To go in a parallel topic, I'm not sure I like Shockwave having been a senator. That steps on Ratbats toes. I mean now the Cons have two former senators in their party.

To be fair I don't think Shockwave was ever that much into the whole Decepticon thing.

Shockwave probably joined them because of their resourses and I'm sure he had some kind of plan all along being Jiaxus' studnet and all that jazz.

Yeah, as stated above I think Shockwave could care less about the Decepticons. He has the ambiguity, resources, and outlet for his "sciences". Also, Ratbat is pretty dead so he's not going to feel anyone stepping on his toes.

Do we know how many Cybertronians made up the pre-war Senate? For all we know it could have included hundreds or thousands. It makes perfect sense that more than one of them would have joined up with Megatron's side. Just because they were Senator's doesn't neccesarily mean that they believe in all of what the Senate stood for.

Cons have a lot of Senate influenced people in their ranks, to be honest. Shockwave, Ratbat, Soundwave [he was a special agent of a Senator], Blitzwing [Tritorian guard], Macabre and probably some more I can't recall right now.

Also, it seems that Ratbat was forced into the Decepticons while it appears Shockwave did it on his own accord. There were also two more Senators affiliated with cons in the shadowplay saga.

Kind of funny how the leader of a faction against the senate recruits most of the thugs and upper crust OF the senate.

Starscream was also a political delegate, at least during Zeta's reign.

I mean it makes Ratbat's biggest character aspect less unique. That doesn't sit well with me. I don't hate it but it just doesn't it right if Shockwave is also a senator.

I get the impression there are like 20-40.

^ Well for one thing, Shockwave's tenure as a Senator almost certainly ended when he was altered into the character WE think of as Shockwave.

For another, Ratbat is still very unique and the gem of that uniqueness predates any reference to him as a Senator. He's a corrupt pedant.
