Yes, in his world, the Purple Generic seekers are actually more important characters than either Swerve or Tailgate as Swerve didn't show up until after the Movie and Tailgate never featured in the G1 cartoon at all! Characterless generic model re-uses for the win!
At first I laughed because I thought you were being sarcastic or ironic....and then I remembered who was posting. Personal preferences over character spotlights aside, Thundercracker is one of the few (only?) good things to come out of Mike Costa's run, so someone picking up on him is great news to me, since he got lost in the shuffle. Heheheh. Yup.
This is awesome news, I missed the boat on the Spotlights and have had to pick them up as TPB's, can't wait to get some more one-off issues. EDIT: So it's looking like one in December and one in January when I need to keep an eye on solicitations.
Glad they're doing a Spotlight for Thundercracker, but I really wish it would be taking place now rather than in the past. Also hoping that he appears in one of the main titles soon. Preferably before this comes out.
Seeing as how the Orion Pax spotlight also takes place in the past, I have a feeling all of the new Spotlights are going to.
Spotlights were part of the reason why I started picking up IDW's comics anyway. I grabbed a couple off what I thought to be off-shoots before going back and getting the -ation series in TPB back in the summer of 2008. Man, what a year for me. Just as I'm graduating college, I come full circle to mature literature of what I loved as a kid. =)
I like his art but I don't like his decisions. He wanted to have Bumblebee back in his 1984 body for the Bumblebee mini-series even when it didn't make sense in the overall continuity. And IDW let him. Its like someone in Marvel today wanting to draw Peter Parker in the Scarlet Spider costume when he's supposed to be in his regular costume and has no reason to be in the Scarlet Spider costume. And with Transformers, its not the simple case of just putting on a different set of clothing, their appearance is their actual bodies.
Wasn't Bee a VW Beetle up until he was repaired to look more like the movie model? But you're right, IIRC some of the characters' forms conflicted with the general ongoing... Blurr is one that I think I remember.
Saying Blurr, I felt he was out of character on that miniseries. (He was speaking in G1 cartoon style, unlike other issues of IDW continuity) But Barber is writing it this time, so I'm not worried with the story.
I agree completely! The Thundercracker spotlight should be directly followed up with the Generic Seeker spotlight. Every original Decepticon has had time to shine in IDW, even Reflector. But the Generic Seekers who made up most of the Decepticon army have been completely ignored by IDW until now... this is a grievous oversight that I'm happy to see IDW taking steps to rectify.
Yeah, the Generic Seekers are pretty much the most important TF characters ever. IDW has been foolish to not take advantage of their greatness. It's all Michael Bay's fault.
No I blame IDW, generic troops serve a purpose. Autobots like Cliffjumper defeating larger opponents such as a generic Decepticon jet fighter gives a chance for CJ to show off his abilities. A Decepticon like Skywarp being able to defeat such a capable warrior as Cliffjumper establishes any appearance by Megatron's elite as a credible and serious threat. This stacks the deck against the Autobots while not making them or the fan favorite Decepticon characters look weak. Decepticon generic seekers should wield slightly less skill than the elite troops and exhibit some personality to avoid repeating the weaknesses of TF Prime, where the Autobots are Gods and the Vehicons are all composed of tinfoil and scotch tape.
Comic was put up on Comixology prematurely allowing some of us to buy it if we were quick enough before they removed it. Discuss it if you managed to get it.
I...I don't get it. What the heck are the Inceticons doing on a war-torn Cybertron? I mean...I like animal modes but it's kind of a wtf?
