WOW! This might be one of the biggest wastes of time I've read in a while.

The whole "What if Optimus Prime would have never died?" reality turns out to be not as interesting as I was imagining. Things are still basically the same, Optimus doesn't change his role as the leader nor his characterization in the slightlest, this doesn't affect him at all as a character. Hell, not even his whole survival affects the plot due that he's barely relevant here. Hot Rod is the one who does most of the stuff.

Speaking of Hot Rod, the writer managed to make that little moment where he accidently lets Megatron kill Optimus in the movie (which is still debatable) into his whole characterization due that he keeps screwing things up and kills everyone around him and he only does a good thing when he sacrifices himself to kill Unicron.

Total missed opportunity to explore new facets of the characters and consequences. This is still pretty much the movie's plot with just a few changes here and there.

Yeah, this wasn't exactly what I was expecting either. Disappointing really.

Clearly the writter has been waiting 30 years for the occasion to bash and kill Hot Rod (and to allow Starscream to finish his coronation speech.)

So, basically, I can save by not purchasing this one? Nothing's really lost?

I thought it was a cute story, but it definitely felt lacking.

Isn't the writer someone who worked on Agent Carter?

Ultra Magnus seemed really out of character the whole time. Aside from getting more Starscream, there didn't seem to be much point to anything. About the only new thing Optimus got to do was own some Quintessons.

I don't think Magnus being critical (even the g1 version) is outside the realm of his character, though.

Personally, I really enjoyed this, it felt like good old fashioned G1. It also felt like the old "What-if" series from Marvel. This was a fun self contained story that isn't meant to mean anything. It's just meant to be a fun ride. That's it. I think it delivered on that.

The art was really fun as well. Very reminiscent of the old days. I also like the silly upgrade that Megascream got. The double fusion cannons on his arms were silly/fun.

I usually find the TFW massive to be ridiculously harsh on the comics of late and often find the complaints overstated and/or mystifying.

This is not one of those times. This was the biggest waste of space garbage pile of an issue I have read in years. Like, seriously, this is Grade AAA+, S-Rank trash. Don't waste your time, don't even bother reading it in the store then putting it back on the shelf, you are missing nothing.

I was all up for an recurring Elseworlds-style series but now, after that? Forget it. Awful.

I have to agree with the sentiment in this thread... that was a massive waste of time. Complete rehash of the movie, with Prime in all the key bits, more or less the exact same story beats, and a few pointless deaths.

S'a bloody shame, too, 'cos the Ghostbusters Deviations comic was (I thought) genius.

The implication at the end being there's no way to stop the Hate Plague, now.

Ok well that sucked. It was a little bit amusing to see every Autobot basically hate on Hot Rod in every scene (which was pretty out of character) .

All I could think of at the end was "what was the point of this"? It never really went in a new direction, it just skimmed the movie plot making superficial changes that didn't change the outcome one iota. Either make it dark or make it triumphant, don't make it boring!

Boy, that is just terrible. Like, I think it might be on the level of The Beast Within. I hate that I spent money on this thing.

Can someone at least post a pic of the stupid combiner?

And... I may not get this if it's that terrible. Not saying I could write better (as to be honest my Transformers writings have been lacking of late) but it seems to have dropped the ball.

Wow. You didn't like that? Man... it's weird being in the minority with this one. I really liked this issue. It was simple and fun.

Well, this was a steaming pile. These weren't even the same characters from the Movie.

I wish I could get my money back on this one.

This was awful. Clearly written by someone with a childish long-stewing hatred for Hot Rod and the whole story just labors under the weight of it. Interesting concept, but one of the worst TF books I've read.
