With all you guys on this one. I haven't read a lot of IDW but the notion of Megatron being an Autobot and not changing yet is very, very interesting. Of course the possibility for him turning back into a Decepticon is there. However, I think it's generally safe to say based on feedback, if he does go down the big bad route again, it won't be generally welcome.

Agreed, Megs makes for a much more interesting character as an Autobot/chasing redemption.

Buuut we know he'll go backwards eventually. The fiction isn't allowed to stray from the status quo for too long (face it, Bumblebee's already slowly coming back).

I could see him leaving the Autobots after killing his metaphorical demons (DJD) and the events of 'All Hail Optimus' - Prime's heading towards being a (well meaning) oppressive authority by the looks of things..... exactly what set Megatron to tear down everything before the war.

Soundwave and his bunch could quite easily slot back in with a more humble Megatron by this point; forming a splinter 'Con army as a way to stop Optimus heading further down that road. Gives you a 3-way tussle between Optimus[good], Megs[bad things for good intentions] & Galvy[bad].

That's the only way I could see them trying it anytime soon.

As a neutral Transformer? Maybe. As a Decepticon? No. I don't want all of the awesome character development undone, and I think it's good having some other guys as the top Cons.

agreed. TBH Megatron wasn't really relevant in most of IDW's run he usually would be dead or in stasis for a long time.

    Beast Megatron would be amazing.

    No..
    I dont want him to,
For the first time in the history of this Franchise the main villain has became a leading good guy,So why bring back the old Megatron?

Who wouldnt wanna see a mass murderer-turned-good guy who wants to make a revolutionary change in his life and make amends for his crimes?

When this mass-murderer should be executed for his sins...

Frankly, having Megatron dead would be preferable to having him going supervillain again.

Yes. Character development, classic redemption story arcs, road-to-Damascus epiphanies aside eventually the Heavy Hand of Hasbro will want Him back. And you know what that means.....

I think that´s the more likely thing to happen.

They have the movies and the tv shows for that.

I think that at some point in the future Megatron will be returned to status quo and IMHO even granting him a heroic death on his way to redemption would be less trite and more preferable than this.
Same as I'm mildly afraid that at some point Marvel will return Magneto to again being a villain.

I think that since Megatron is pretty much dead in the Movieverse, and with those being the primary cash cow for Hasbro at the moment, there won´t be any major changes to Autobot Megatron.

The moment the movies tank and reboot happens, then I will worry.

We all know Megatron will become a Decepticon again, even though most of us don't want that.

It is interesting to see how they've moved from Megatron as the big bad in recent other fiction. The movies have an updated Megatron calling himself Galvatron and the RID cartoon has... someone else. I don't know I haven't been watching but I know it's not Megatron.

The development on IDW Megatron under Roberts has been fascinating. It'll be sad when marketing wants the big threat again. I'd personally prefer elevating some of the other threats again. Galvatron and Tarn are doing wonderful things right now. We have a ton of Decepticon leaders we haven't seen much of that could really step up.

Seeing Megatron get the 'redemption arc' and seeing how for the first time I actually really like Megatron's character (Ok that's a lie I loved TFA Megatron XD) I actually wish Robert's got to work with Starscream and maybe even Soundwave (Though I haven't gotten past RiD Volume 6 so I could be missing some)

I'd hate to see him go bad again. It will feel like this entire arc was wasted.

I agree, i'd rather he dies than ever become the Decepticon leader again.

The thing is though, is Megatron really the "good guy"? Beside his conversation with Ravage he's pretty much surrounded by people who wouldn't hesitate to blow his head off if he does the wrong thing. As much as we all hate Getaway nowadays, it's honestly hard for me not to see his logic. I don't think he'll be a Decepticon again, but he may end up being something else besides an Autobot in the end.

I think I wouldn't mind him becoming Decepticon leader AS LONG AS it fits in with his current development. So instead of being "evil" again, he works at rehabilitating other Decepticons, or simply Decepticons who think like him and don't have a place for themselves. His being leader could be him being charged with overseeing Decepticon refugees, maybe in co-operation with the Autobots and Starscream. Megatron being a political figure on Cybertron could be huge. Him using his charisma, and the duplicitous nature still resting inside of him, to pass certain laws that would ultimately be better for the people, and perhaps closer to his original ideals in subtler, but perhaps more beneficial ways.

If he absolutely HAD to go back to being a Decepticon, that's what I'd do.

At some point Megatron will likely get corupted by Unicron, or other beings and go back to what he does best.

See, I don't see Megatron going back because of Unicorn corruption. But more from watching Prime conquer a planet like Earth and Megatron realizing that the most noble Autobot in existence, the one whom he is trying to show more than any other person in the universe that he can change, is just as "evil" as he is. And just may be better at conquering a planet than he, Megatron, ever was. I could see this hypocrisy making him snap and Megatron wanting to return to the Deceptions to lead them against the world conquering Optimus Prime, with a raw hatred for his enemy, born of disappointment and feelings of betrayal, he hadn't felt in a long time.
