The dialogue part is interesting. I'm guessing it'll refer to either Drift or Chromedome, don't see that applying to someone like Brainstorm.
I think the smart money is on one of those two. I am racking my brain for who the hell else it could be. Would he give us such an obvious piece of dialogue?
if the measure of a good comic is how much i want to read forthcoming issues, then this thing takes the cake.
I've been suspecting that since something Roberts said a while back, that he felt one character he planned to do one thing wouldn't do that anymore. I bet that's Spoiler Cyclonus killing Whirl
The Cash song makes this sound like this episode is going to be rather nasty in terms of collateral damage. Overlord is going to wreck everyone, and I think the person being referred to is Chromedome, and I suspect the person who says it is Rewind. I'm going to read this issue to that Cash song, because, really. It's very, very fitting for a reckoning, and /that/ is what is going to occur here.
I'll write this ambiguously so as not to compromise your spoiler cover. The grudge/friction between the two characters may lead one to rescue the other from danger. A bit ironic maybe, but it reminds me of The Guns of Navarone. Or, more pertinently for the fan community, the TF: Prime episode where Bulkhead Rescues Breakdown from MECH; 'No rescue, no revenge.'. With the two characters you mention, maybe the threat and distrust will simmer on a while longer, or they could gain respect for each other from this threat... If they both survive. This bring me to another point. Others have suggested that these two should not die because the grudge gives the story tension and builds the characters. By the time the main story in LSOTW took place, Guzzle had a pretty serious bone to pick with Kup and yet both survived deadly peril from no less than the same antagonist we see here; Overlord. Just to be clear, I'd be a fool to call out Roberts for reusing Overlord. That's not what I'm doing; I knew that could happen since he and Roche used LSOTW to give him character, a reputation and of course let him live. I really like what the team's done so far in the two parallel comics and however they push our collective buttons here and after I will probably say 'well played'. What I am saying to the fans who mentioned fatalities on previous threads is, should a (developing) tension/animosity between two characters make them immune from a peril that will or could cost at least one other character their lives?
Cyclonus and Whirl are both colorful and well-written. I think they survive. Plus, I gotta give Whirl the advantage in a fight. Might be wishful thinking.
Should I get tissues ready to prepare weeping for Chromedome. I wonder how the Necrobot will find their corpses. Perhaps the Lost Light crashes?
Maybe, just maybe, the Necrobot was actually erasing names from the list (i.e. Flywheels was dead and Chromedome and co. were still alive), not adding the names of the deceased. Doesn't explain why the list wasn't in any obvious order, and I highly doubt I'm right, but who knows?
We still don't know that *that* was the necrobot. Seems a little to obvious, I'm expecting it to be some form of mis-direction, perhaps its an institute bot going round trying to undo Shadowplayed people, perhaps its one of the legislators working through a list of threats. Who knows, it could be anyone, but It seems a little too convenient and un Robertslike for it to actually be the necrobot sorting out a list of corpses.
All I know is that I'm looking forward to this a lot. And, I'll be really surprised if Drift lives through this one. It seems like there should be some karmic cost for being part of bringing Overlord on the ship and concealing him from the crew.
Judging by the cover for #16, and the fact that he isn't on anymore covers, he might not make it. And we'll actually feel bad for it. Bravo, Roberts!
Which is really saying something considering how people just hated Drift when he was first introduced so long ago and probably wouldn't have minded him getting offed.
Oh my god no I'm gonna cry. Thank god there's no school and I won't have to explain to my friends that I'm grief stricken over robots. (Though it wouldn't be the first time.)
Proof that Roberts is The Man who writers Transformers. Taking characters that are polarizing (Rodimus, Drift) or not well-known and used (Whirl, Swerve, Chromedome, Brainstorm) and making them the guys you want to follow. He's my writing idol. I want to have my Transformers stories follow his method.
Indeed Roberts writing has breathed new life into the transformers universe. Hasbro should weave their toy marketing behind his stories. Roberts is able to make filler background characters shine in a spotlight and make you love them almost more then the icons we grew up with!
