Just got this from my local comic shop. Not a bad read still not the nicest comic to look at and not exactly generous in content compared to mtmte but it seemed slightly more respectful of pre-existing continuity than others of this series and had some interesting morally grey moments so gets a pass from me.
Seems they're trying hard to make sure it does all tie in, and ties up the slightly more jarring aspects of the previous two series two. Wasn't a bad read, curious as to where it goes, always nice to see the Spoiler Quints too.
Now that I've read it, the only thing that I don't get is Omega. Why is he waiting for Nova's return? And after what Nova did in the 2012 RiD annual?
I assume because despite his misgivings about Nova, he *has* to obey the Prime? Or at least feels he should. At best its a tolerable explanation of where he was for ages..
Doh, forgot to post this when it went up this morning: Your Deadshirt New Comics Shopping List for: August 13th, 2014 | Deadshirt Pretty much more of the same. Ramondelli is definitely improving as far as layouts and action. Weird to see precipitation on Cybertron. Omega is definitely not being written consistently. Really looking forward to more of the Trypticon-Pentius THING.
^ Ok, that could be interesting actually. Maybe he was waiting for the Ark in order to shoot it the fuck down, but doesn't want to cop to that in front of the "new" Prime. Also, more evidence that Nova and Optimus were the only "true" Primes.
Sky Lynx's name was misspelled twice as "Sky Linx." I'm questioning whether or not Barber actually edited this. That said, it was OK. I'm looking forward to more Quintesson stuff Spoiler which is pretty heavily foreshadowed in Megatron/Trypticon's vision with the "battle of gods" and "death of races". , although I never read Monstrosity so I'm not completely up on where/how Pentius was involved prior to being implanted in Trypticon.
I for one am very excited for the return of Trypticon. Much needed after Metroplex receiving so much attention. Also anything with the qunits gets a thumbs up from me. Not a bad first issue but I'm not so sure about the art. the only spanner in the works is what people have already mentioned is Omega's explanation which might just be foreshadowing. 3.5/5
I was thinking that that might be a "Dynobots"-type thing. You know, they're not dinosaurs, so their name becomes "Dynobots", and he's not a lynx so...
Hate the inclusion of Omega Supreme, and just like the two series its waaaay out of continuity. I also hate that every other word is in bold, words that dont even make sense! Just like Autocracy and monstrosity, I can tell this will be painful.
I enjoyed this issue. I was very happy to see the story from the last 2 Mini-series to be continued, I was also happy to see the Quints. Trypticon / Pentius still functions, Grimlock and his Dynobot's have seemingly been cleansed from their draconic "cannibal" forms, I rather liked the interaction between Grimlock and Hot Rod. Looking forward to reading the rest of this series.
Eh... I really think it was just a mistake. He'd already been called "Lynx" in Autocracy and Monstrosity, and I don't see much reason for him to change the spelling of his name in the present; as far as we know, he'd never even been on Earth before recent issues. Not like Bumblebee used to be called "Bumblebii," after all.
This is already at a pretty iffy start. Hot Rod and Grimlock's conversations don't really tell us anything new about either character, and there's so much of the same "I don't like you: I'm hurt more than you" stuff that I can't say I wasn't bored by it. Optimus and Ironhide had some fun interactions, though the scene with Omega was completely out of continuity and pretty much pointless now that the Nova Prime plots are all said and done. The Quintessons are cool, and the Trypti-pentius is an interesting turn, but I can't believe they actually dropped the word "evil". The modern IDW Transformers has always focused on the grey between the black and white, and suddenly the Quintessons are supposed to be "TRUE EVIL" the only thing that made the scene worse was how Megatron spoke in third person. I mean, come on now... Also, did they really have no one posted there to watch Trypticon? Is that not important enough to leave a squadron there? As for art... well it's Livio, bad proportions, lots of colouring outside the lines and dark filters. He has a few good panels, especially the ones of Megatron, but other than that I have come to the conclusion that Livio actually can't draw expressions. Every time we see a character's mouth it is either deadpanned, cut off halfway, covered by the panel, or darkened by the shading. Same with body language, everyone's always stiff and standing like a G1 toy. The colouring looks nicer and clearer in some a lot of areas, but again... it's Livio.
IIRC dinosaur means literally "thunder lizard". so in cybertronian engrish does dynobot mean thunderbot, effectively? and the dynobots make up the lightning strike coalition, which all makes some weird etymological sense i guess.
