This Tarantulas turns into an actual tarantula instead of some stylized generic spider. As such he's quite a bit bigger, and thus somewhat of a counterpart to Rhinox -- who, incidentally, is a styled generic mammal in this universe, because... I dunno, perhaps the 'real world' people are some type of arthropod and so can easily identify a particular spider but think mammals all look the same. Is that a cape, or are they really his arms? Let's keep it ambiguous!
For some reason, this version of Tarantulas isn't menacing. In fact, he's kind of adorable. Like an eight-legged teddy bear.
Now that you mentioned it, yeah he kinda is adorable. The fuzz, the limp spider legs, the lovably dopey expression on the spider face that is his collar/neck, the lack of 'eyes' everywhere, all combine for a decidedly unaggressive design. I guess my bias towards spiders is showing. And I made his visor and eyebrow-crest extra "fang-y" too.
I actually think this guy makes a better Shattered Glass Tarantulas, given how fluffy he looks. Unless underneath that cloak he has a terrifying array of buzzsaws, tentacles and fangs. But I doubt it. And now I want a plush version of him.
Wow, these are really awesome. Great ideas, and beautiful execution. I especially like that last one. For some reason I'm getting a Yoda-ish vibe, he looks kinda hunched and cloaked I guess. I also find the parasite one particularly cool.
Again, thanks for the kind words everyone. I thought I'd wrap up this little project by revisiting the "reverse" world: As you may have guess, Dinocon's beast mode is inspired by the "Fighting Dinosaurs" fossil and Hailstorm by "The Ant and The Grasshopper" fable. Bugikin's a pill bug since that was the least intimidating bug I could think of (the gag here is Waspinator seems like a threat but really isn't, so his reverse counterpart would be the opposite). The colors are strictly swaps of the original's primary and secondary colors; the resemblances to Rhinox and Sky-Byte are just an odd coincidence. I severely doubt an official version could/would use "Murdamal"... but this ain't official!
