I take it you missed out on all the stuff about 'Revolution'. Transformers and MTMTE are being renumbered after each title's issue #57 to go along with IDW's shared-universe thing with their Hasbro properties that kicks off in September. They've stressed that it's not a reboot or relaunch, and post-revolution each book will go back to doing their own thing, just it all takes place in the same world.
You're right, it is. But seeing how comic companies do this all the time - as well as the obligatory, less than stellar 'events', you're better off not caring about it too much. It's better for your health.
It's just renumbering for marketing purposes. Might be annoying but I have faith in Hasbro to continue to be a good partner with IDW. The crossovers and marketing help IDW as much as they do for Hasbro. And despite fan protests, renumbering and events raise interest in the books-- if it weren't the case, they wouldn't do them.
Roberts is discussing on Twitter now, starting here: https://twitter.com/jroberts332/status/745696639269081088
Roberts on Twitter just reiterated that the re-numbering is just that. A re-numbering. A jumping on point. New #1 is the start of Season 3.
Does it really? For marvel they generate sales on new number 1's through variants and marketing gimmicks. Like, order so much of this comic to match sales of another unrelated title and get this or that It's all marketing. The sales numbers always settle rightback to where they where before the relaunch. Speculators drive relaunchs. And ain't nobody speculating on the value of transformers comics. Get ready for a hasbro fisting around issue 7...gonna get all those other idw properties shoved right in.......right after the last trade come out with what would hav been the wrap up of Roberts story. God bless barber on the tap dance job he has done with rid Have faith in hasbro.... Why? Only reason the comics have been good is the limited hasbro involvement. That's changing saddly
He said. This is the natural end of the story of the he has been telling for almost 60 issues..... But this is a good jumping on point!? Does that make sense?
What're you talking about? Roberts said on Twitter that MTMTE is continuing. The numbering will change, but the story is continuing. He said they are on track with their vision—a beginning, middle, and end.
Yes. There are a number of background mysteries and developments that have come to fruition so those who start reading at the beginning of season 3 can jump on board without quite as much continuity baggage. They can read the synopsis of the basic sketch of the plot and go from there.
To be honest, I don't get it. Back in the day, when I started collecting comics, it was around Batman #426, and Superman #470. For me, it didn't matter, what number the issues had, it`s the stories that made me buy the comics. Furthermore: In my opinion, a higher number is actually better, since it shows, that the comic has been around for a certain amount of time, and therefore is an indication, that it is at least good enough to run for that time without being cancelled, or rebooted/restarted/renumbered.
Not for a loooong while at least, maybe its part of a cunning plan to make MTMTE last longer?! (I wish) The ever distant and almost mythical #100.
MAYO REPORT: Analyzing the Marvel NOW! Relaunches | Comic Book Resources I highly recommend this article on marvels relaunch strategy. It outlines the effects. His general thesis is publishers should concentrate on selling strong consistent seriel story telling instead of artificial numbers I don't blame idw for trying to copy marvels success with the tactic. It would of been smarter if they'd gone to the season model sooner as the market is shifting it seems as marvel all now all new all different is rubbing people the wrong way and Dc's rebirth with legacy numbers seems to be a big success. But we won't have solid numbers on that till.... Well about September
Yes, you are right, its marketing to generate sales. Obviously its working, otherwise why does the pattern get repeated? Getting upset about marketing makes as much sense as getting upset about ads on TV-- it happens for a reason. And the sky is not falling. But feel free to run around and lose your mind thinking that Hasbro is going to ruin the comics. I get why folks don't like renumbering. I don't like it either. But at the end of the day its just a cosmetic issue. Volume 2 of MTMTE (or whatever its called) is a continuation of volume 1. Of course you don't have to believe Roberts who made that statement. But doing that might suggest you have paranoid delusions that Hasbro is out to get you.
I'm far from loosing my mind. Interesting how people marginalize others opinions by questioning their sanity. Sorry if my posts come across as such. I really enjoy what idw has been doing. I just think I see the writing on the wall. I also don't think just because it worked for marvel it will work for idw. That's a line wide assumption Hasbro seems to be making from movies to comics. Imitation is the highest form of compliment I suppose The following is a rhetorical questions asked out of logic. Not loosing my head to insanity. If given the choice.... Does it sound like the creative people on the book would like to renumber or keep the ongoing high issue numbers they have earned? As a consumer of this media, would you prefer the creatives control things more or the marketing department of the ip holder, not even the marketing dept of the publisher.
