Omnius, RodimusJay, and myself all had the pleasure of interviewing the delightful James Roberts over the past weekend at Auto Assembly in the UK. In an episode titles "The Old Man's Back Again, or Another Interview with James Roberts", we discuss the change of Megatron to Autobot, magic ships, Brawn as Kenneth Williams, Erector, the use of the word refulgent, and numerous other things! You'll love it, we promise.

I hate listening to podcasts. Can someone write up the good bits?

Just finished listening and I have to give a big thanks to you three. That was a good listen before I get to bed here. Read a lot of interviews, but haven't heard one with James. Sounds very, very friendly.

I don't know if we got anything huge and brilliant and new from this, but it was an entertaining listen.

-The story of Megatron's defection is told again. He doesn't remember whose idea it was.
-More on the production cycle of the comics, and the monkey wrench that was Dark Cybertron (not in a bad way but bits of Remain in Light were written AFTER DC).
-In his mind there is no "what would have been" Season 2 because he was fleshing out his vague ideas as he was working on Dark Cybertron, Megatron's defection, etc.
-The Rodimus fake-out was a happy accident of the flashback structure that was introduced for Megatron's sake.
-His ideal roommate is Ratchet or perhaps Rodimus. He does not recommend bunking with Brainstorm.
-He supposedly is going to work Erector into MtMtE at the hosts' request. Apparently Erector cameoed in RG1 because our very own BigPete got to Simon Furman. Hey, getting into the comics is even better than the Hall of Fame, right? Gird yourself for puns.

Thank you, I will give this a listen! :)

I understand where you're coming from, but wouldn't you agree what you wrote is...kiiiind of insulting, especially for a first post right after the OP?

Somebody took the time to prepare, record and edit an interview for us, fans. :thumb  There are other ways to ask for a write-up other than basically saying 'I hate what you do, but still want the goods.' :)
Please don't see this as some sort of attack, not intended that way.

Erector's also in the Animated Botcon comic. The little guy's fame is rising.

So if I heard correctly, it sounded like Chromia and Nautica were originally gonna have gender-ambiguous designs, and a big twist would've been that they were actually female?

Also seems like he kinda hinted at more Strika-like fembots being introduced.

Pretty much this. Nothing universe shaking was learned but it was pleasant enough to listen to and even made me chuckle now and then. Roberts snores, apparently.

Would have loved the idea of a big ambiguous design gender twist but that would have been impossible with Chromia around. She's too well known a name.

I enjoyed listen to the podcast. Learn probably Ratchet is the safest room mate and Rodimus is a party animal into tearing his room apart. I would pick Perceptor less likely to use as an experiment. Great for theories.

Nah, Rung would be the safest option. Perceptor wouldn't experiment on you but he would talk science at you for hours and hours!

I would pick Swerve. The poor guy is looking for a roomie and anyone who can came up with the word 'Crewditions' is a genius.

I'd totally pick Perceptor. For this very reason.

I think after Nick's drawing of what Rodimus gets up to when Megatron is asleep, he may not be the best roommate choice either.

    Fun interview guys, thanks :)

I was very interested in that part. To bad they didn't go that route.

In my mind, if MTMTE was ever to become an animated show, I'd actually have it where Male AND FEMALE voice actors voiced the bots.

Ok...yeah...I know....obviouse,but this is my meaning. This idea came to me before the full on introduction of the female bots, and since the TFs were gender ambiguous anyway, why not have say Swerve have a male voice, but Blaster have a female voice?

This idea is dead now with the intro of actual female bots

It sort of sounds like Roberts says Hound dies next issue at around 0:16:13, doesn't it? I couldn't really make out the words but hopefully he mentioned it as a hypothetical situation.

We need a thread of just sketches and art from comic artists! Those look amazing!

    Also, good podcast!
