Did this a few months back... had an idea for doing a series of 30 illustrations to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of "The Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye" (1984). I was going to start with all three Seekers, Starscream, Thundercracker and Skywarp, in vehicle mode, before doing the robots and some more action-packed illustrations of the Cybertronian civil war, and some redesigns of my favs like IDW Spotlight Arcee (with a slight redesign). For this one, I was inspired by what was happening lately in the TF:RiD comics, where the Earth Defense Command allies with the Decepticons. Since Skywarp is black and purple with a golden cockpit, I had this idea of him taxiing post-landing on a friendly EDC aircraft carrier as the sun set, but compositionally it wasn't working so long as Skywarp was a pure black, as he was sinking in too much and the focal point of the image was getting lost. I had to compromise and make Skywarp more of a gray here. Sometimes this happens... you need to make compromises regarding what you WANT for the sake of what the illustration NEEDS, as not every idea that seems awesome in your head actually looks good once you get it out onto the canvas. Sometimes things don't work, regardless of how much you plan ahead, and you need to compromise. Hope my fellow geewunners won't hold it against me. I've been crazy busy lately and I've got a few commissions to finish up so I obviously won't get to finish all 30 before September 17th (the Anniversary date). However, I will try to get all of them done by the end of the year. Next up was going to be a Starscream jet like this one and then Thundercracker with Buster and Marissa Faireborn, but I'm kind of sick of painting jets at the moment and have no real desire to paint Thundercracker's gaudy red and blue paint job. I've been craving to get to my Cybertronian form redesigns of Elita-1 in robot and vehicle modes, so that'll probably be next on my list before doing Arcee. On my to-do list is also G1 Faireborn with Old Snake to cover the whole TF/GI Joe continuity thing. Might do a Verity Carlo but I don't know, it really depends on time.
