Great mini arc for things to come. Blaster and Soundwave's duel is coming. I like that Soundwave's plan included Scorpinok's tyranny. We really have a competition of Decepticon leaders here. Now the big fight will be between Galvatron and Blugeon. I cannot wait personally. I do like that Blaster is Soundwave's foil. Huffer got some love because in fact he is really strong. Sucks that Silverbolt got slagged and didn't do anything, but other than being Superion's torso what do you expect of him? Some great moments all around. I am really looking forward to Rodimus Prime, a proper Rodimus Prime (we haven't had one in over 20 years). Cover B I think tipped the hat in revealing that he will come. I am psyched. Something happened to Spike and I do like that Earth and Nebulos' fates are a shared fate (as I always thought they should be reading the comics). I like that Spike got called out on his hatred. Everyone is worn out and every bit of help is appreciated. Optimus isn't really even directing the Autobots to help them but patching together two groups of people who need one another. I cannot wait for issue 0 and the Buster revelations given what has been said in this issue about the 'something little extra' that is driving Spike.
By any standard this is a damn good Transformers issue. It's rekindled my interest in this book and depending on reviews, spoilers etc. I might start following it again till the end. World-building, action, dialogue and characterization, it's all here. Marvel Blaster is back. Someone remembered that Huffer is a badass. And frankly I was inspired to look up Roadblock on EBay (turns out he has GPS, hisssssss). At any rate, I'm a sucker for Mayhems as well as Wreckers. Only complaint is how freaking slow is the Ark anyway?
Took 12 issues to get to where it resembled Marvel G1 lol Huffer smack down was nice as well as Blaster being back. Nice to have an issue with some characterisation out of all this. Last page is killer too wokka wokka
Well Furman toook his sweet time to get this thing to actaully resemble a Marvel issue! And it was damn good even by Marvel standars! The main comlaint I have is that I hate how Wildman draws Blaster. He always had such a unique looking head in the Marvel while he tends to draw him with this generic cartoon looking thing. Other than that yeah if every issue was like this RG1 would've been a lot better series that it is. If Furman keeps up like this till the end and me might just salvage it!
Furman's writing style has always been (Stories start slow for several issues then picks up momentum).
I have to say, after the Grim/Scorp redux this has been a great return to what I was hoping the book would be. I love how Huffer (a very overlooked character) got some shining moments. Furman returned to one of his biggest character consistencies which is how close the Decepticons get under Soundwave's leadership. Soundwave always shines under the man and he does so here. Call me crazy but I loved the use of the pretender animals (they get so overlooked). I will be surprised if we get Rodimus Prime. Since this isn't Marvel UK and Optimus still exists, I see Hot Rod being a leader in his own right but without a Prime attached to his name (this is supposed to lead into G2 after all). maybe that Rodimus Major that gets bandied about? All in all a great and welcomed return to form for Simon and I am pleased. Hopes it will keep up until the end.
I haven't read this issue yet, but am in the same boat. I dropped RG1 at #87, but with all the positive talk this latest issue has got, I think I may just pick it up and see where we go...
I have to admit - this issue was great. It had a self-contained story in the issue, but continued the main archs as well. And if the last panel of Bludgeon/Galvatron is Wildman's send-off until issue 100, it was one hell of a send-off.
The luck of having Soundwave telling his plan to someone who most likely already knew it just so Blaster could listen in was painfully dumb, but I can overlook it because it happens all the time in comics. Word choice is still bad, with no one having a real "voice", and something about Kup using the word "conflagration" bugs me. But... this is what Furman does. I wish he didn't, but it's how he writes. No getting around it. I can deal. My only real complaint is that Wildman can't really make up his mind on what Roadblock looks like. He first shows up in vehicle mode as a flying wedge thing, then later on as something pretty damn close to his pretender shell's alt mode, except for the fact that the center of the entire vehicle isn't centered with the rear of the vehicle and center fin. Then his pretender shell's face switches between human-like and blobby undetailed mess. Other than the Roadblock art problems, it was good. Pacing was fine, nothing felt rushed or cluttered. I'm hoping it stays this way, but I'm doubtful with how little time there is to wrap up all these plot threads. I'll try to stay optimistic. As others said, this actually felt like a classic Marvel issue. I just wish it didn't take so long to get that feeling back.
One can hope, Marvel Blaster is definitely my favorite interpretation of Blaster. Mix him with Buster's voice and you got someone who is a bonifide freedom fighter. His exaggeration does make sense given he was a loner most of the time and felt that the weight of Cybertron rested on his shoulders.
I likes this issue, and I'm glad that other people liked it too, I guess my only complaint was that we didn't see much of the other mayhe,s like Needlenose and Spinister, but since they are being featured anyway, I can deal with it. While I wasn't a fan of the Scorponok arc minus Crosshairs' badassery, I really like the way things are going now. I hope we see more stories like this coming up.
Took me a while to get around to reading it, but what a great issue. Really looking forward to the next one. Hoping for a big showdown between Ultra Magnus and Galvatron. I loved Roadblock getting some action in this one. I'm still hoping that Furman can cram in more characters that never had much fiction behind them. Also, there's a big green guy called Fang, arguing with Kup. I guess it's supposed to be the same Fang from "Target: 2006", or at least an homage. He looks different though. No spikes and looks like he turns into some wheeled vehicle.
