Hey so while I'm not a hard core gobot fan I think they are kind of meat and I just had an idea. Right now in IDW they are reuniting the 13 colonies of cybertronians. Now to my knowledge not all 13 have been accounted for, so I have an idea. What if they make the go ots cybertronian and their own colony on their Titan gobotron? They can have their own civil war going on and all! I mean I think it would be a cool and fun way to bring back the gobots. Plus Hasbro could make dat money selling gobots. I don't, what do you guys think? Is this a cool and fun idea? Have your own fun ideas for this kind of story? Or do you think this is stupid and the gobots should stay dead?

The Gobots probably are one of the 13 colonies, so it would hurt if they did appear in the future.

Would work for Quintus Prime; he could have created them to see what would happen if organic brains were bonded to mechanical bodies and sparks

Not really interested in incorporating Gobots (or GI Joe or MASK or...)

The only way things work for me when you combine them is to let each thing be what it is. If you have to alter the core concept, then there's no point, because you're not really combining the actual thing.

The Transformers are sentient (ostensibly sentient, anyway) robots. Cool.

I can understand people not really familiar with the franchise outside of the similar toyline thinking the GoBots are the same deal. But they aren't. The GoBots were human-like aliens who turned themselves into cyborgs in order to survive a cataclysm.

That's totally different. If you turn them into plain sentient robots, then they aren't the GoBots anymore. Just a series of name-slaps.

That's a good point, but I think the other quote I showed does it well. From my understanding they never clarify who starts the cyborg process, so you could have them be a colonies but not one of cybertronians? Maybe they're bodies are the long dead bodies of an extinct colony? Could that work? I'm admittedly no gobot expert but I understand the desire to have your loved franchise done right and not be a name slap.

We already have them in Megatron: Origins.

As long as the story surrounding them is well-written, I don't see why not. I would also like to see some more of the A/E/C designs incorporated into the IDW universe.

IDW Unicron can eat Gobotron first when he appears eventually.

I'm not sure how the rights for such a thing might work out, but I do know Hasbro doesn't own the rights to the GoBots' likenesses, so any toys based on the original characters would not be possible. And I'm guessing IDW wouldn't be able to get approval to use their likenesses in a Transformers comic.

    Why not?
While we're at it let's add Tom & Jerry, Mister Rogers, The Wizard of Oz, and Ronald McDonald.

They could just alter the designs to be distinct from the Machine Robo figures while still looking like the GoBot characters. Maybe?

We already have straight up homage and even redesigns for guys like Cy-Kill and Leader 1 already hanging around the franchise as it is for bit parts. If anything NOT using them in more direct or prominent ways is an insult to what Hasbro essentially owns. Even if they aren't cyborgs as the original made them it still would be fun to have remade designs and figures based off them to include as new Transformers added to their paralleled factions with new stories to tell and redefine them for new audiences.

The same goes for others connected to Transformers in a loosely defined sense or term.

You know, I always thought Gorlam Prime was a backdoor "in" for the Gobots, if IDW ever wanted to go that route.

Gorlam Prime was a planet of organics...and then their whole planet became cyborgs...and then they started calling it Cybertron.

AND WE NEVER SAW It AGAIN.

It would be the easiest thing to bring the Gobots into the fold. Just have some characters revisit Gorlam Prime. Maybe the new cyborg-people are starting to wage a war. The IDW series has continually found new and creative ways to introduce characters from other continuities into the story.

    Why not the Gobots?

It'd be a bit tricky, what with the main villain being dead and all.

Yes, because it's not like the IDW verse has any contradictions at all. Not contradicting appearances of Elita-1 perhaps? Or maybe two completely contradicting (but completely canon due the impact there respective stories have on recent IDW events) origins for the dinobots?
