Okay Shadowplay was awesome, but I can see how eventually Roberts could make a third installment in order to answer the big question unanswered from this story arc. Who crreated the fake matrix, and why? We know that the senate didn't, as they tried to get unblocked access to it in order to find out its origins, and Sentinel tried to hook in to its wisdom, only to fail. Therefore it seems to me that the only ones who could have done this would be its guardians the Primal Vanguard. My last thread on the vanguard got no responses at all, but i'm gonna make one again, because this is a interesting idea to me. For wht reasons would they make a fake matrix? There are 2 possibilities in my mind. 1. To Justify their continued existence. Someone in the Vanguard bungled things, and the matrix was lost. The Vanguard was a hugely well known organization (as we saw in Ironfist), and to admitt hey screwed up like this would be a serious blow to them and there supporters, especially in a time with the Senate acting as they were. 2. They voluntarily hid it. The senate was hysterically corrupt, and probably hated the idea that an group they didn't directly control had unfettered access to the Matrix. So the Phobos controversy was manufactured to give the Guard's agents proper cover in order to move the Matrix to a place the Senate would never think to look. It seems to me that with the Matrix connection to the Guilding Hand, the Vanguard were more a religious order than government one, and you can guess how the Senate felt about that. I'm almost leaning towards the second as I like the idea that someone else was working against the Senate in those days, though 1 could be viable as well. Wht do you guys think?
I would go with #2 Remember how Orion found the matrix in Autocracy? It called out to him from what appeared to be a set of catacombs. Im not 100% on this. I need to pull up my digital comic on this and confirm. Anycase, the matrix was in an obscure location that, until evidence proves otherwise, appears to have been deliberate.
I would go with #2 as well, the question would be, when was it hidden and who hid it? Could be another awesome flashback story in the future!!
what I don't get it the actual users, Nominus had to know it was a fake he carried.....unless he wasn't under the Senates heel so thats why they killed him.....and replaced him with sentinal & Zeta, 'Primes' they could control.
Wait, are we talking about the fake Matrix that was a bomb or the one in possession of Ironfist? The bomb one: part of a scheme by the Senate, or at least the biggest players in it (Sentinel & friends) to give them an excuse to openly wage war on the Decepticons and keep the population in clampdown. The other fake one: I think it's quite common that important artifacts are replicated for the sake of memorabilia. Am I missing something here? Wow, really? In what way? You didn't understand what was happening or did you find what was happening unbelievable? I think it was pretty straightforward.
We're talking about the one in Nominus chest. The Senate turned it into a bomb, but did not create it. It was implied that the Senate didn't know the Matrix in Nominus's chest was a fake until Sentinel tried to hook into it. My reading was that before the war, the one who carried the title of Prime was the leader of the Vanguard, and not really a major political figure in the Senate,So it's not out of the question that Nominus knew his matix was a fake and was in on the plot to hide it. Perhaps he was a better guy than we've been lead to believe?
Could be a mix of both. The matrix is a powerful thing as we know. Even without it's energy it still holds secrets and knowledge. I could see them hiding it, even if just temporarily, but it being stolen and/or lost. Thus they make the fake one to keep control over who is Prime. Honestly, with how corrupt pre-war Cyberton was, you wonder if the war even made things that much worse?
My running theory is that Nova Prime created it as part of his (successful) plan to take power by claiming to be a true Prime (Omega called him a "false Prime" in the RID annual), and that the real Matrix was hidden in the Undergrid by the Knights of Cyberron until Optimus found it in "Autocracy".
My theory was that this fake matrix was created to avoid mass religious panic and confusion after Nova Prime was "lost" in the dead universe, the powers that be in the council created a Fake-trix to carry on the lineage. Although Chris McFeely is probably right.
Did he call him a "false Prime" or did he say that the title was meaningless? Those could mean very different things.
He called him a "false Prime". In the same month when, in another issue, the same author had another character refer to Optimus as "the one true Matrix bearer". In the same month as we learned that at least one former Matrix holder carried a fake. Seems all too concurrent to be coincidental to me!
Nova seemed to be a "fake" one, descendant of Primus, will of Primus and whatnot. Nominus either made up an excuse for a fake matrix to claim the title of Prime, or was actually given the fake matrix Nova must have carried around to influence crowds.
Was Nova that power hungry, or did he do all this because the Civil war was just that bad? It's implied that this war may have been worse than the Autobot/decepticon one, if it could only end at the hand of the Prime.
Not possible. The current war was 4 plus million years (out of the entire 12 million history of their race) and took a population that was in the millions to the few thousands. Sentinel was probably the worst since things like the Institute, the corruption and the empurata flourished under him.
I think that Nova was a bit of both. At first he truly wanted peace but power corrupted him at the end. The whole Senate corruption and Empurata and whatnot were at play before Sentinel rose to power, and by M:O he seemed to have grown tired of the Senate's manipulation.
