From reviews I've read, it does sound like Rattrap is based more off of Rattletrap from Animated than his BW incarnation.

Yeah guys Rattrap wasn't very much like Rattrap before his character development kicked in. Pretty early in Season 1 he goes from the worst character on the team to one of the best. Really it's his fake defection that seals the deal.

But it does fit with the overly selfish character that Rattrap started out as. Ratters was always about putting himself first before anyone else.

It may not be forgivable but it won't be forgettable that much is sure.

From the preview it looks like Dirge is going to get more love in this issue. Looking forward to reading more. :)

That is the lamest attempt at trolling ever.

Don't waste your time, Digilaut. Dude's already tripped on himself like Curly in a banana peel repository.

I mean, he shot his foot dead when he said you can't tell who the characters are. MTMTE, at worst, tweaks proportions but are no more altered than anyone in RID sporting generi-bad game designs. Everyone still looks like who they are. Even Chromedome. His head is baely changed and his colouring andd style still evokes his typical design despite the massive shoulder wheels.

The only other case I can think of is Rodmus, but Rodimus has had this general look of yellow/orange forehead crest and lean proportions for quite some time now, even in Animated. In fact, he's closer than his last body to his typical appearence.

Which is implying they should look like their typical appearences, which they don't. They changed the designs, but improved them. Chromedome is far more iconic in this body than the exceedingly generic G1 body with no real discernable design elements besides "is brown." Ditto Rodimus, who without his soiler, flame chest and arm pipes (things his MTMTE design still have) would be just as generic if not more. He'd look like a background cartoon charatcer, y'know the ones that were all rounded and lacked lots of defining design elements compare dto the blocky toy-based characters.

And those are really the only two characters a case could POSSIBLY be made against. Everyone else is just their G1 selves with minor tweaks. Swerve looks just like Swerve, Rewind looks just like Rewind, Cyclonus, Ratchet, Magnus, etc.

I'll admit to initially feeling the same way (to a certain extent) as "O.Supreme" when I first started reading MTMTE. It took some time getting used to the characters and panel layouts, as trying to determine what was going on and who was actually in the panels could be tedious at times. It kind of took away from the story at the time. However, it's something I adapted to over time and is no longer an issue for me. It was never a problem with RID, but - then again - I don't care for the art as much with this book (though issues #17 & #19 were better). Anyway, I like both titles for different reasons, and I'm looking forward to tomorrow's issue of RID.

It could also be biological, there are people who have condition that they have a hard time recognizing anything. My mother had a problem with peoples faces. Some people might have the problem with MTME's artwork style. The style itself easily makes it hard for people who uses other aspects like color, style to differentiate others.

So, I'm new to buying these digitally. Is there a particular time of day when these appear on Comixology?

    Read it.

Not really much to say about it, it's just a filler issue with nothing paticulary interesting happening that only serves to set up future plot-points like Starscream's new body and stuff...meh....

Well from a Drama point, this issue delivers some good things.

Starscream's new body, Rattrap smells, Dirge grew a pair, and Wheeljack is alive and has a head (somehow)
. So when somebody says they aren't getting entertainment from this build up to Dark Cybertron, don't worry. Shit is about to hit the fan. The last 3 issues are happening simultaneously in time, so what happened to Orion, Bee, and Screamers they are all about to come together.

I too did not see that ending coming, although I had wanted it to happen/Thought it would happen.

RiD is a totally different approach than MtMtE. I am appreciative of both styles of story telling, the Space Travel Religious Drama in MtMtE, and the Political Social Drama in RiD. Each book has something to offer and has given life to characters that were kinda bland before in the IDW continuity.

As a Starscream fan, I have nothing to complain about here. IDW's Starscream has gone from a lame and rote interpretation of the character to one of the best. He's starting to show a knack for picking subordinates, one of the defining traits of an effective leader and which he was never able to do even when "leading" the Decepticons. I really enjoy the Machiavellian logic behind everything he does, and the way he ends up on top even with everyone crapping on him.

Also goodgod he just loves earning beatings from Megatron right?

Last panel surprise: I'm kind of ambivalent. Yes he's an amazing character, but wow how the hell do you kill a Cybertronian in this universe? And are they just not willing to let popular characters die unexpectedly? Still, good potential for drama here, because he'll probably want to leave the city and there's no way in hell Starscream can let him.

I'm thinking Barber and Roberts both pull the hard to kill thing from Beast Wars. I mean how hard was it to kill anybody in that series. You had to throw a lot at them and Waspinator could give the Energizer Bunny pointers.

I agree with your take and voice my love of how Starscream is being handled, it's almost a blend of his G1 and Armada cahracters. He's still a self serving political minded opportunist but it's nice to show that he does have a conscience (even if he does not listen to it and even twists it).

But this is a Starscream who does know who he is. I need to ask BArber how much Game of Thrones has influenced this book (if it has at all). Because this Starscream reminds me a lot of Tyrion Lannister. How he approaches ruling Iacon as opposed to Bumblebee is very similar to how stark the differences were right away between Tyrion taking on the duties of The Hand as opposed to when Stark took on the duty.

I love that in politics there can be no honor if one wishes to rule effectively.

His co-opting of Rattrap and knowing his motivations is indeed a sign of a good leader. Starscream's viewpoint is a good one and I hope this all isn't simply smashed and swept away by Dark Cybertron. I would love to see more of Screamers trying to run a population.

Rattrap has shades of the beast wars character, but he also has a lot of animated battletrap. I'm happy he is stinky as that reminded me of one of my favorite lines from beast wars.

I love Starscream's comments about Scoop's Motivation. Pretty much how I react to people like that.

I'm hopeful that Rattrap's appearance means we're getting a toy.

Outside of disliking the further mixing of Beast Wars generation with Great War generation I enjoyed this issue. And hey no naration.

Starscream is growing on me as a character, but the NAILS continual "Fix our problems in the literal next 5 minutes or we'll find a new leader' continues to annoy!

Good issue. I like Barber's Starscream quite a bit, so seeing him use his talents in deception and manipulation heee and having them work is good fun. I'm rooting for him to pull through during Dark Cybertron.

(still more excited for the Soundwave issues. Dude's been relegated to that minor major character role for too long)
